This HoTS game is pretty sweet. I'm level 25 now, so I have about 62 games under my belt. I've played all of the big hitters of the MOBA world from DOTA 1 - Heroes of Newerth - DOTA 2 - League of Legends, and each of these games has their strengths and weaknesses. I've been big on WoW Arenas, SC:BW back in 2001-2004, Diablo II dueling, and so much more in the gaming world. Before I continue, I'd also like to note that each of these games has had more players than HoTS and each has proven the endurance of its player base over a number of years.
HoTS is both new and its longevity is untested.
One thing that has always drawn me into a game, and let me note something first. I've always been a player who ends up with a "crew". A group of people that I play with often. It tends to be that people naturally gravitate together and form groups, friendships, etc. There are things that help this and things that don't.
As I was saying, one thing that has always drawn me into a game is the communication. the camaraderie that comes from it. The ability to talk across to the other team. All chat. All chat is a weapon and a helping hand. I've lent innumerable numbers of tips to new players and experienced players who were making gross gameplay errors and paying too high a price for such a simple thing overlooked. For example, I was playing vs a Murky the other day and I really wanted to let him know some good spots to hide his egg. But I'm sitting here in the HoTS client, locked into a non-social straitjacket with a god damn muzzle over my mouth!
It'd be great to see those LOL and OMG bombs explode in all chat when big plays go down. It'd be great to see a bit of whiny bitches able to complain in chat and get a reply. Instead HoTS puts us all into sick little bubbles -- my opponents have been depersonalized, my own self is being restrained and crumpled into the equivalent of an advanced A.I. Bot whenever I step onto the HoTS battlefield.
Therefore, this is a call to action that all chat be enabled in game.

I would much prefer them to enable mic chat with your team than having all chat on. Having to type to explain stuff to your teammates is a pain to do in a team game, especially when you want to point out something wrong in the middle of a fight or you just want your freaking team to focus fire properly.
But I know why they are doing it. 90% of the time, nothing good will come out of it for various different reasons, whether I'll be voice chat or all chat.
|
Well they want to implement a similar system like hearthstone has were you can throw taunts etc. So the OMGs and LOLs would be covered. I understand your points though, I wouldn't mind an use at your own risk option that enables all chat. But for me the internet has come down to levels I don't want to deal with. So as long as the All chat is disabled you don't even see your team members chatting. I know its not what you want, but that would be my idea for a compromise.

Well, all chat was implemented in a certain form in the alpha/beta. You had a chat well with emotes, similar to hearthstone, and you could laugh, say GG, well played, say thanks, taunt, and stuff. Also at the end of the game if you wrote "gg" or similar, it was automatically put into an all chat. This feature was removed in order to "make it better" or some weird reason like that, but they have said it will come back.
Now...I don't know if I should tell people here, since Blizzard might block it...but there is a way to talk to your oponents, at least after the game. Contrary to your team mates, when you click on the gear at the stat screen you dont get an option to message them, but you do get one to block communications. Weird right? that you are able to block communications with a player that you can't talk to... Well, if you go into the chat, and write /w and start writing one of your opponents name, it will appear up in the chat, you click it, and bam you can talk to him.
And I may stop playing this game the moment they implement voice chat, I'm not interested in kids screaming at me and people talking shit in other languages.

Voice chat wouldn't be bad as long as their is an easy way to mute people.

well since you are from mexico you should have spanish and english covered. imagine a little italian kid screaming at a russian while the french taunts both of them . . .

I agree that voice chat benefits from an easy way to mute people. Nice tip on how to contact opponents after a match.

Pretty sure that I saw Blizzard mention that they plan to implement voice features in the game to talk to teammates in the near future.
I also don't understand the no All-Chat. It just makes Blizzard look like some over-controlling parents that want to dictate precisely how we interact to not allow All-chat. Just implement the feature and let us disable it in the options menu.

I'm glad there is no all chat and the feature has absolutely zero value

I'm completely with you. Honestly if people are such fragile snowflakes that they can't handle people talking to them, you can make it optional to turn on. That way none of the people that don't want to see it have to, and people for who it's important can partake.
And honestly to say it has absolutely zero value is ridiculous. Some times you want to talk to the opponent. Perhaps to ask if any body else is lagging, just off the top of my head.
It's not even like all chat is the only way for toxicity to happen. I get way more toxicity from my own team than enemies all the time. Should we turn off team chat because i'm a delicate child and my teammate telling me to uninstall might hurt my feelings?

Who are you kidding? The only time someone from the other team talks to you is when they flame/bash you or complain about their teammates.

I dont see the value. The same way you can ask your teammates if someone is lagging.

Offcourse you do, because there is no way to chat with the enemy team. When they enable it you can expect twice the toxicity.

Lemme get this straight: OP wanted to tell an enemy Murky where to hide his egg during the game? And he thinks the opponent would gladly listen to him?
|
Voice chat for groups definitely needs to be looked at. Enemy chat could also be useful...for example my best BNET friends are the ones who beat me in a great game, and I genuinely GGed and whispered them after.
EDIT: Talking about SC2 but surely it could be translated to hots

I'm talking coming from other games where all chat is enabled. I still get more toxicity in League for instance from my own teammates, because they are personally offended that I am dragging them down
Also it's really nice when you recognize a name from the other team and you wanted to talk a little trash playfully or compliment their play.

Strange, I don't see why someone would be afraid of speaking to their opponents. Worse case scenario they act like a fool and you mute them. To me the competitive banter is fun.

All chat would be nice, but allied voice chat would be a lot more useful.

Blizzard catering to a specific market might be why.

I think all chat/voice toggle options should at least be available for Hero league...
|
Yep no all chat is really sad.
|
What is really interesting is that because there is no all chat, the people who get angry take it out on their own team instead of the enemy team. This is why there is so much toxicity. All chat would actually fix everything.
