Update: Draft dates/times have been added. These dates were the absolute best to accomodate the maximum number of people. If you can't make it, I suggest you set your pre-draft rankings and let yahoo autodraft for you. It usually isn't a major hindrance to success if you set your order properly. If the draft date/time works for you in one league and not the other, let me know and we may be able to swap teams.

i never played before o_o.. i understand its a lot more complicated that fantasy bw (:D...) but i always was interested so i have a couple of questions.
How should i prepare myself to make a competent fantasy team? How much time is spent per week on average? Is there any past fantasy draft that i should look over to get a good gist of what will occur?
that being said if newbies are welcome, I'm interested

Hell yeah! I know rod from last year also would love to play (he's PasswordIsTaco from last season) too! Had a blast.. and this time I'll be there for the draft!!

Would love to play agian this year, last year was so much fun. I'm hoping for more active players this year tho.
edit: I'm PasswordIsTaco from last season

I played fantasty bball for the first time last year, it's really easy to understand and play (I have some years of experience with fantasy football tho). I think I spent around 5-10 min per day to setup my team. Take a look at the thread from last year (linked in the op) for answer on some simple questions, or ask them here, and I'm sure people will help you out.

We're getting pretty close to full. We got 8 here already and I know my buddy from last year (OnjoS) is back in again. So we're looking for 3 or so more people. I guess I'll start a second league if we have the demand for it (I wouldn't mind being in a second one or someone else can head that project).

that being said if newbies are welcome, I'm interested I'd say you prepare yourself by getting an account on yahoo and learning the format (standard categories, head-to-head, 13 players per team) and then making yourself a preliminary list of players you want to draft. We're drafting 156 players during the draft (12 teams x 13 players) but making a list of your top 156 is probably a waste of time. Instead maybe make a list of a few players you think will do excellent and decide where you want to draft them. Maybe something like 2 players per round depending on your draft position (which you'll find out when we set up the league). For example, if you're drafting #1, you want to decide whether you want Lebron or KD. After that, don't even worry about ranking the top 10 guys because you won't be drafting any of them. Focus on round 2 and then 3 etc.
Time spent per week? A few hours. I like to pop in a few times a day to see who other people are picking up, if anyones available on the waiver wire I'm interested in, FAs, etc. etc. But these are quick checks, so maybe a 10 minute stop a few times a day? On average you're probably wasting 30-60 mins a day at most (usually while you're doing other things).
I wouldn't bother with past drafts. You can do mock drafts (I think yahoo has that functionality) if you want. But I would look at pre-draft rankings on yahoo (and other sites if you want) to get a general feel for where a player you're interested may be drafted.
If you're still interested, go ahead and post in here. But please, don't commit to it unless you can be active all season. Even if you're in dead last without a chance in hell of winning, try to stay active. Just so you don't ruin it for others. I might even expand the playoffs to 8 teams this year to encourage people to stay active.

Im assuming you will post a poll or something to decide when the drafting will take place?
|
How much time you spend depends on the format. Head to Head points requires the least time in terms of analyzing players for the draft and even for making line ups. H2H favors "pick the best player available" or "pick whoever scores the most points".
If you're doing any kind of Roto league or H2H Category league then it takes much more analysis to make a good team since "best player available" is pretty useless and usually ends up in a crap team.

I'm just going to wait til we're full and then I'll talk to each person to decide what day/time works. Odds are we will draft on a weekend some time in the early afternoon US time so we can accomodate both EU/NA players.

I'm interested! Love basketball but I have never done a fantasy league for it before :D

Ok. There's definitely enough interest for two leagues. So well see if we can set that up.
|
So far we have 15 people. If we get up to 24, we can easily do two separate leagues. Or even 20, we could do 12 and 8 or something like that.
Anyone interested in participating in multiple leagues? That way if we don't have enough, a few can join both and fill em up.
