Hey guys,
i would like to hear your opinion about patches which affect gameplay of SC 2. Do you think that more balance patches would help the game. I think many people left the game because SC 2 doesnt get enough balance patches.
It is fustrating to see other games patched rugularly everey month like Lol or heroes. And i know that RTS games are harder to balanbce but it is not good for the game to do nothing. I mean we have some gameplay issues which are really fustrating to play against.
- 3 Rax reaper allin against Zerg and Terran.
- Tier 3 Sky armys are way to strong especially for Terran (mass Raven) and Protoss (masss carrier and Tempests)
- It is really fustrating to play against Adepts. At least why cant they have a higer cooldown on their shades? Blizzard promissed to make mech viable with the last big balance patch after Blizzcon. They buffed swarmhosts so hard that you can not really play mech against a Zerg who knows what he is doing.....
Some more regulary patches would really help the game. I mean look this air vs air battles in lategame are really boring to watch in PvP for example. It is not rocket science to fix some issues of the gameplay of SC 2. What do you think?

Isnt really a thing since cyclone change.

Scout.

So, soO dont know what he is doing ?

Rofl, i hope you are joking, RTS are like board games when MOBAs are mobile games.

Community is weird because it used to be the case that everybody said: "Wait for the meta to settle... in Broodwar even years after the latest patch new strategies are found! We just balance via maps!" and now here we are again with the other part of the community screaming loud for nerfs and buffs.
You can't make everyone happy. Eventually solutions will be found... maybe <_<

Another day, another "mech not viable" thread.

Well the largest most popular games get patched frequently. Changing things around is good in itself since playing becomes less repetitive and more fun.
The only downside is that it forces more adaption from pro players and may screw up balance more. But is better to have a popular game that is fun for normal ladder players than something that is perfectly balanced for the top 0.01%.
Heroes of the Storm managed to increase its viewers by doing lots of patches. Since Blizzard managed to turn that game around I see no reason why they should not be able to the same for SC2, if they want to.
|
I like the idea of reaching for perfection that David Kim mentioned. Some day WC4 will be out and patching will only happen if it reaches a severely imbalanced state. I don't necessarily envy moba patching. I have played many more games of them than I'd like to admit, but if I went back to play DotA or LoL today, say some friends hit me up and wanted to go play this, I honestly would be oblivious on how to play it.
That said I think Blizzard Starcraft 2 is currently too passive, as I believe we have not yet reached that perfect state.
|
I hope this is a joke thread. Most people left because there was too many patches and they were not playing enough to catch up with the changes. I've got friends who didn't buy LoTV because they were fed up with the game changing again and having to pay for it.
The whole balancing question is irrelevant as the game as prob never been better balanced. I feel maps are awesome right now.
AND Blibli made a massive change to LoTV not so long ago.
And anyways, patching will not attract new players.
Mods can probably close this discussion. This is prob the most irrelevant I've read in a long while, and some were closed for less than that

@ LDaVinci
They main problem of SC 2 is and was that in everey expansion and wol gameplay problems were not adressed earlier we had 6 month of swarmhost host meta against mechplay in hots. So People left the game. Lotv has the same problem. The game needs frequently balance patches. Heroes of the storm increased its playerbase after 2.0. Also we could get new units and the meta will shift again.... People will come back if we get some changes....
|
"I think many people left the game because SC 2 doesnt get enough balance patches."
That is an assumption based on... what exactly? I dont think "patches" are the reason "most" people left.
The thing is, making that claim with no supporting data to back it up is kinda pointless.

While the game is perfect, hence the few community feedbacks from the balance team. There is always room to try stuff on the testserver. But if something is perfect, how can you improve it. Thats the question the team is trying to answer. Till then, play games you enjoy

So you think that Blizzard did a good Job of handeling SC 2 in regarding patches. All good multiplayergames which have high views get massive patches. And no it is not an excuse to say its harder for RTS games to patch things. We have a test server. Sometimes they do nothing for a month. The community said many times that Tier 3 air Units for Terran and Protoss are cancer for the game. The Balance team does nothing. Blizzard promissed mech viability. We had a fun Beta with cyclones and mobile mech against Protoss in Lotv. I know that it was to strong. Then Blizazrd destroyed it completly and never changed it back. We told Blizzard that every race should hav estrong ground Units vs. air. The Balance Team does nothing.
Look people like Idra left the game because Blizzard didnt change things fast enough. Again everey other good E-Sport title gets more patches frequently. This is not the case in SC 2. Thats one of the reasons that our playerbase is shrinking.

