Alex is verbose, and you owe it to yourself (and the rest of us) to read the statement in its entirety. Remember, when making comments/claims to provide proper evidence, facts etc. Arguments based on incorrect assumptions, facts and straw men, will be dealt with swiftly. If in doubt, PM a mod or ask IRC. Do NOT spread misinformation, when in doubt, check your sources. In short, be smart. 1. blah blah blah talking myself up so I look good blah blah blah 2. Ok, what we have been waiting to see. Well said and I like the fact you took time to insure it was a legit thing that happened. It does suck seeing a pro get kicked off a top level team but I don't feel sorry for him. 3. Didn't want to read more blah. Just skipped it.

Did we seriously just lose one of the nicest personalities in the scene because you idiots couldn't stop crying? I'm all for action when the time is right like against clearly hateful comments, Limbaugh, but when someone is just obviously cursing someone out it has nothing to do with race. teamliquid.net took the Orb replay, and looked at it carefully. `That seems to be done right -- ' he began. `You're holding it upside down!' Alex Garfield interrupted. `To be sure I was!' teamliquid.net said gaily, as he turned it round for him. `I thought it looked a little queer. As I was saying, that seems to be done right -- though I haven't time to look it over thoroughly just now -- and that shows that there are three hundred and sixty-four days when you might cast Starcraft 2 -- ' `Certainly,' said Alex Garfield. `And only one for nerd rage, you know. There's nigger for you!' `I don't know what you mean by "nigger,"' Alex Garfield said. teamliquid.net smiled contemptuously. `Of course you don't -- till I tell you. I meant "gg wp"' `But "nigger" doesn't mean "gg wp,"' Alex Garfield objected. `When I use a word,' teamliquid.net said in rather a scornful tone, `it means just what I choose it to mean -- neither more nor less.' `The question is,' said Alex Garfield, `whether you can make words mean so many different things.' `The question is,' said teamliquid.net, `which is to be master - - that's all.' Alex Garfield was too much puzzled to say anything, so after a minute teamliquid.net began again. `They've a temper, some of them -- particularly verbs, they're the proudest -- adjectives you can do anything with, but not verbs -- however, I can manage the whole of them! Impenetrability! That's what I say!' `Would you tell me, please,' said Alex Garfield `what that means?` `Now you talk like a reasonable child,' said teamliquid.net, looking very much pleased. `I meant by "impenetrability" that we've had enough of that subject, and it would be just as well if you'd mention what you mean to do about Idra, as I suppose you don't mean to stop here all the rest of your life.' `That's a great deal to make one word mean,' Alex Garfield said in a thoughtful tone. `When I make a word do a lot of work like that,' said teamliquid.net, `I always contact its sponsors.' `Oh!' said Alex Garfield. He was too much puzzled to make any other remark.

I also hope that Orb bounces back, we've all made our share of mistakes - not quite like this one but.... =)

You can get punched in the teeth and be brought back to reality. I know you don't get outside much, but get a clue. I use it all the time, in a friendly way, whatever being the skin color of my relative. "You can get punched in the teeth" Is a terrible argument, you can also get hit in the teeth if people dont like your face, your skin color, or if you dont want to share your cigarettes. Like you just said "Get a clue".

Frankly, this precedent is one of the reasons I'm literally embarrassed to call myself a gamer in front of some people. We've got to behave better. I feel the same way. I can't wait until gaming culture grows up.

If EG feels that they have core values then they should also look into sportsmanship as one of their values. I wonder what Alex feels of IdrA's behavior where it seems like his behavior is encouraged by some of the community when I feel like it shouldn't be. IdrA also does it during largely spectated matches, not only during his ladder games (although, his stream gets a big audience as well). IdrA has used inappropriate languages before in chat and commonly not "gg" which symbolizes sportsmanship gesture.

If you want this industry taken seriously than you have to hold it to similarly serious standards. If an ESPN broadcaster was found to have PUBLICLY ranted using racial slurs would they still be in the job? Nope, the guy who wrote the Chink in the Armor headline about Jeremy Lin lost his job, and now so did Orb. Fair is fair. These are the standards in the real world, when you are a paid representative of a company and sponsors who have an image to protect. This is the perfect example. To all the teens getting up in arms about adults cracking down on cursing, look at what happens outside of your little gaming world...

You honestly don't see how your post at least sort of gives off that impression? You say no one has even discussed defeaturing someone for saying "faggot" on their streams. So it would be fair to say that TeamLiquid at least doesn't find "faggot" unacceptable, right? If it were unacceptable, certainly TeamLiquid wouldn't highlight people saying it on their front page.

Just a note. I don't condone said language, but I also agree with many that this is an overreaction due to sponsors being contacted. If anything Orb would have been warned and given one final chance. If anything remotely bad happens with him than he is out. I only pointed out that there are professions where it is perfectly acceptable to say. Also that millions of people listen to the music with the words in it.

Its really backwards that people are willing to accept the fact that words can have different meaning depending on context when the situation involves black comedians or rappers using "nigger". But when a white guy uses the word its automatically assumed racist because now we have all seem to forgotten the meaning of context. I agree except for the part about rappers using the word "nigger." They say "nigga" And Orb's context WAS meant to be hurtful to the person he said it to. (granted, the person probably wasn't black) ....now I feel racist for assuming blacks don't play Starcraft
