To ensure this thread won't be closed, you must adhere to several a number of simple rules; - Please use spoilers when quoting a post with pictures and/or videos.
- When posting large quantities of media (pictures or videos), please begin spoilering after the first piece. Grouping related videos in the same spoilers & labeling is recommended.
- No reposting of old material unless justified
- Posting any material with little or no relevent discussion accompanying it
- No passion-induced flaming of each other because 'x said y sucked' etc.
- Keep the expression hate of music individuals/groups to a minimal level
- No 'pagetopping' in any form whatsoever, as it constitutes spam equal to posts similar to 'first'.
- No vulgar fan fics or wet dream stories. It is creepy, weird, and it dehumanizes the people who you are here to celebrate/discuss.
- Normal posting standards that you find throughout the rest of the site still apply and will be enforced more strictly from here forward (2012/03/11)
Due to the poor nature of this thread in the past, temporary two-day bans will occur more than often if people slip up. |
Reposts are an entirely separate matter.
There's only three things that need to be moderated more heavily: 1.) Reposts (notably stuff already posted within days and songs like Gee that have been posted 5000 times. 2.) Mindless spam (see the "dat yejin" spam above) 3.) Image macros (responding with only a picture of someone making a face, e.g. Jessica)
Everything else is copacetic.
Moreover, it seems every few months a mod walks by and decides everything that's being done in the thread is inherently wrong and needs to be fixed, rather than asking the active community what they want for the thread.

Sharing links is great, but let's put a little more effort into the posts. Half the stuff worth posting doesn't have discussion value beyond "look what came out." Cheerios product placement. most of it is just copy and pasted off AKP anyways. Or just summarized and then discussed. But with news articles at least it should have discussion, not just "LOOK AT THIS TWITTER PICTURE" or w/e. Video content, especially the thing that Seditary does where he links all the performances, doesn't necessarily but I feel like it was aimed more at the people who run in here, yell "CHECK OUT THIS GEE SONG IT'S GREAT" and then just post it.
If a link is in response to a question, i.e. "can someone help me find this song/MV/picture/etc.?", then a simple linking will be fine.
Seditary's collecting and organizing of multiple performance videos, is also fine as some thought/work is put into it and it does provide some additional content in that it puts them all in a neat package.

i love watching seditary's posts on the performances, saves me a ton of timing looking ^^

Unfortunately, it's not about what the active community wants for this thread. The staff has decided what it finds to be acceptable and not acceptable about this thread in order for it to continue.
Reposts wouldn't be a problem if people actually put content into their posts simply beyond a picture, article or video. If someone has an opinion or thought to share about an old picture, article or video, they can feel free to share that opinion or thought.
Mindless spam or one-liners are a definite no-no, and that's not just in this thread.
Any post that simply contains a link to a picture, video or article, without more, will be unacceptable, which will include image macro posts.

- Well seeing as banned starts with the letter B. Now might not be the best time to be posting. - Eh, frag it. I'll sink with my boat.
Yay, the thread is back! Back starts with the letter B! A lot of good things start with the letter B. + Show Spoiler [Such as...] +
What are some things that you like that start with the letter B?

Mindless spam or one-liners are a definite no-no, and that's not just in this thread. Well we just had a whole series of it and instead of just moderating them the thread was closed with the post "I'm going to wait till some other mod bans them."

I was getting anxiety attacks with this thread gone... glad it's back ^^
Either way, I think it's a little overkill to change some of the image/video rules on what seems to be based on some completely alternative form of spam. We've been posting AKP stuff, lone videos and images for quite a bit now.
Anyway, G.NA's album is pretty good I like most of the songs, however I think Top Girl is one of the lesser songs on the album. Bananas had a good upbeat sound and was enjoyable ^^

So half the thread being an image dump is okay? Might as well just rename the thread then. "Korean Idol Images, Music, and News" and just have there be no discussion, only fanboying and fangirling. Is that what people want? It sure seems that way.

those chain links to the yejin post was funny. the picture, was just amazing. oomg.

This thread has always centered around sharing new things that came up, whether it was a song, a picture, or a random video. If someone decided to comment on it - great! If not, there are dozens, if not hundreds of people, who will enjoy looking at whatever piece of media that was linked. Just because they choose not to say "that was good" or something synonymous doesn't mean it was a "worthless" post.
Moreover, we've had the policy for spoilering every image or video past the first one linked for ages and fully spoilering any media that was linked. Even if nobody "discussed" it, the content remained largely unobtrusive when people followed convention. All you have to do is harshly enforce penalties against those who don't follow convention to prevent "media spam."
This thread has four million views for a reason.

are there any definite rules from the staff to prevent it from closing down? because clearly, the rules that are posted at the top clearly dont work like they were meant to.
|
Is what constitutes discussion going to be moderated as well? If I post a video with the text 'Here's a new video, I thought it was okay' will that be considered appropriate discussion? What if I just write 'have a look see peoples', will that be fine? How is that any different than before?
Will I need to just end up putting meaningless text before everything I post in order to avoid wrath?

