Hmm..wonder what the walkover is about.
|
with a 1-8 record it wouldn't be surprising if we have another withdrawn player in softball...
|
Idra's not playing today? :O
|
|
wow. if its a no-show/withdrawal, it just makes me angry. yeah maybe you have no chance to win and get into the playoffs. deal with it, man up, and play your games. do teams in other sports just no-show their games if they've been eliminated from playoff contention? no they keep playing. argghhhhh

People in other sports are physically there and playing for an audience the majority of the time. I honestly can't blame them when they are already eliminated and just don't feel like showing up when it's just them playing from home. To them I'm sure it feels like there is basically nothing on the line anymore, so why bother playing it out. They shouldn't do it and should get shit for it but, I don't blame them at all.

walkovers need to stop; it's unacceptable that so many players are not playing their matches.
|
Kiwi won't disapoint me today, i know it. epic matches incoming. same goes for socke.

I'm leaning towards Morrow. Kiwi's in a big slump vZ at the moment.

Dont players in NASL get paid just for making it into the season? Withdrawing should cost you your prize money.

Nope. Only get money if you make it to the Live Event(Top 16).
|
Man so many withdraws in recent weeks, wow. Well at least we have KiWi vs MorroW!!
|
On November 05 2011 08:47 jamesr12 wrote: Dont players in NASL get paid just for making it into the season? Withdrawing should cost you your prize money. No they dont.
Quite the contrary. They have to make a deposit (200 $ or smth) that they might not get back should they not fulfill their obligations.
I feel like getting rid of my thoughts about this at this point:
The whole extremely top heavy price money distribution of NASL (only the first 16 get any money) is not very intelligent. It does not give any incentive to players that have fallen behind to continue playing their best. Thats why games become worse and worse or get even completely cancelled towards the end of the season. Also, this distribution means that the majority of players i NASL does not get any money despite having invested a shitload of time.
The solution to that would be so easy. They would just have to pay a fixed amount (lets say 100 $) to players for every match they win during the group stage. That way every single match would be meaningful for players and therefore for the viewers. And it would ensure that nearly all players would get some money relative to their performance. As there are 140 matches played during the group stage (if I calculated correctly), that would merely cost 14.000 $ of the overall 100.000 $ prize pool.
But obviously they dont do such reasonable stuff, because they have to hand out the overall winner 40.000 $, so that they have a more "spectacular" number at the end.

Well I think Softball & Fenix are playing for an audience. There are people watching. And there is something on the line, the possible relegation from the league. Players want professionalism in paying them fast after the tournaments(which NASL has done as I understand), I as fan and also I would imagine tournament organizers want professionalism from players to play the matches that are scheduled. IMO this just gives bad picture to fans & sponsors. Only acceptable excuse to me is not being able to physically play (travelling) and not being allowed to re-schedule.

2 games and a HoN match?
That's what a regular NASL day looks like now? smh

Wow sick viewer count.
What is happening to NASL?

League concept needs a complete overhaul. It's clear that very few people are tuning in before the finals.
Grand Finals should be good, though.

Goddamn it Sjow, you need to scout your opponent's base to see his tech investment. Stop getting caught with your pants down at the first sight of a colossus.
|
|
anyone notice that sjow never got concussive shells?
|
SjoW not microing marines at all. Still won easily because Socke just didn't have units. Pretty anti-climactic third game imo.
2-1 SjoW

Smart 1-1-1 build from Sjow. Since he skipped siege mode he pushed out a lot earlier than Socke expected, so he didn't chrono out the immortal or stop probe production fast enough. Or Sjow made an uninformed decision and Socke didn't read it.
Either way Liquibet is satisfied. :D
|
no offense to socke but i dont think he can cut it as a pro, he just doesn't have a good enough gamesense i guess is the thing to say? he saw the 1/1/1 coming didn't cut probes, didn't chrono his gates and didn't engage correctly.. idk i just am never impressed with him, hes just average at best

Maybe that is only viewers in twitch.tv stream? If the stream on nasl website is totally different and does not count for those numbers.

sad socke lost
that looked realy like his match against jinro were he overall just made silly stuff. in a german podcast he said to his match against jinro that he had to play it late at night after a long travel (realy tired) with zero to no warmup time in a hotel on a tiny table. so he just played 2 quick allins. i can just imagine something like that happend here as well.

he doesnt impress you but he is certainly not average like you said, he has better results than mana, sase, hasuobs and even whitera. so I dont know why you say he cant cut it as a pro, when he is certainly one of the best eu protoss. I mean sometimes 1-1-1 isnt something that even korean protosses can stop when they see it coming.

