And, as little as I believed I'd say this.. if Naniwa starts competing in LoL I might actually start watching it, haha! I'm a much bigger Naniwa fan than I'm a Starcraft fan apparently.
Even if you are your own person, its never a good feeling when people 'hate' on you. I am sure it hurts him too, may he admit it or not. That stuff always sucks and yes - he just pushes on and thinks "fuck them" but still, it hurts. Its the same thing TB said about reading youtube comments, this x% of badmouthing people can quickly crush you mentally. And as we all know, Johan has a whole lot of them. Its important to realize tho that we (his true fans and followers, not just the type of people that will cheer for him when he's winning) will always support him, and I think that is something way more amazing and way greater than the negative aspect of the community.
If naniwa does not play a normal game, basically all the antifans will lash out. Even a proxy recieves its fair share of hate (talking about the hyun proxy in iem NY now). Even sOs does it, so why is it so hard for ppl to accept. If a viable mind game strategy is enough for antifans to spew hate, then imagine abandoning a match midseries. Makes it kinda rough making those desicions, being naniwa. I do not agree fully with his move, i wanted to see more naniwa games, but it was his desicion to make, hence I support it. Makes me wonder if it would have recieved the same amount of hate had it been a more generally lovable character of sc2. Naniwa will always have my support, and I count the days until his return

You basically nailed my feelings about the situation!
I really hope he's not done with e-sport atleast. I think he can accomplish good things outside of playing too even if people seem to disbelieve that!
I wish to see him win again sometime in the future. It's a testament to his skill and impact on the scene that he has a massive anti-hate club. Even well known figures such as Stephano came out during the IEM incident just to shit on him, essentially stating "see? all my earlier hate was justified". That's pretty pathetic.
herMan I agree with you. To watch the community go f*cking crazy whenever Naniwa is doing things "not according to schedule" is a true testament to a great player. I wonder where all this hate comes from. Of course I like Naniwa a lot so I am not objective. But if you actually watch his interviews on youtube I think you see a person who doesnt like to be in that position but a a person who actually feels honest. 0 % poser. I have seen a lot of streams and a lot of tweets that are disgusting. But people generally dont mind.... Well, they dont mind as long as it isnt naniwa. Its so weird.
I forgot to make a wish to my comment before. From what I have seen Naniwa and Sase seems like very good friends. Sase is coming home to Sweden in May after some years in Taiwan.
I wish that Naniwa is resting completely until May and then he and Sase starts to pratice together. Naniwa is a fucking genious and Sase (of course amazingly good as well) seems so calm and collected. I think they can be good as partners in crime. That is a scenario I would like to see. Naniwa and Sase, that could be a duo that actually works.

Naniwa could have been a lovable character in Sc2 but instead hes always been a douche. I doubt people truly dislike him because he cheeses, probably more like hes an asshat to everyone. EVEN HUSKY (omgwtf!?!) Im fine with him leaving the scene like this, but it was his own choice. Like people would cheer for him after he gave up... I dont have what it takes to be in the spotlight, and if Naniwa doesnt either then he doesn't need to be in the spotlight. Suprise!!! People on the internet are assholes, get used to it Naniwa, you baby
Part of the reason that I loved Naniwa so much was his passion and his constant struggle to be the best. Other 'foreigners' settled for occasionally beating a Korean player.. but not him. Naniwa thought he could be the best player in the world and that killer instinct and attitude is something that I really admired in him. Losing a map with a build and having such confidence in his skills to do the same exact build again and win with it vs. the top players in the world.... wow. The couple of times I saw him play live you could feel his energy in the air. You could see his concentration on his face and his desire to win. And the energy in the crowd was amazing.. like nothing I've ever seen eSports wise.
I guess that's why his forfeit at IEM disappointed me so much. He showed none of that desire to be the best. None of the championship mentality he showed when I cheered for him at Comic Con (IEM). Instead he just looked like he was forced to be there against his will. And maybe he was, who knows...
I really hope he regains his passion for the game and comes back to compete. Despite his bm, his childlike behavior, and sometimes downright shitty attitude... at his best, he is such an inspiration to us all.
He seems to be struggling a lot on a personal level lately. I wish him the best. Sure, I'm a disappointed fan.. and some of his actions are really inexcusable.. but I still think he did good for the game, and I hope that others follow in his footsteps if he does not return.
Koreans are but mortals. They're flesh and blood like everyone else. Naniwa showed us that.

Oh but people ARE spewing hate because of cheese. Other spew hate because of the leave. There are negative comments about basically everything he does, if you look carefully enough. Yes, internet is a loud bunch. And they have their internet right to be. But when ppl are starting to throw in personal comments and meaningless hate, then I have to question it. It's not like they are acting better than naniwa behaving like that.
And as a small reminder, this is his fanclub. And I suppose you "couldn't care less", but then that makes you an asshat as well.

