Hmm..wonder what the walkover is about.

with a 1-8 record it wouldn't be surprising if we have another withdrawn player in softball...

Idra's not playing today? :O

wow. if its a no-show/withdrawal, it just makes me angry. yeah maybe you have no chance to win and get into the playoffs. deal with it, man up, and play your games. do teams in other sports just no-show their games if they've been eliminated from playoff contention? no they keep playing. argghhhhh

People in other sports are physically there and playing for an audience the majority of the time. I honestly can't blame them when they are already eliminated and just don't feel like showing up when it's just them playing from home. To them I'm sure it feels like there is basically nothing on the line anymore, so why bother playing it out. They shouldn't do it and should get shit for it but, I don't blame them at all.

Dont players in NASL get paid just for making it into the season? Withdrawing should cost you your prize money.

Nope. Only get money if you make it to the Live Event(Top 16).

Quite the contrary. They have to make a deposit (200 $ or smth) that they might not get back should they not fulfill their obligations.
I feel like getting rid of my thoughts about this at this point:
The whole extremely top heavy price money distribution of NASL (only the first 16 get any money) is not very intelligent. It does not give any incentive to players that have fallen behind to continue playing their best. Thats why games become worse and worse or get even completely cancelled towards the end of the season. Also, this distribution means that the majority of players i NASL does not get any money despite having invested a shitload of time.
The solution to that would be so easy. They would just have to pay a fixed amount (lets say 100 $) to players for every match they win during the group stage. That way every single match would be meaningful for players and therefore for the viewers. And it would ensure that nearly all players would get some money relative to their performance. As there are 140 matches played during the group stage (if I calculated correctly), that would merely cost 14.000 $ of the overall 100.000 $ prize pool.
But obviously they dont do such reasonable stuff, because they have to hand out the overall winner 40.000 $, so that they have a more "spectacular" number at the end.

Well I think Softball & Fenix are playing for an audience. There are people watching. And there is something on the line, the possible relegation from the league. Players want professionalism in paying them fast after the tournaments(which NASL has done as I understand), I as fan and also I would imagine tournament organizers want professionalism from players to play the matches that are scheduled. IMO this just gives bad picture to fans & sponsors. Only acceptable excuse to me is not being able to physically play (travelling) and not being allowed to re-schedule.