Man Kiwi is always entertaining to watch

Kiwikaki is outplaying Morrow in this final engagement but he's so broke that he can't make the few units he would need to finish the game. He might just get overrun.

erh? didnt mana win an IEM very recently..? id say that win alone is more than any of socke's accomplishments plus huk, kiwikaki (kiwi is just personal opinion, not based on his results) and naniwa are better, i cant really comment on whitera or hasuobs being better or worse than him but i do know i still like watching them better than him :D

Agreed. Socke is always under the radar. He's consistently had good results but he just hasn't put together a dominating streak. Definitely one of the top protoss in Europe.

Kiwikaki's army was actually less mobile than Morrow's. Kiwikaki was constantly on the backfoot, trying to defend his new bases. He couldn't get around to attack Morrow's bases anyway, considering how fast speedlings and corruptors are compared to any Protoss ground or air units.

mana did not win iem. also he will certainly stay competitive, maybe not when he fished college and starts working as teacher. While I think that Socke is pretty good, referencing his BW resume isn't a good indicator that he's therefore amazing at SC2. Take a look at Nony/ Tyler.

There's a difference between calling someone the next MC and saying they're not good enough to be a pro-gamer. Socke has won almost 35,000$ in prize money, I'd say he's doing well for himself and he probably isn't going to lose sleep over people like sc14s.

Ugh this is so frustrating to watch. Attack after attack failing yet Morrow can drone and expand behind it.

This caster needs to calm down a little bit. Excitement is good but jesus... slow down man.

Dam Morrow just destroyed, looked so hurt, but the muta switch just abused to much mobility and dismantled Kiwikaki

Exactly o.o I don't understand how Kiwikaki could have caught those mutalisks. Not even blink stalkers or phoenixes can do it.
That made me kind of sad. Kiwikaki was way ahead all game and then the inherent immobility of the race cost him the game.

Socke is a great SC2 player, period. The HoN caster did pretty well too. Stop bashing without a good reason please.

he played okay but to be fair tech switches are one of the strengths of zerg which he used to get the win so really he earned the win.

Well, I guess the game is all about the roll of the dice and the army and not anything to do with economy or tactics.

Seriously? Bottom end? You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. The fact that you compared him to Incontrol really shows how little you know. Also, the number of better Protoss players that are NOT TRAINING IN KOREA is kinda limited. I mean there is Kiwikaki... and that's it. And while Kiwi's games are really exciting to watch, he doesn't really win more games than Socke.

What? When?
He threw away units way too many times, was behind for most of the game, Kiwikaki was outplaying him... and then he just massed mutalisks and speedlings and outran a Protoss player.
I've seen Morrow play "fucking amazing" a bunch of times, and I can't consider this one of those times. Game one showed far better skill from him than game two.

I'm sorry, but KiwiKaKi was ahead both on probes and even/ahead on bases. Yeah, but mid tier by what standards? If you exclude Koreans here, you also have to exclude all korean trained players which eleminates most Tosses that are above Socke in terms of Skill (Nani, SaSe, HuK). MaNa is the only european Toss which consistently shows as good results as Socke while having much more practice. Elfi is also good, but he's not a consistent performer, mainly because he lacks the mechanics. Seriously, tell me more than 3 non-korean Tosses that are way above Socke. There just aren't any.

Also, the number of better Protoss players that are NOT TRAINING IN KOREA is kinda limited. I mean there is Kiwikaki... and that's it. And while Kiwi's games are really exciting to watch, he doesn't really win more games than Socke. i said he was mid tier, and was talking about how the BOTTOM players are starting to slide down and become less competitive so yeah read what i typed first before responding. i wasnt comparing him to incontrol at all.
"Way" above Socke? That's subjective. But Naniwa and HuK were above him even before Korean training. Also, White-Ra is better.
But I don't agree with sc14s's claim that Socke is going to fade away either. He's a mid-tier foreigner pro. He's no HuK, IdrA, or Stephano, but I don't see him fading away anytime soon. He'd still beat people like iNcontrol, Tyler, or Axslav decisively.

So is HoN like WoW, except with small characters?

Or like Diablo with team player vs. player modes.

Is that getting streamed next? Because I might keep it on just to hear the casters say his name. naahhh , I think the most ridiculous name in the HON pro scene is "peterpandam"....wtf ? XD
Hahahaha yeah. I wonder if some of these names are created just to troll the casters. Why not?

