It really helps if you guys are on TS, like everyone else. I'll explain in depth for you though.
editing...
The world file was corrupted due to world guard truncating the chunks the wrong way + a laggy server which led to corrupted chunks. We pretty much thought our world was a goner (and the work we did) but a few TL community members here had some neat plugins that did the trick.
So now we can start fresh without wiping everything (all the starting cities and towns were saved) on the new server. Everyone is literally starting fresh though in regards to themselves and their faction, it was decided by a vote of over 40 people last night on TS that the most fair thing to do would be to allow everyone equal footing again when the server goes up (the new server, that is)
FAQ: What server is up now? The old one, we're letting people explore, kill and maim each other, have a good time, before the new server is up. Nothing is being carried over, so have fun.
Will I have xx on the new server? No. Everyone is starting fresh. We nearly unanimously voted for this.
Will I lose xx? Yes, you and everyone else. See question above.
When will the new server be up? I'm not giving a specific time. "When its ready". I'm pushing to still be able to release this before our original date, the 11th. It could be up today, tomorrow, or on the weekend.
How will we know when? I make sure to post it here first, and TS second. Everyone will know at the same time, because the server insta-fills with 50 players. This new server can support more than that though, but due to a quick talk with Serejai (who has more experience) were going to keep it at 50, to ensure it running smooth. The new server hardware is miles ahead of the current, but still needs to go through testing before we up the player limit.

you should really edit the op since it says
Ok guys, due to everyone in the TS bugging me (j/k j/k) I threw up the old-laggy-server for everyone to build on until the new server goes up tomorrow afternoon. The server world will be copied over tomorrow to the new server, so build your places until then.
lol

There's no reason to push to get it up. Just take your time and get everything perfected for the Oct. 11th date. ^^

I thought about that. But now that everyone has had a taste of factions, everyone is even more excited to play.
Rest assured, I'm not starting this thing up until Im sure the server were on is actually ready this time around.

One of the TL guys yesterday enjoyed his time (albeit laggy) time so much he decided to write a personalized guide for all of us.
His native language is not English, so bear with him. Thanks Rit4lin!

I made a short guide to explain the basics. I see that a lot of players have concers about their territory getting destroyed
The basic goal of the game is to not die. You can start aliances(called factions) with other players. You can claim chunks of land to build a base. You can go to war with other factions and claim their land to steal their supplies. I've made a set of statements that should help you to understand the basics. Also watch irninja's videoguide.
Statements: - Every player has power - if you kill someone your power goes up - your max power is 20 - your min power is -10 (amiright) - you get 1 power for every online hour
- You can join factions and group with other people (You can also create a faction for you and your friends with /f create <factionname>) - The power of the faction is the sum of the power of all it's offline and online members - People who are ranked as mod can claim land for a faction - Land parts are fixed 16x16 chunks - The chuck has an infinite verticle size - Claiming land lowers the power from a faction (it takes power from your factions power pool) - You can only claim land if you have enough power - You can only claim another faction's land if your faction's power is higher than theirs - You have to start claiming land at the border of a faction you cannot claim something in the center of their territory - You take 50% damage on your own territory (defenders advantage) - You can only destroy block (or open chests) on your own or on nutral territory - You get a message if you enter or leave a faction's territory (remember they do double damage if you are on their land) - You get a message if your land is claimed by another faction - You have to declare war to a faction before you can claim their land. The other faction will be warned that you declared war - Land doesn't belong to a player it belongs to a faction (not to the player who claimed it)
- You need to eat food. Without food you die(kindoff) - You'll only go down to half health (4 hearts) if you are hungry - The spawnrate for animals is minimal (not usefull for food production) - You'll need to get food from mushroom soup and other farmable products (because its more fun and you're able to steal eachothers shit)
- Day and night are mutch mutch mutch mutch longer than normaly. - The spawnrate for enemy mobs are mutch higher than normal - Creepers do AOE damage but do not destroy blocks - Mobs drop money, you can use money to buy items at npc villages - There are way more items than in normal minecraft - Villages are neutral terrain and not PVP enabled
- The mapsize is limited (but still very very very very huge) you cannot leave the map
Some examples:
Your territory can only be claimed if the other faction has more power than you. Since claiming a lot of territory requires power you cannot simply claim an entire faction. Because the defending faction has defenders advantage it's insanely hard to claim their entire territory when users are online. You could claim territory if they are offline. But remember that the power of your faction goes down because you hare owning more land. An thus your territory can be claimed by other smaller factions.
Lets say your faction has 10 players and all of them are attacking and claiming land. Your faction's power could be around 10 or 20 while your max power would be 200. This gives you a huge disadvantage agains a 2 or 3 player faction with 20 or 30 power because they probaply have a small base and mutch power because they dont die.
Smaller factions can and will get killed(masacred) quickly but watch out. They may have started an alliance with a bigger faction.
Other information: You can go to the spawnville by typing /spawn You can go to your faction's home by typing /f home You can find all these command with /f help <pagenumber> The server saves every 30 minutes which gives a small lagboost
Note: If you claim another factions territory (for instance their castle) you can steal their shit and kill al their players but you don't need to destroy everything. So please refrain from doing so because its useless.

Thanks for the guide Rit4lin

Nice guide Rit4lin. Can't wait for the server to go live. ^^.

The new server still not up?
|
When the new server goes live, If i streamed (kind of like casting) all of the latest developments. Would you guys be interested in that?
Like did a daily showcase of all of the wars, buildings, castles, etc.
Poll: If i casted a daily segment of the progress of the many factions?I'd love to see that. (34) 83% Eh. It might be neat, but Im playing too much to care. (6) 15% Don't stream it at all. (1) 2% 41 total votes Your vote: If i casted a daily segment of the progress of the many factions? (Vote): I'd love to see that. (Vote): Eh. It might be neat, but Im playing too much to care. (Vote): Don't stream it at all.

Like a news round up of the day's important events?
fuck.yes.
|
I think that would be pretty fun, it would actually help a good deal with connecting factions and making people more aware of one another. Create a greater sense of unity.
It would go a long way in making it feel like one big server rather then a lot of players sticking to their own places. There is always that risk that people stick to their own corner too much but if they learn about other players/factions that can be prevented.

fuck.yes. I think a livestream would be terribly boring. But ya, a short news segment type thing would be pretty fun, either written or recorded. And ofc an updated version of the map every day to look at.
|
I think some version of a news write-up or power rank of the different factions is critical. That way everyone who is playing knows what is going on. I've never played Eve before, but some of the stories of pvp sound amazing. If we could get something like that going, I think everyone would enjoy it.
|
Ok. I'll do that then. Once the server goes up (sooner than later) I'll focus in on all of the creations you guys are developing together, and the wars that are ongoing. I'll be sure to add some drama to it.

Not originally. How unfair would that be if you could get everything there right in the beginning of the game?
