You want a real challenge you say? Try this one:
Red XIII from Final Fantasy VII
Who does not know him? He is your fluffy companion, and a really wise one too.
Main focus : Hand to hand combat, Sneak, Destruction (Fire) Race : Khajit. But you have to use the skin that looks just like RedXIII, and call him RedXIII. Statistics : 1/1/1 (magicka/health/stamina). I just do not know, it depends on how you make him. Secondary focus : Illusion, Alchemy, Enchanting Gameplay: RedXIII attacks with his bare hands, so the only armor allowed is heavy armor gauntlets for the "Fist of Steel" perk. Use sneak to kill silently with your hands, use fire runes to set traps and illusion only for the invisibility and fear spells (your ROAR terrifies everyone!). Follower: Does any follower look like Cloud? In that case, give him the biggest sword you might find. Shouts: Animal allegiance, the time shout for slow motion martial art kills and of course, your allmighty ROAR, the AoE fear.
Tell us how it goes ^^

The Man's Man build
Main focus : Heavy Armor, Block Race : Kajeet Statistics : Only health Secondary focus : lock picking Essential Perks : - Quick reflexes - Fists of Steel - Elemental protection
Weapons : None, don't be a pussy and pick up a weapon. You use a shield in one hand and your fist in the other.
Armor : Only heavy, if it hurts to wear and slows you down then put that shit on.
Follower : Only one man in skyrim can handle this build at one time, anyone following you will be killed instantly by the badassness. It's not nice to kill good people so don't have anyone follow you for their sake.
Stone : Warrior
Gameplay General Tips : Play on master
Can't use dragon souls but must kill every dragon you see. If you need to use a different shout then don't do this build. There are two types of people in skyrim, the Man's man and people who bitch and make excuses. Don't be a bitch.
No thief skill aside from lock picking for convenience.
No mage skills
Always help people, except jerks. Smack jerks around until they back off.
Smithing can only be used to improve hand armor. No enchanting aside from +hand damage on gloves/ring.
Never use sneak, ever. Even in the thief guild missions. Be loud and proud, if you have to crush a few skulls to get past the guards then do it. Also remember to be a gentleman. If you have to run around jumping and not attack then do so, just don't kill people that you don't have to. Basically, don't kill good people, they're good ya know?
Learn every weapon/monsters AI so you can get in, jab a couple times and get out. Never use power attacks, block at the last second possible.
Battles will take forever if there's more than 5 enemies. I suggest getting to high ground and shouting them off the edge.
This build you have to be x10 more cunning than any thief build. You do little to no damage so use the environment in all ways to help you. Glitch mages behind rocks so you can fight the melee guys. Shout people off cliffs. Perma-bash and drink stamina potions on mages that one hit you with spells. You may have to fight dirty but its right in their face so its their fault if they fall for it, no?
This is the only build i've been doing. Level 43 now and put a ton of time into the game. You'll level insanely slow. The only two skills you use are block and heavy armor. Don't expect to get to level 20 fast. Once you get the hang of it, it's an amazing way to play. Combat feels super fluid, they'll do a power attack you move and get two hits in. When they normal attack you can get a hit in and then block just before they hit, if you're slow then you get hit. On master expect to take 2-3 power hits if that. Save often and get skilled. Once you take down an elder dragon alone with your mitts you'll truly understand this build.

I'm almost done my first character and was thinking of what to play as in my next run. I was planning something like a Paladin, but with the twist of using Mage Armor perks instead. My plan was:
-Play as Nord to get the 50% reduction in frost damage -Alteration: make sure to Mage Armor and Magic Resistance -One-handed: thinking of dual wielding Maces -Enchanting: to eventually reduce Alteration magic costs to 0, magic/frost/fire resist, unsure about this so far because I don't know what armor/clothes I can wear if I want the Mage Armor Perk -Restoration: random heals?
Has anyone done a play through with a similar character? I'd love to hear your thoughts, especially about how to spread out health/magicka/stamina points.

I have the same problem, every time a thread opens ( that will likely get closed ) there's like 20 people commenting on how the thread should be closed, seriously if you think that, awesome, but you are no mod and there's no reason to comment on it.

protip: hit the dragon with your sword until it dies.
but on a more serious note here's a quest to get a remarkably good helmet (or should I say "masque", hehheh) early in the game.
1. Get to at least level 10 2. Go to falkreath 3. talk to the blacksmith, ask about his wiener (dog) 4. he gives you some meat to lure the dog 5. go to the road in the north of the town and drop the meat around where the road forks (I don't know if the location is extremely important but this is where I dropped the meat and it worked) 6. dog comes up and talks to you, do what the dog says. continue to follow the prompts by the quest UNTIL 7. don't kill the dog. you get the "Masque of Clavicus Vile," a heavy armor helmet
it's really good. It improves speech, magic regeneration and has a really good armor value. I used it on my orcish brute character and it's the best helmet you can get in terms of raw point value until you start finding the priest masks and ebony/daedric armor.

