I assume that the new bosses are the whole 'artorias' extras, which was really awesome.
One thing I have to ask, I saw a lot of streams where people are fighitng a dragon much like the one in valley of the drakes, zombified... but inside a world that has a really dark sky and a decrepid castle? :s I didn't see this at all, perhaps I missed an area completely? also, a woman in a white dress with a scythe. Where are these located? is it hidden content?
Spoiler tags for those who are still going through the game.
+ Show Spoiler +That's the Painted World of Ariamis. You can find a "Peculiar Doll" when you return to Undead Asylum, then you go to the giant painting in the room with the guys in white in Anor Londo (the room that you cross via the rafters). If you inspect the painting, it'll teleport you into that world. If you missed the return to the asylum, here's a video to explain it.

So.. Target Shield and Buckler. Any opinions? I'm not really sure about those...
I'd really like to use them with my dagger but it seems to be so fucking hard to get the timing on the parry right.

Imo dont use parry at all, its really hard to time right and when you screw up youre gonna get beat up. Better to just let them whail at your shield and attack when theres a whole in their attacks

My experience goes like this:
- Oh... "selective clicking", well at least i am able to click - "Why the fuck do you hide the name tab at character creation !?!?" - There are a lot of stats that i can juggle between with classes... too bad they don't tell me shit about what they do in game and don't give me any under the hood numbers - Began the game, had to figure out the interaction button since its obviously too much of a hassle to change some text for PC in a port that was done in 4 months - " Those camera controls are real shitty" - " Why the fuck did i not get hit by the demon, the animation clearly showed him hitting me ?" shortly followed by " Why the fuck did i get hit by the demon, the animation was miles away from me" - When i reached the part where you get the shield and figured out END, fucking END is the button to open up the menue/inventory i gave up...
There are levels and levels of shitty PC ports... this is way bellow everything else i have seen. I am yet to see a game that hasn't even bothered to put there god damn menu on ESC. ( not that it would be the biggest problem i got with it, the controls are what i horrible but it just goes to show how much they "cared" for this port ) This officially has beaten the record of how fast i uninstalled and RPG from my PC after starting to play it. The name tab is one of the first things to come up when you create a char. In fact, it starts on the name tab, and it says, "enter name" right under create character to denote that that is what tab you are on. It tells you exactly what all the stats do in the game. Go to the status screen and it says <Back:Explanation, and back(key for open gesture menu) lets you scroll through all of the stats and it tells you what each one does. If you opened the options menu and went to keybindings, it shows all the pc keybindings. You really couldn't be arsed to open up the keybindings and see what the controls were before playing and change them to your preferred settings? If you aren't even going to attempt to figure things out or read the screen(this would have solved your name/stats issues, plain old reading) or check the controls before playing you shouldn't be bitching about them. You didn't even try.
Those were just a few things i mentioned. And as a matter of fact changing controls in this kind of game is pointless before you played a bit, controls should be changed to make you fell more comfortable but until you played a little and figure out what controls you use the most it is pointless to change them. If the game would have thrown you in and let you figure out the controls that would be fine... a lot of games did that, the fact that enrages me is that they didn't even make the effort to remove or change the tutorial or change the controls so you don't end up having to navigate trough menus with backspace, end and the arrow keys.
But again, this is not why i didn't like the games, those are just things that could have been easily fixed within 30 minutes of work at max and the fact that they were to lazy to fix ( it a 40$ games for fucks sake ) "assured" me this isn't something like darksiders or AC.. aka a port that looks shitty but "gets better".
The horrible camera control, the inaccuracy of attack animation in a dodge based game and the inability to use your mouse to change the direction of attacks/ the bad felling in general that controlling with mouse + keyboard gives you.
They could have very well had normal key bindings where buttons like control were used for abilities and not for "slo mo walk", esc was menue and i was inventory... etc and i would have still considered it a piece of shit, but porting is hard and the fans requested the game n.w so if they did a bad job at that i don't care that much, a lot of studios do. But how they botched up even the most simple of the simple goes to show how many shits they gave about this port, the could have hired an indie development team of 3-5 people and they would have likely done it better in less time.

If you'd followed this game at all, you'd know that it was going to be a lousy port saddled with GFWL. The devs told us this themselves, months ago. From Software delivered exactly what they promised - there's no room to complain here.
Dark Souls is freakin' incredible. Suck it up, buy a gamepad, and enjoy one of the best games made in years.
|
Does anyone know why this game is not on Steam? I'm going crazy, local store doesn't have it, steam doesn't have it and I can't find why...is it maybe because it's not available yet for Croatia or GFWL is not supported here or something...

Seriously spend like 20 bucks on a ps3 controller and the game'll be 10 times better for you. I know that sucks but you spent 40 bucks on it already and if you end up getting nothing out of it then all that money was wasted.

