In Menlo Park Elementary School after lunch the fifth graders would gather around into two teams to play soccer. It was fairly apparent the teams were divided based on popularity, the cool kids and the kids who weren't. The cool kids had all the athletic kids on their team, whose parents would send them to soccer camp during the summer. The ace on the cool kids team was Steven and he had played soccer for years. The ace on the other team was David, who actually didn't even know how to properly dribble the ball but no one seemed to actually notice this except David himself. What he lacked though in technical ability with the ball he made up for in his desire to win and his speed.
It started first as just passing time before classes but became an all out war. What seemed like an easy win for the cool kids did not turn out as expected. The games were a lot closer than expected with the two teams trading wins back and forth each day. Everyone who played was looking forward to eat lunch as fast as possible and play soccer after. When they weren't playing, they were talking about it all over the school. What drove the underdog against all odds was a chance to fight back against the established hierarchy in the school.
Months have past of this and then came the last match of the school year. Everyone knew this was the last game and would decide everything. It was a long and tiring fight which eventually ended in a draw. When the game finished, there was no ill will between the two teams. They shook hands after knowing that this was the end. They will finish elementary school in a few days and next year would all be in different middle schools never to have a chance to play soccer together again.