I stopped caring about Dota 2 because every half year or so they felt the need to turn the whole game on it's head when I just wanted to play the game I liked and not a different one.
|
A game that was close to perfect would not go from 100k viewers to 20k.
If the company were I work released a product that lost 80% of of its customers and I told management that product is almost perfect there is nothing to improve I would get fired.
However what I do suspect is that Blizzard concluded some time ago that SC2 is a lost cause. They could not say this officially of course since it would damage their brand, instead they put all their effort in their other products while keeping their SC2 staff as small as possible while maintaining the appearance of still supporting the product.
That is the only explanation that makes sense given the current state of the game and complete lack of effort from Blizzard to turn things around.

dota is balanced around hero picks/team compositions. so if you wanted to apply the same sort of balancing in SC2, it would be that players pick their starting race based on matchup (based on meta).
obviously, this is more difficult to do in SC2 than in dota, because changing race is a lot harder than picking up a new hero. but, i wonder if anyone has seriously considered this in SC2 (or if it is even legal)?
i would think this would be the 'next generation' of SC2 player - the person who plays all 3 races and drafts them in the meta based on matchup

For me (GM EU every season) I left the game a while after HOTS came out. I played random and it was just amazing how frankly retarded Blizz treated Sc2 with the discussions going on. I wrote a massive thread on Blizznet in 2014 about how the game will be dead in 2017 unless Blizzard starts rolling out major patches and content ALOT more frequently.
The fact that the game wasn't even close to living up to expectations that were set after BW and the fact that the game had enormous issues with balance and stupid mechanics just made the game unplayable to some extent for people below Diamond. It took months for Blizz to fix even the most fundamentally broken mechanics and builds in the entire game which apparently has showed, the game is dead, the playerbase has left and Blizzards reputation is damaged for years atleast in my circle of friends.
This isn't just SC2, every single game Blizzard has ever released has always had the same problem, poor communication. There was a time when the big games weren't everywhere and you couldn't just go anywhere and play anything. If Blizzard's slow, people will leave and go play PUBG, Dota, LoL, CS:GO, HS or just sit at home fapping to donkeyporn.
Diablo III: It took them MONTHS to remove the RMAH at which point over 50% of the playerbase already left and it showed drastically in the expansionsales. SC2: 4-Gate, 1-supply-Roach, Nex-BS and the list just keeps going.
|
it took sooooooooooo long for them to do anything about the stagnation in HS (back when face hunter was spammed for like a year and only 1 mage deck was brought to a 100-person tourney), i quit and never played it since. what they're doing with the constant expansions now is really cool tho imo

@ Lejonet
You are absolutly right. I play SC 2 nearly everey day in multipalyer 1 v 1. What makes me sad is, that it could be a really good game and a worthy successor to BW if we would have a Balance Team that is open for more changes.
Everey other competitive game gets more changes and patches. They have a healthy playerbase. SC II Balance team sits there and only does some minor changes.
Terran mech play in BW is awsome. Now look at the views of BW. They have more than Lotv because the gameplay is 10000 times more fun to watch. In BW there are more different strategies for Terran. Protoss design is way better in BW. Blizzard did a good job with Zerg design in sc 2(only swarmhosts are crap).
Blizzard has to learn that they have to adjust gameplay mechanics more frequently. This is the main problem that SC 2 has! Also look at hearthstone. Lifecoach left the game because of Blizzards incomeptence to patch the game frequently. The viewership is also going down for hearthstone because they dont patch the game frequently between expansions.....

Yes, the problem was among other that during entire WoL and HOTS that Terrans was never punished for fucking up and Protoss/Zerg was always completely misbalanced on different aspects and instead of actually FIXING the problem by figuring out what was actually going on they decided to "Nope, this is working well, 50% derpderp".
It just boggled my mind how they could not see that 1-supply-Roach was completely broken, 4-Gate was hilariously broken and Hellions not costing gas was just sad but the biggest entire problem they EVER added to SC2: FF and WG.
FF was such a fundamentally broken mechanic in a game like this that it was insane that they didn't remove it during the beta. The entire race of Protoss relied on having shitty T1-T2.5 units which were supported by Colossi along with FFs to create a massive Deathball. This meant you either went all-in with Immortals and Sentries or you waited for 3/3/3 maxed out 200-A-Move-Supbitches-ball. WG also destroyed defenders advantage and everything that comes with it. FF also destroys everything known as micro on all levels when you can just move all enemyunits to wherever you want them to be.
SC2 had the chance of becoming the best game ever made and to some extent it was good but Blizzard as usual are always slow on balancing and actually doing changes to the games they create and that meant the game is now dead and buried.

I don't the game to be patched more often. I already struggle to learn and execute build olders correctly even when i play a lot, more balance patchs would mean less time to learn the meta and that would be a nightmare for me.