Its not only an oversaturation of games but its the meaninglessness of most of them. Hero's already made it to the GF, most guys are 1 game away, etc. There's no money for the regular season, there's no investment, there's no Koreans so the games are mostly just foreigners slap fighting.
All in all I think NASL is going to be the first league to be squeezed out when the SC2 esports pinch hits.

Me neither, but I had to sit through it at the recent IPL in Atlantic City.
It was ridiculously boring.

Think of it this way, sc14s, people probably rate your post quality based on the few posts they've just witnessed similarly to how you judge Starcraft players. Extrapolate based on your hilariously small body of knowledge all you want.

Just voicing my opinion, I'd rather watch pretty much.... any other game other than LoL. I'm sorry maybe its just me.

In case you don't know, basically each player control a hero(they work in the same way as war3 normal heroes, 3 skills plus one ultimate, every level you gain 1 point to put in your skills; Ultimate unlocks at level 6 but you still have to put a point in it to get it), plus you kill creeps which spawn in these 3 lanes to get gold and experience. You also get experience by killing the other team heroes and constructions(3 towers in each lane plus base). If a hero dies, it take some time to respawn; Game ends when the other team main's build(don't remember the name of them in LoL) are killed.

wow ! that was the most messed up ulti spam I have ever seen XD

watchin HoN is fucking hard even if you play it every day...

Nani? Yes. He was on an extreme hot streak prior to departing to Korea (similar to MaNa right now), but Huk? No. Before Huks training in Korea really improved his play, Socke was at least on the same level. He actually was some kind of nemesis to Huk, eliminating him in three major tourneys (DH Winter, Assembly Winter and MLG Dallas 2011), despite PvP being his by far weakest MU. Even today, he has a positive record against him.
His PvT is way stronger and pretty feared in EU (the Bo3 today doesn´t change that), proved by victories in important tourneys over high calibre players like Select, Kas, Brat_OK or Dde (vastly underrated) and even that MU is still below his PvZ.
His PvZ is top notch in EU, I would even go as far and say he is right now the strongest PvZ player residing in Europe (SaSe by the very few games I have seen from him could be on this level). I base that on the victories (since DH Summer) over following zergs:
IdrA Ret MorroW Nerchio (twice) DIMAGA (twice) Darkforce Sheth
The only Zerg, that seems to give him real trouble recently is Stephano (who is on fire lately), but they haven´t played much against each other (one Bo3 and one Bo1 as far as I know).
I´m sorry, but calling Socke a Mid-tier foreigner is disrespectful IMO. A mid-tier foreigner shouldn´t be able to beat all the players I mentioned above. That are far too many to call them upsets or something like that. A mid-tier foreigner shouldn´t be the 6th highest player outside Korea in terms of won price money and have tons of Top 8 or higher finishes in major tournaments (IEM, MLG, DH, Assembly and so on) over the span of more than a year.
Socke IS a Top foreigner, capable of beating pretty much any non korean player, if he brings out his A-game. This isn´t even much of an opinion, because he has done it before.

I really, really like Breaky as a caster. Would be cool to see more of him in SC2, even if he hasn't the biggest knowledge of the game. That is true for so many casters, and he brings quite some entertainment at least.
|
So is there a HoN game coming up on this stream in 10 mins?
and really , morrow getting sencored
|
Tuning in in game one MorroW vs Kiwikaki i was wondering about the voice of the 2nd caster. After it .. haha .. i had to smile cause it was actually Breaky well known in the HON community.
Even though he had not much knowledge in the game itself on that lvl of play it was really cool to hear play by play caststyle in sc2. i enjoyed the cast although im not really into gretorp but thats my opinion. anyone know if there are any further plans of him getting more involved into sc2 since hon is with the release of dota2 a very risky thing to rely on.

Oh, and he got top 2 secured? Sweet.

8 pages? That's like 100% more than usual, sup? I'm just here to check the scores and I'm pleased with 3/3 (2/2). NASL is good for our liquibets (which is not a good thing for spectators).

Deal with it, he's Swedish.

NASL became quite the frankenstein: calls itself north american, has a majority of european players (and audience, the rerun today had almost twice the viewers) but can't be global because lacks the premier koreans.
Still IPL "events" aren't doing much better, the format of a regular league as a whole is giving way to the once-in-a-while live event. We require additional hype.

I find it hilarious that he doesn't give a shit about censorship.

I don't really care about the results before playoff stage, people who are either above or below playoff level are known since day one anyways.
The only thing interesting at this stage is the drama (fabricated or genuine, I don't care) that surrounds no-shows and withdrawals. I'd really like some info on SoftBall regarding that issue, but I'm not going to watch two hours of Gretorp and HoN to get it. Could anyone fill me in ?