Pretty much breaks the game and makes it really boring because I can't die anymore and I just 1-2 shot everything. Fortify health potions sell for 1500 gold each which makes it pointless to loot anything other then alchemy reagents. I'm probably just going to wait for some good mods to come out before I do another playthough.
I had more fun on my first playthough with a sneak backstab\archer build, the thieves guild and dark brotherhood quest lines were well done. omg this is how powerful i want my toon to become! i am also investing in alchemy, enchant, and smithing. But for alchemy and enchant what is the fastest way to increase their levels? Also which perks did you take in each tree? Thanks!
For enchanting i got 5x enchanter, insightful enchanter, corpus enchanter, and extra effect. For alchemy I got 5x alchemist, physician, and benefactor. The rest of my perks went into heavy armor and 1 handed.
To level up enchanting I collected and bought all the soulstones I could find, you can steal a lot from the college at winterhold. Get a weapon that has soultrap on it and fill up all the stones as you go though dungeons and on all the animals you see. then enchant the iron daggers you made from smithing with the most expensive enchant you have so that you can resell all the daggers for a profit. Also enchant rings and neckpieces and sell those too. The master enchanting trainer is in the temple of dibella in markarth.
To level up alchemy I collected all the ingredients I saw in the early game and stored them in my house at whiterun. Then I bought all of the reagents from the potion shop in whiterun and started to make the most expensive potions. giants toes + wheat make a really valuable fortify health potion. Basically just make expensive potions until you run out of ingredients things like invisibility, paralyze, slow, magicka regen, stamina regen, damage stamina/magicka regen all sell for a lot. Enchanting to make a set of alchemy gear will increase the value of your potions a lot and level you up faster. Eventually the potions you make become really valuable and you can make a ton of gold off them. the master alchemy trainer is in the darkbrotherhood and can level you up to 90.
Alchemy makes by far the most gold of the three profs, and also takes the longest to level so I would recommend using gold to buy skill ups for alchemy. Once you have all three profs maxed you can make 25%~ enchanting potions which you use to make better alchemy gear, then use alchemy gear to make better enchanting potions. repeat until you have 29% x 4 alchemy gear and 32% enchanting potions. You can then make 130% blacksmithing potions and 29% x 4 blacksmithing gear. You can enchant 47% one handed and 29 to heavy armor on several pieces. the rest is up to your preference. At this point your character is god mode and can just 1-2 shot his way though the game. If mages still give you a hard time you can make 97% resist potions. I made a breton for 25% resist magic + I got the 15% resist magic buff from temple at riften so its impossible to get one shot by anything.

That's pretty good tips Trajan, but I have a problem leveling alchemy... It takes making like 30 potions to get the next level point (it seems to level up so much slower than enchanting or smithing) and I never gather enough ingredients to make more than like 20 potions at a time. So my smithing is at 90, enchanting is at like 60, and alchemy is at like 30...
What is the best way to gather ingredients and have enough resources to actually pump out a ton of potions to level alchemy???

Just keep waiting 48 hours for their stocks to refill. I would clear out stocks at whiterun, riften, and darkbrotherhood then sell all my potions after i cleared out their stocks. Markarth also has an alchemy dealer that carriers a lot of ingredients but I didnt notice this until after I leveled to 100.

Ah I see never thought about that or new the re-spawn cycle. What specific stores are recommended for buying Ingredients?Seems to me they always either A) have nothing to buy or B) have nothing but shit ingredients.

edit : sry pls delete
edit 2 : using this for another question instead!
does dragonhide stack with anything ? (standard armor / ebonyflesh etc)
30 secs seems very short tho :s

