They probably just told the players to use the new units/abilities, and to make the game longer than 10min.

Really hope they keep carriers. The tempest is worse. 22 range is just too weird and the ground attack is pitiful(afaik). Don't see why they don't just buff carriers slightly if they don't think its used enough or not good enough.

Don't start streaming tears until at least beta. ...and that is why I really hate threads like these. We saw 1 game and a short video to introduce the new units. What does TL community do? Cry about balance for like 30 pages -_- The game itself looked like so much fun, I'm really looking forward to play the beta. Until then I think I might just ignore TL threads completly. But dude, did you SEE what W did to X while Y was fucking Z in the ass? So far, Protoss has 100% winrate over Zerg, and out of every single Terran game we've seen, Terran has won all of them and lost all of them. It's so much more fun this way.
I love you DarkPlasmaBall. Also these units look like fun but I really like what T's army is going to look like this expansion... use ALL the Transformers!

Mech in TvP will be cool. I actually kind of like the warhound. I hope we can use tanks too.
Wondering about TvZ though, ling infestor viper and burrow charge ultras seem really good. I guess we'll have to see.

Meh, I don't like the rescue-only recall, and the tempest still looks like a silly unit to me. Other changes seem quite nice though, and about balance... well, time will tell.
|
wow almost all of these changes look really good! and the battle report game was so tense. it will be really interesting to see how these entomb spells will be dealt with, as of now the zerg didn't really have an answer..

Having to basically keep an army at your base at all times just so you don't lose 30 seconds of mining is insane. Not to mention if there's no alert, you won't even get a "workers under attack" like most harassment. The cloaking and free vision are even more ridiculous. Why can't they make an observer if they want vision for the tempest?
It doesn't even matter which matchup it is, PvX just seems like it's going to be even dumber than before.
lmao, a whole army at your base? More like a handful of marines or roaches which you will be producing anyway from your barracks/hatchery near your base?

Hm. Very interesting changes but I expect some massive changes to all these units after HotS will come out. So many new tactics ^.^
btw.: what I really don't like is the fact that the mothership is still in. It just creates a coinflippy lategame. But probably also some massive changes to the mothership, so we'll see.
Does anyone know which units got removed now?

It promotes laziness and reduces the overall skill needed for macro. It is such a minor issue and we should welcome anything that makes people better/more aware, with out doing things automatically. It does not move the works for you or tell you how many is to many. It actually DOES tell you how many is too many because it tells you if you are oversaturated. And one of the basic skills of economy management is being able to gauge your saturation for yourself... This is not that far off from giving you your own unit count tab.
people are seriously complaining about this out of everything else in HoTS? seriously?
dude, it's not that big of a deal. it's not even that hard to count workers anyway. this new features just saves you the time of having to double-click/box on workers to count them... it's seriously not that big of a deal at all and it will not gauge any kind of skill. you're not gonna magically get out of gold and go straight to plat/diamond just because you can now easily count your worker saturation -_-
as for the current HoTS build, im not going to even try to talk about it because i know for a fact alot will get changed from its current build. nothing will be the same. the only think i will say is that i hope they increase locust move speed, they seem slow as hell off creep. im loving how fast zergs are now especially the hydra. this is how the real swarm should be, very fast, very mobile, and all over the map. im happy about the changes, but like i said alot of stuff will change.

Oh yeah, and that game looked like a lot of fun. Right now I'm pretty optimistic about the beta.

Would be great to see some kind of revamp on the battlecruiser, make it a battlestation who can spawn MMM and give the floating station a decent range, kinda like the tempest but since it is a battle-station it should have a pretty massive splash. Should not be able to mass them though, Limit should be at 15 BS at one time and the cost should be pretty high, lets say 300-150.
|
So terrans get 0 micro units. The warhound = 1a unit. The battle hellion = 1a unit. Then there is the burrowed mine.
Why not add units that can be microed, blizzard? Doesn"t that make the game much more fun to watch + harder to play?
|
From a pure spectator perspective I like lot of the changes that were showcased in the battle report because it seems like battles tend to be longer and you cannot predict the outcome 5 second after the first shot was fired. Problematic was to me the Oracle, Protoss seemed to get a massive advantage by using it frequently but you as the spactator thought the zerg was winning and suddenly, just because of a single action every 60 seconds or so, the Protoss was ahead. I really like the idea of a economy harrassing unit but the Oracle felt a bit weird to me when watching this game. The Tempest was a bit boring, a bit like a flying Colossus, the carrier is way more interesting to watch.

Are they taking any units OUT? or just adding tons of units?

That's the most random suggestion I've ever heard. The current late game battlecruiser will find it's place along with a late game terran mech army in HotS for sure. Yamato cannon + tanks + battle hellions + warhounds sounds like it could counter almost any late game protoss composition fairly easily.

Blizzard adds more micro units to terran: rabblerabblerabble why does terran have to micro even more so than every other race now?
Blizzard doesn't add more micro units to terran: rabblerabblerabble why is there not enough terran micro in this game?

I'm cautiously optimistic. Hopefully this will lead to a BW-esque state of "everything is overpowered, so the game is balanced"
I mean terrans get mini-nukes that can hit ground and air at T1.5, protoss gets to shove their units all over the map and freeze minerals, and zergs get to rip siege tanks and colossus out of the ground while forcing detection with swarm hosts.
Blizzard can still ruin it by nerfing everything into the ground or taking out everything interesting, but so far this excites me way more than the WoL footage did in early 2010.
|
So after rewatching the battle report few times I can say I like it a lot. It's not longer big ball vs big ball, every race seem to have some (at first sight) broken unit/ability, but it seems those units balances each other out (like in BW). I even really like the 22 range tempest, and I dont even play protoss. I'm so looking forward to release!!!
|
Looks cool TBF. Protoss and Zerg have some cool toys with good micro potential.
Now for Terran, give me 2 supply, 70 dmg tanks and we have a deal.

Terrans additions looking quite boring compared to Z and P..
