Maybe I should try a meta spellcaster build, something that can do red maps and as many map mods as possible (I hate rerolling maps unless I do it for an challenge or something). With VP getting ripd, where does that put me? Firestorm totems? Frostbolt?
With high block chance you don't need instant leech.

Honestly almost all spells can reach red maps with a 6 link and some fitting average gear. In general spells arent as good tho as projectiles or some Melee builds.(aside from boring BV maybe) (totems definetely still strong, Frostbolt/Freezing Pulse or Dark Pact totems propably at the top end for totems)
Miner with spells like Glacial Cascade is propably strongest spell dmg wise and clearwise - still being a Miner tho. Selfcast gets a bit more difficult but lotsa decent options. (example ED/Contagion/Blight combo or Scorching Ray
Even Whispering Ice with *Blizzard* still kinda works, altho not everyone likes the playstyle)

Rotp nerf seems tough, 3% lower max res means need to dig up 4% extra life regen from somewhere.
Scorching Ray Trickster is a super safe and popular starter still I believe.
Don't recommend elementalist (for any build except golemancer which can't even cheese shaper anymore) but trickster/inquisitor should both function quite fine.
It's unclear if this invictus solaris shield will have good RF applications, if nothing else though it offers an easy +2 gems item which makes it much easier to get high-level auras (especially purities) fairly early in the league although it might only drop from a specific unique map so who knows.

7 added cold dmg per 10 dex on a weapon. How have I seen that before. Probably end up as last time too, aka absolutely broken.
You need to GMP Unearth instead of Pierce, so that's basically a 60% more multiplier for EK. And I'm not sure the max range of Unearth is that far compared to a faster EK. Then EK gets that sweet, sweet nova jewel...
There might be a build where you clear trash with Unearth, and only pull volatile dead for rares. It could probably do all content decently. Or some sort of EK/Unearth build, where Unearth is your single target. Unearth is only ~20% stronger than EK, but with a rare 6L Helmet, who knows...
Yeah unearth has a pretty lackadaisical projectile speed, needs GMP, and the targetting is awkward for a clear skill (have to basically aim offscreen in order to abuse the free pierce since it ends wherever you click. Rory talked about something to make it more useable as a clear skill (threshold jewel i think?) that was in development but not in time for 3.1 I believe, so no joy there.
Volatile Dead + Cascade really does seem like a build-your-own vaal detonate dead with upside though.
I feel like useable "rare 6l" items are going to be incredibly expensive in general, but I guess we could see Kaoms heart value going up in response
Made a PoB hierophant build with EK totems and self-cast Unearth in 6L Helmet. Comes out to ~100k dps per totem, 400k+ dps self cast. Certainly decent numbers and pretty safe, but there's not much potential to scale past that.
I really hope someone gets Volatile Dead to work. Skill looks really fun. But combo skills are so clunky...
Also, if I get this right, Spell Cascade with Volatile Dead would still only consume 3 corpses, but you'd get 9 fireballs which can all hit the same target. So you can get 10 corpses for 1 spell echo/GMP Unearth, then 3 volatile dead casts for 27 fireballs.
Did anyone come up with a decent Detonate Dead build? I feel like that you are kind of forced to go crit (Inquisitor or Scion?) since elementalist ascendancy is so meh atm. But then you value generic crit nodes above spell crit nodes and I don't think I can scale that to a reasonable level. But then I might just as well play flameblast dual totems or sth along those lines.... Any ideas?
Btw can I clarify on the mechanics of Scorching Ray ? Once we reach 8 stacks, can just quickly touch the target again after couple of seconds to refresh the debuff right ? The debuff will maintain the 8 stack minus resist and dmg level as long as the debuff get refresh in time?

Spell Cascade definitely copies the spell so you can consume 9 corpses, and make 9 fireballs.
You only get one fireball per corpse, and you get up to 3 corpses per cast, but cascade gives you 3 casts per use.

Seems correct, the stacks only last 1.5s though so you have to keep recasting it pretty often. That's why it was such a good CWC skill though, since you basically ahve to keep channelling it with only a small break allowed to keep your damage up but cast speed doesn't really improve your DPS.
In the video, they use spell cascade with Detonate Dead, and it consumes only one corpse for 3 explosions, but the way Volatile Dead is worded, consuming corpses is indeed part of the effect, so you're probably right.
Such a clunky spell.. spell echo + cascade consumes 18 corpses.. wtb Vaal Desecrate.
Also I'm pretty sure the detonate dead video does show it consuming 3 corpses it's just a bit hard to tell due to the setup. I'm very sure the volatile dead video shows each circle consuming 3 corpses for 9 corpses total (plus echo ofc). Still, I think that optimally you won't end up using echo for volatile dead unless you are necromancer and have the +2 corpses per desecrate ascendancy passive
People seem to be happy with the DD value. We'll see how good it will turn out!
Yep gonna do Lightning Tendrils build as league starter (cast while channel with arc for clear and single target swapping 2 gems) already did a build with old values and got to 600-700k dps with affordable gear, not counting the *stronger pulse* and bonus dmg the new version adds. Should be fun to try out :D
Alright guys I think I've settled on my hilariously impractical meme build for the league: Heartbound Loop + Mon'tregul's Grasp CwDT Corpse Exploder Scion.
Still haven't settled on a first build that will actually work, though. GC mines, maybe? Maybe chaos conversion GC mines?

My PoB testing also got me to 700k values with 3.0 LT and without using Spell Echo. With this buff DPS should go to near 800k.
I also plan to test CwC version but for boss battles only swap one gem (I would use Arc or Shock Nova for mapping and swap to Flame Surge for bosses). Mantra of Flames jewel is fairly cheap and lets your LT ignite and Flame Surge finish the job. With Inquisitor their resistance will be 0 for both elements.
And with 2x Void Battery DPS for LT goes over 1 million.