Sharpshooter/Sniper
Main focus : Archery & Stealth Race : Wood Elf / Khajit / Argonian Statistics : 0/3/1 (magicka/health/stamina) Secondary focus : Light Armor & Lockpicking Essential Perks : - Eagle Eye - Steady Hand - Overdraw - Deadly Aim - Light Foot Weapons : Your main should be something like an Elven/Glass Bow with dual elemental enchantments - Fire & Ice seems perfect. If you get good at enchanting, you can squeeze out around 320 damage from a shot, without any of the bonuses from the stealth perks. Keep your back up as either dual daggers (Orichish) or a combo of sword and shield (Elven/Glass). Good enchants for the dual daggers is "life steal" (health absorb) on both and one elemental for each - left hand Ice, right hand Fire. Shield is good with health boost and one-handed skill buff or health boost plus magic resistance. The sword should be enchanted with life steal and fire. Armor : Light ! That's the key. Either Elven or Glass would be great for you. If you manage to scrap up enough blacksmithing (highly doubtful), you can try sneak in a set of Light Dragonscale Armor. Good enchants are Archery for the helm, Health + Stamina regen for the torso, Archery + Lockpicking for the gauntlets and Sneak + Muffle for the boots. Follower : Vorstag is perfect. Faendal is actually pretty good as well. Stone : The Thief. Simple as that. You pick it up early and stick with it thru out. Gameplay General Tips : When exploring, keep sneaking. You'll often catch your pray before they can see you and the bow + sneak will result in one-shot-one-kill quite often. The only problem I have is when I'm with the dual daggers. I pretty much need to access my inventory every time my one-shot-one-kill move fails, because I have to equip my daggers properly. Nothing major to worry thou. You'll have enough health pool to take damage by dragons and giants once you reach level 20 and above. Besides, your light armor should offer decent protection by default. I've often found myself in situations facing multiple enemies at once, usually killing 2 or 3 just with the bow and arrows from distance and from there on, I massacre the rest pretty easly with the dual dagger power strikes (hold down mouse left and right buttons at the same time). Just wanted to throw in my own experience that if your goal is to be a sniper, then you want to up the sneak to at least 60+. The idea is that enemies would not know of your whereabouts even if your first arrow didn't one shot kill. Assuming that you've maxxed out on the archery perks (minus Bullseye), and have enough sneak perks (Sneak, Deadly Aim, Muffled Movement), you would be dealing x3 (plus crit hits occrasionally) on every arrow you shoot simply because you would remain sneaked the whole battle. You can use Aura Whisper shout ability with this combination. With this, you can find out where your enemies are beforehand (the shout will not alert enemies either). Currently, my archery is at 85 and sneak at 81, and it's getting really ridiculous. Every battle is a joke. The bosses are jokes (I simply sneak attack from distance 4-5 times in a row and they're dead - takes me about 4-5 seconds). And I'm just using an upgraded (Legendary) ebony bow with zero enchant (my blacksmith is at 98). Like I've said - it's a pretty imba build that one :D Was using unrefined Elven Bow till I had around 70 in both Archery and Sneak, and I was still one-shooting most of my enemies, bosses included. When you get to 100&100, you can expect to 1-shot Giants easly. When I was able to make a sneak attack at a Dragon, it usually left him with just about 40% of his life pool remaining. I didn't included the Aura Whisper shout coz I didn't had it discovered yet at the time I wrote that build. But it's been working in Oblivion flawlessly, so I thought I give it a shot here as well and it seemed successful :D Thanks for the response !

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet but my friend found this out and I can confirm. Putting buckets on top on NPC's heads blocks their vision and you can basically steal whatever you want, wherever you want.
Note, putting a bucket on someone's head is harder than just stealing, positioning the bucket upside down is a bigger challenge.
On November 28 2011 17:38 Golgotha wrote: quick question. i just want to clarify how the level of the 18 different skills basically work. Having skills does give you some benefit, although the benefit is often not defined/doesn't tell you what it is. For speech, higher skill makes intimidates and persuades more likely to succeed (I have literally never had a bribe fail, although I'm an Imperial so IDK). Points in speech perks are completely unnecessary unless you're going for some kind of RP-thing because one path gives you more gold from shopkeepers (like gold is a problem) and the other makes the already-cake speech system even more of a joke, I guess bribing guards could be nice.
Weapon skills like bow just give you more damage for that weapon, even without my overdraw perks, bows do way more damage than anything else when I have 85 bow skill and my second highest weapon skill is at 40. More skill in destro does not increase damage in destro, it does something else but exactly how skills effect spell schools is a bit of a mystery and buggy as shit right now so someone else might have a better understanding of that then I do.

is it worth leveling non-combative stats like anything other than magic/stamina/etc. (aka. speech/alchemy/or even armor talent tree)?
playing an elder scrolls game for the first time here heh

Leveling up alchemy/enchanting/smithing and getting the perks allows you to completely break the game. By using them together you can create weapons/armor/potions that are ridiculously powerful.

Kinda funny how the patch says it fixed long term play issues for PS3 and today mine froze 3 times in about 3 hours where it had never froze before for the first 2 weeks I owned the game...
Is anyone else's freezing?
