Hello,
I am attempting to stream with OBS to twitch for Dota 2. As of now everything is working at this point (quality is good) but the frame rate is dropping so the viewer is seeing it skip. There is no lag when I'm playing and OBS is streaming the game. What can I do to fix the drop in frame rates?
Here are specs for my computer...
OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Professional System Type x64-based PC Processor AMD A8-3870 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics, 3300 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s) RAM: 8GB Internet to Toronto server 37ms I live 30minutes from Toronto and 30 Minutes from Niagara Falls (canada) Download speed: 5.04 Mbps Upload speed: .70 Mbps *closes server to connect for me is NY, NY (USA)

Upload speed: .70 Mbps
Your bitrate is set 5x higher than your max upload instead of 0.8x as high, use 400-500 and lower resolution
|
Yikes.
Is there any reason you're using the Chicago server instead of New York? And why do you have a custom vbvmaxrate? And why is it set to 4500kbps if your upload speed is tested at only 700kbps? Even 3500 would be too high for you. And I really doubt an AMD APU can handle streaming 720p Dota2, but it's hard to say without personally trying it.

Im a noob at this so ill just state that, exactly what do i need to alter to achieve this? Change what setting to what and numbers to what.
Example fps 30 to 35.

(conservative) audio encoding bitrate from 128 to 96
video bitrate from 3500 to 400
delete the vbvmaxrate line in the fifth screenshot
fps to 20
resolution downscale 1.5x (720p) to 2x (540p)

Hi guys, I was hoping you could help me smooth out my stream a little bit. Thanks to this thread i already got my dropped frames down from 36% to 0%. But i still have pixelation on movement. It is better than before but i would like to get it smoother if possible. I have posted a log file. I tried to post images but i was not allowed too.
Oh, my cpu is running at 4.3 not 3.3 like the log says.

What's your upload speed? Rapid movement is pretty much always going to be pixelated unless you can use a really high bitrate. You're using 500-600kbps which simply isn't enough to produce a high quality stream.
You can drop your audio bitrate to give you more room to raise your max bitrate, but if you're already pushing the limits on your upload speed then you aren't going to notice huge improvements here.

2.1 Mbps. I dont have super high end internet yet.

As said. You might want to try using the Medium preset and a lower resolution, such as 2.0x downscale (540p) instead of 1.5x (720p)
^That is assuming you're stuck at that bitrate. If you can give it 1500-3000, it'd be perfect, but you maybe can't
Edit: You have 2.1 up? Try 1000 and then 1500 max bitrate.

wow, you guys are fast repliers. Thank you, i will test out the new bitrates and get back to you. In the preview my frame drop is still 0% so thats good.
|
Yeah, 1500kbps would help a ton. Don't be discouraged if you still see some pixelating during scenes with a lot of motion, it's pretty normal with livestreaming.

This post has been the most helpful information I could find so I apologize in advance for bringing up an old thread.
All the other games i have played streamed fine so far but now I cant seem to fix the problem with dropped frame rates on this new MMO.
My internet is great 94mbps upload and 94mbps download
I have changed the settings and looked up a bunch of stuff but everything says I should be just fine the way I have it.

Does it work with output set to downscale to 1280x720? I'm not sure how to read most of this log stuff

Ya I have tried that and even lower resolution, I don't understand the log to much either but from what I see the problem is | sending stuff out - [1.1%] [avg time: 0.027 ms].

Looks like you might want to try a different streaming server (or you just happened to stream when Twitch was laggy, which is totally possible).
(For future reference, you can paste/upload your log here for a quick analysis: https://obsproject.com/analyzer)

11:32:32: | scene->Preprocess - [99.9%] [avg time: 1509.53 ms]
This means it's taking OBS almost 1.5 seconds just to render your scene. It looks like you're using window capture instead of game capture, you should probably change that. Your video card is very weak though, the problems are likely caused by the game using up all the GPU bandwidth so OBS can't composite the scene.

Your upload is too bad to stream with.

Having some issues here with Frame rates dropping. I will post my PC specs below as per protocol .

Ashburn VA is closest streaming location. Also using Happauge HD PVR 2 to capture. Will not let me use the capture card so i have to use windowed.