It is inferior combat-fluidty wise to both witcher games, one of which has dark difficulty now ( which is pretty had withot the special armors and massing traps/bombs on hard fights ) and the other moded difficulty. It is inded inferior in many ways to Skryim and Oblivion which both can be moded to look better, be harder and be more balanced than this game as far as i know. Calling this a "good game" for PC standards is ridiculos, I can name titles from as far as 2004 that out do this game in grpahics, lighting effects, gameplay and likely balance.

It seems to work with any gamepad. I dug up some cheap garbage one I bought 3 years ago from a box, and the game became perfectly playable, at least compared to keyboard/mouse (camera/character motion is smooth etc). I just plugged it in as well, didn't have any drivers or anything. Obviously I have nothing to compare it with since it's like the first time I'm playing anything with a gamepad in my life, but it seems fine.
|
Gamepad necessary. Long and short of everything. I was a bit upset at it initially but now I am looking at it as an opportunity to get some good emulators as well.
|
Hopefully get it on steam soon. Can't wait to start playing again, gonna bust my ps3 controller and maaaybe it can handle some frappage.

In what ways is it inferior to skyrim and oblivion? I've cleared both of those games, sure probably not done every side quest, but tbh half the side quests are dull as crap anyway. Both have terrible terrible combat systems, and the crafting is boring(steal ingots, make daggers). The stories are good and I enjoyed both games, but hell I might have well as watched a movie since there was no challenge in either game at all. Both games were open world, but the entire game worked by select quest follow pointer. Hell dark souls doesn't even have a map, the world is open (not a single load screen after you leave the asylum). You need to listen to npcs to find out where to go. The dark souls world is also far more varied than either oblivion or skyrim. wait till you go through tomb of the giants before you complain about the lighting.
You say it is inferior to the witcher games in terms of combat-fluidity...fluidity is only one aspect of combat in games. Any old devil may cry has more fluid combat. but neither have combat where you shit yourself when one more monster joins the combat and you need to run back to get to a better position, dragging the mobs through narrow passages so they cant surround you etc.
Also nothing from 2004 without mods has better graphics than dark souls.
and balance? Dont even know what you're thinking of there.

Good job bro, Dark Souls is a superior game compared to any of those, by a mile. All you need is to stop caring about graphics so much and start to enjoy deep gameplay.

Navigating through the menu controls are fine, considering the game is supposed to be one that doesn't pause when you open the menu and you sometimes want to be able to control your movement and the camera if it is open in case something happens. And the game does throw you in and force you to learn the controls, it doesn't even tell you half of the moves you can do.
Slo mo walk is necessary for a keyboard setup, thats what a keyboard can't do that an analog stick can. A key is either pressed or it's not, there is no halfway mark like a stick. The mouse controls the camera, not your char movement, complaining you can't change the direction of attacks with the mouse is silly, especially with how well the game does let you change attacks with movement (you can start swinging and then 180 and swing behind you). The camera control is a little lacking for keyboard and mouse, but target locking negates most of those issues, and gamepads can be extremely cheap anyway.
And I'm going to have to call bullshit on attack animation innaccuracy. Dark souls generally has some of the most accurate attack animations in any game (except on PS3 when there is lag in PvP, which is quite frustrating, but usually only innaccurate on backstabs). You must have made a mistake and not have seen the swing go through you or over your head.
Your arguments are all either moot, silly, or just plain wrong, which I guess isn't surprising since you didn't even finish the first area.

I haven't played Dark Souls yet, but both Skyrim and Oblivion are pretty damn stale. The only thing they have going for them are the graphics. It's a shame that Skyrim and Oblivion are somehow considered PC standard, especially because they are essentially console games. Plus, they aren't very good.

Just managed to kill Great Wolf Sif on my second try. Huge grin after the fight :D I think I was a bit lucky with my position because Sif always kinda jumped on me with his belly without dealing damage but man who cares I got him.
Currently working through Anor Londo and man I am allready hating those archers. Painted World Aramis was fun didnt kill the Halfbreed at the end tho

Skyrim had to have been the most overhyped, boring, and stale game I have ever played. Never played the previous Elder Scroll games, so don't know what they were like but holy shit Skyrim was just bleh.

So you compare Dark Souls to a modded Skyrim or Oblivion? How is that fair? Oh right, it isn't. Because Dark Souls blows vanilla Skyrim and Oblivion out of the water. The TES games have horrible combat and animations, and terribly redundant quests to boot. The best thing going for them is the large open world and of course, their large range of mods, not the actual gameplay.
You'd be hard-pressed to actually name a title from 2004 which outdoes Dark Souls graphically, and I seriously don't think you know anything about balance.

This past week before I bought dark souls pc I was playing Shadow of the Colossus (original on ps2), another game which exemplifies how Art Direction>Graphics and Gameplay>Everything else. I don't even care about the res mod for dark souls pc even though I'm using it, because the game's art direction made it gorgeous on the ps3 already, and porting it obviously wasn't going to somehow magically make it look worse.
