I have this feeling in my gut that when I go on vacation, my landlord comes into my room (she has the key to it) and snoops around. (She lives on the bottom floor of the complex.)

I'm looking for some tips on how I might rig something to verify my suspicions. I was thinking about sticking a piece of paper in the slit of the door so that if it opens, the paper should drop to the ground, but I tried it a few time and it doesn't seem very reliable. Any suggestions?

What do you plan to do if you discover the landlord did in fact snoop around your room? If you are just curious, then you can use whatever method you want. If you actually plan to take some sort of action, you will need proof that the landlord came in, so things like taping hair across the door won't be sufficient.

Ofc you have to take the window out if you want it to be on the inside.

Leave a note that's visible and obvious once you open the door that reads "Whoever keeps breaking into my room, you are on camera."
Then you come home and see if your room has been turned upside-down looking for the camera.

Or what my brother used to do (I was a shitty older brother) was have a shirt or something tucked into the top of the door which would fall when it was opened. He got really good at hiding it, too.

Doesn't your landlord have full rights to inspect the premises, especially while you're on vacation? Unless she's straight up stealing or damaging something, I feel like you could just talk to her.

Here in Canada the landlord has to give at least 24h notice and you get to be there. There are a lot of tenancy rights here though.

My landlord also made an unsanctioned stop at my place recently... How disappointed she must have been to see I spent the entire day before cleaning my property and house on a whim.

Rig up a trap that fucks with intruders. A good one would be to make it so whoever comes in 'accidentally' breaks something that either has value to the landlord or looks like it has value to you.