Walking in to a fanclub and spew hate is not tolerated. Its like I would go to (insert name here's) fanclub and say mean stuff. Btw, you can leave to my friend.
nani is one of the most authentic people in the community.
Fakers hate on him of course, coz he has courage to do what they don't. Act according to his own will even if people may heavily dislike it.
Unlike Idra, who tried to be that guy "I don't give a fuck I do my own thing", he was fake about it. Idra was controversial on purpose. Nani is just being himself, and controvery happens without trying, as he is an unusual individual.
He's my favorite personality, and the most talented (by talent, I mean 'raw talent' + will to practice) foreigner ever to play SC2 imo.
No regrets here being a hardcore naniwa fan. So you shouldnt have any regrets as well as being a hardcore yourself, not giving into community opinion and satisfying everyone around you, cuz its impossible. At the very end, people are going to love you and hate you for the same fact: being yourself. Would love to hear from you about your upcoming plans!!
Hmm.. interesting posts on this fanclub, just a passerby browsing. (I can't really call myself a fan or an "antifan", but was curious what happens in this club after the events at IEM).
But, don't you fellas think you're bashing the other side a bit too hard? I see posts here and there about "fakers" and "antifans" and such and such hating on Naniwa because they're stupid / cowardly / mainstream. And, while it's true there are people like that, (especially you, reddit), there are some of us who were genuinely annoyed that we got gimped on a potentially really awesome series.
Polt vs Naniwa, before IEM, anybody would have to admit this was gonna be one helluva match. Both have been playing since WoL and have had huuge success, and hell, this match had a foreigner in it, the only one in the brackets. So many things to look forward to, so much hype, so much expectations.
And what did Naniwa do to us hopeful people? Not only did he not put up a good show, he didn't put up a show at all. Excuse some of us if we express genuine disappointment and disapproval (like TB), it's not to hate on Naniwa because of his character and BM, but because he let us fans down. We're not sitting here frothing at the mouth, hopping on the hate train. We're just sad / frustrated that he has absolutely no regard for the audiences' hopes and desires.
What could he have done? If he didn't practice and didn't care, why bother playing at all? Look at the potential players who could have filled his spot if he had forfeited his spot instead of wasting a potential good match- Jaedong, Hyun, Dear, hell- Leenock even. Any of these players would have given it their all, and even if they went down 3-0, it would have been a good show. But Polt winning 1-0, that's just painful to think about in a tournament as large as IEM.
I'll take my leave, knowing some of you will simply bash that I'm criticizing Naniwa in his own fanclub, but the point is, there are genuine people out there who have good reason to be at least a little frustrated with Naniwa and think "good riddance" after all of this. If you guys are generalizing every single one of us as "haters" and "cowards", then are you really that much better?
i referee-ed and admin-ed a couple of CraftCup events that Naniwa was involved in. i found the guy to be very detail oriented and kind of picky and particular. but, if you were well organized and had all your i's dotted and t's crossed he was easy to deal with. at that point i was a "nobody" and Naniwa was a "superstar". I found him to be simple and straight forward to deal with as long as you had everything well organized.
i can't speak for all of the CraftCup staff though, they may have a different opinion.
Naniwa's exit reminds me of how "bad guy wrestlers" end things at a WWE event. Rather than straight up lose a match they know they will lose... they take a steel chair out from the crowd.. hit the referee over the head with it and get DQ-ed... as the crowd booo-s them out of the building.

you're being fair, and are not 'bashing'.
I only don't like people disliking him for being an 'ass' or similar.
Look, put yourself in his shoes. You don't practice, you don't care about the game. You get free airline tickets and a free chance to compete for $100 000.
You decide, ah fuckit, since im already here, I may as well try with 'cheese' / surprising tactics. You realize soundproofing is bad, and suddenly you feel even worse about your "standard game" skill being terrible due to no practice. You could easily feel like crying of helplessness, and probably 'swallow the cries'. And then you are supposed to fight for at least 2 more games, and wreck your image of a once-skilled player.
It's no wonder he just took off. And I respect him. Sure, he couldve stayed, lose 2 more - probably bad- games, and smile like an idiot to be nice. I just much more appreciate people being authentic, personally.
-- update: I'd have also prefered to see him fight and watch close games. But Naniwa isn't really a quitter. Him quitting tells me that he was absolutely sure the games would've been terrible. He's played Polt many times and knows his level well.
XiaoXiaoo I dont think people in here are mad about that sort of critizism that you make. You explain what you dislike and why. For me, and I assume many other people, the sad part is that just the name Naniwa causes people to spew crap all over him. There are many who are programmed like that. And it is that kind of hate that I am disgusted about. He is a human and this is a game and most people dont know him.
When I write "hater" I actually mean people who hate. Not people who dislike certain actions. Its weird that you get offended by us who are disgusted by the fact that people instantly must show their hate no matter what naniwa (or anyone else of course) does. I think you have missed the point. We are not calling other people mental retards if they think Naniwa is not the best foreigner. Noone would care about little things like that. Its the extreme reactions that some people show that we (I) dislike.
