Stephano is going to do the same thing against Rain like he did vs Parting,Squirtle and MC and all the other Korean toss players he dominated . Trust me if Stephano meets Rain in the WSC people is going to cry zerg is op again I wouldn't say he is in great shape. His ratio on the korean ladder is worrying? You do know that the account had a large number of games played this season already right? He has something like a 65% + win ratio on the KR ladder, thats pretty good with his PC

I still think Rain is the most dangerous opponent stephano can face in WCS.
(not like their is only bad player, but it's the most dangerous)

I disagree for me he looks in really good shape. Better creep spread then before his new ZvP builds looks great for the current protoss metagame. And well Ladder is just ladder. First 2 time Stephano was in Korea he had a +70% win ratio he can do that any time he wants. I was watching his last stream and he barely lost any games a hole evening. Remember Stephano is just in Korea to practise for next months tournaments. Nahh I think we can expect great things for Stephano the next month I wouldn't be surpiced at all if he wins 1 or 2 tournament and get top 5 in the rest.

I agree Rain is the best protoss he can face in WCS but Im much more worried about Stephano´s ZvZ. There is a lot of zergs who is really good in ZvZ. Curious etc. So I hope Stephano has practised a lot in the ZvZ matchup

Since I have no life (and Stephano/EG screwed us this month), I'm in the process of rewatching Rain's complete GSL, OSL, and WCS Asia runs (but there are few PvZs in there anyway). All I can say is trying to finish Rain before hive tech is an exercise in futility. He has stellar defense and control so making excess units will only hurt zerg in the long run. Life somehow did beat up Rain early on (maybe it was the GSL cross matches where Kespa players were anonymous) but I'm sure he's learned to defend Life's crazy aggression. According to his OSL victory interview, Rain and Life have met plenty on ladder and they're about 50% but Rain could just be modest again.
A major problem with DRGs play in the OSL finals was his very poor engagements (no flanks, inferior infestor usage compared to Stephano) so Stephano would be better in that regard but we don't know if it'd be enough. The key to beating Rain (and I believe Stephano to be a slight underdog) is outmacro-ing protoss as always and not taking too much damage from the harass/sick multitask of Rain. Rain did lose 4-1 to hyvaa (a kespa zerg) but he definitely didn't play his best. Two out of four of DRGs losses were dying to 3 base immortal pushes so Stephano has a chance there, denying bases/sniping tech is where Rain is truly dangerous.
As long as Stephano doesn't have to face Rain and Roro early on in WCS I'll be happy. But I'm really worried it's single elimination (stupid Blizzard) where the brackets make a huge difference, argh.

I agree. I hope he avoids both Rain and Roro (especially Roro).
As to his chances against Rain: I think that at this point Stephano's zvp is substantially better than DRG's so I don't view DRG's getting thrashed as that predictive of how Stephano would fair. Also did you have a chance to see Hyvaa's series against Rain? I haven't yet. I'm curious how Hyvaa beat Rain so badly. It seems like Rain likes to do three base pre-hive attacks a la Creator. I just feel like Stephano's not going to have trouble with that style. He also has very good warp prism harassment but if Stephano's looking for that I also don't see it as a huge issue. His win rate vP in Korea on this trip seems like it's 80%+ since he loses so many zvzs. This is all to say that I don't think he should be terrified of Rain and I would put him at about even odds since Rain isn't going to show Stephano anything he hasn't seen before, although he is a bit more polished than your average top tier Protoss player. I think the scariest Protoss is actually Creator, who appears to have no weaknesses against zerg and the best 3 base pre-hive timing pushes I've ever seen.
Based on Roro's zvz performances, I'd have to heavily favor him against Stephano. (It really is baffling to me that Stephano has figured out that match up yet.)

I imagine there will be some sort of seeding in the draw for WCS Finals. Stephano is Champion of Europe and Rain is Champion of Asia. That probably means they will be on the opposite sides of the draw. No point worrying about it. It is supposed to be a tough tournament.

his games today against mana were waaayy to 1 sided. as if mana doesnt even try T__T

Yeah game 3 was meaningless.. I feel like Stephano took the game for granted since the first two were so easy.

The reason Rain is so exciting as Protoss is that he combines the best aspects of several players. Sure his style is somewhat passive/defensive/boring at times, but he has the harass/multitask of a Hero, the unit control/micro of a Parting or MC, backed up by superior macro like Creator. Once he gets Squirtle-like decision making/experience/builds he's almost unbeatable.. Rain's skill shines through in PvP where he has supposedly turned a coinflip into complete domination (5-1 against a hot Parting, 5-0 not even close games vs Hero, 2-0 MC, 2-0 destruction of Crank, etc.). Once protosses copy his perfect late-game PvP compositions they still won't have edges in the other areas like map awareness and taking engagements. Enough hype.. watch Hyun roll Rain this Fri. in GSL (can't wait for that one)
The good thing about Roro vs Stephano is that Roro plays very macro-y (like Rain) so he won't try to end the ZvZ early which seems to be Stephano's biggest weakness (mutas and timing attacks in ZvZ). Against DRG, Roro killed him in the infestor war but Stephano can probably hold his own. Roro also has stellar multitask. The reason Kespa zergs are so scary is because they can combine Stephano's strengths (so0 pulled off such a beautiful Stephano-esque 360 degree surround on Flash) but with better mechanics (perhaps).. I always wonder if his inject technique is a limiting factor.. soO also goes for the sickest creep spread vs Terran. Unimpeded he creeped up to Flash's 3rd base on cloud kingdom at the 13:00 mark (other side of the map)!! It's supposed to be good to block you opponent's 4th base on cloud kingdom at 15:00ish maybe.
[For Darkness, hyvaa beat Rain b/c I'm pretty sure Rain was trying out stuff / not playing to his potential. He did I believe 2 immortal allins and generally did not macro like usual. I don't like when players say they lose b/c they're hiding builds (like MC vs Stephano NASL) but in this case I really think it's true. Also Rain being teammates with soO is just unfair. That's why I love Stephano.. he has to overcome so many disadvantages]

I know this is Stephano's fanclub, but do you links to free vods highlighting Rain's play to hype me up before WCS?
edit: Thanks a lot!

totally agree. Those games was just fantastic

The Groups for ESWC have been released..
http://www.esplanet.net/article/226-sc2-groups-for-eswc-revealed/
Stephano has SortOf, Petraeus and Freizy in his Group.Petraeus is a Zerg from New Zealand, Freizy is a Protoss from the Czech Republic. I assume it is Round Robin with the Top 2 qualifying into the KO stages.
Nerchio has pulled out of the tournament so this should improve Stephano's chances. Other notable threats are Squirtle and ForGG, Slivko and Dimaga.
|
Where is Nerchio ?
Damn I wanted Stephano to win, but with this line-up it's not challenging and almost not intrusting : /
Edit : sorry didnt read everything, but those players... I'm sad :x
|
Well, ForGG beat him in a tournament recently (Can't remember which one, sadly) so that match up should be pretty exiting imo.
|
Guys, can you compile some of Stephano's best games? Most standard builds also OK. Teaching a friend Zerg. Thank you!