I had no idea this was closed, and it worried me. I'm not sure if it's just me, but there have been many slip ups. Maybe the rules would work but I haven't seen any temp bans whatsoever T_T. I love you TL <3 <3

Every time a mod has threatened to close the thread, Chill has come along and told them to stop being ridiculous and just moderate the thread.
The problem is the mods hardly moderate the thread, but then every so often complain that the "thread quality is garbage and needs to be drastically overhauled or we'll close it." There's no shortage of people posting the same thing 2-3 times a week or something like Younha covering Gee from 2 years ago, but since they don't get warned, it just keeps happening. I don't see how you can complain something needs to stop, but then not actually moderate it.
It's not like we haven't had this discussion before: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=98009¤tpage=797#15927 - Sept 6 2010

I'm reminded of when MrCon(I think it was him) was warned in an LR thread for posting a picture with no text. It was a pic of the stream showing one of the Code S girls.
People in the thread complained about his warning, he was confused, and eventually people just kept doing it and never got moderated.
Sometimes text is not required for discussion.

Thankfully this thread is back, it's like my ex-gf went and changed the locks on my house or something the last few days =P
Some badasses on Soshified put together that Japan concert that aired in 3d into 2d and 720p mkv. Here is a link for your downloading pleasure. http://www.mediafire.com/?5588afx349fo2
On twitter earlier G.NA was replying to a tooooooooooooooon of tweets from fans, it was pretty cool. Didn't get any screencaps or anything but she was at it for about an hour or so. First time I've seen any of the idols on twitter actively talking to their fans instead of each other. Hopefully this becomes a trend.
TBH I don't really see a problem with just linking a picture or video. 90% of the time the relevant discussion I would like to post when I do that is along the lines of "Here is a new MV/Teaser" or "Some pictures came out, here they are for you to look at." Writing that out seems a bit redundant when the act of actually posting it serves that purpose.
|
Pretty sure most do respond here and there, but there's too much drama involved with maintaining their perfect image to do it with regularity.

I ended up downloading a 3.5ish gig torrent of it in 1080. (2D of course)
My quota hates me right now, I might be capped in record time this month.
Also I'm excited, just found out Jaekyung is going to be on seven Chuseok specials this year.

I'll chip in with my thoughts since I do frequent this thread.
For the most part it's just to check up on new things or if stuff actually happened. For example what Seditary has been doing the past weeks for all the major performance shows has been amazing. Gives a great index of the songs, I pick out some of my favorites and listen to them. I wouldn't be able to go out of my way to find those really. Also when new songs come up, or new albums, teasers. Breaking news if you will. The situation with Daesung or Taeyeon getting pulled off stage. I feel those are what the core of the thread should be.
The picture spam is a tier below that I would say. While usually pleasant and definitely worth a quick glance. It is sometimes based on nothing or it's old pictures anyway. And by themselves it seems nice but it's almost unending and does take over a big part of the thread or it's ability to be constructive. Birthdays and or special events and or as an accompany to news seem fitting for a picture stream however.
Inqueries would be my final point. It is great people can come in here to ask which songs this was. Or if they have been enjoying a certain artist get referred to other artist with a similar sound.
From the list of bad things. Reposting is incredibly high up. Not only because it's a repost but because of the nature in which it is done. Sometimes it's already posted the page before. And the reaction it creates from what I would call veterans who understandably burst from the stupidity as they have seen it happen way too many times. I feel this is able to get moderated as long as reposts as answers are given more leeway, someone asks a songs, two people answer, both are gonna be a repost of the original and then one of those will be a repost of the other.
Meaningless clutter comments are my biggest frustration and negative point. Someone points a random picture of a female and then it gets qouted 4 times with responses such as GOT DAUMN. *Note: in order to provide real responses I tried to randomly click pages, while the first one or two gave me the terrible responses I desired, I found that there was a majority of good helpful albeit short and quick communication.
I had a 3rd negative point but I forgot a while ago. Have no idea what it was, maybe it's already contained in one of the points written.
As a final plea. The thread in nature is pretty good. Just some of the practices that get frequented are what pull it down. Exept when it's a mindless repost of a newer visitor, adjusting those practices is definitely possible and should be encouraged. It should be a part effort from us, to hold eachother to a certain standard, and from the staff to punish those who deserve it when necesairy.

I need this link asap, unless it's that chinese site that was posted a ways back, then I'll just give up because that was too hard to navigate.
And since everyone is in serious mode: the biggest problem I see are reposts. The irony is that the thread regulars very very rarely repost anything, it's the new people who just recently are getting into K-pop, and want to share the new cool thing they discovered.
Is that bad? I guess it is in a way, but you can't seriously expect someone new to this thread (and probably k-pop in general) to know that the youtube link they're about to post was posted 600 pages ago.
Oh, and the "dat *insert idol name here*" replies are pretty worthless as well, and it's the regulars that do it, so I guess we can cut back on that.
