I would assume that less than half (the typical figure) were using adblock because they were watching for the cause primarily and a lot of people were spamming f5 to force more ads. It is not that everyone is using adblock. A lot of countries don't get the ads. Simple as that. A lot of time when I am watching streams and they are going for an ad. I just don't get to see one (I don't use adblock).
Yeah the 1/2 figure is not of my creation.. it's just something I've heard on stream from a lot of people. So maybe that half they don't receive revenue from are partially adblockers and partially non-adblockers that don't receive ads in their region

Why do streamers just get 2$/1000 viewer for a commercial? That is so little compared to for example German television where a commercial usually costs about 1cent per viewer which makes 10€/1000 viewer. Not to mention that TV commercials are usually in a block with 20 other commercials while we only see one commercial at a time on streaming services. So that should make commercials on streaming services more valuable. Furthermore it is a lot easier to precisely reach your target audience via streams than via TV. Is it because commercials on live streams are still underused by the industry and thus the price is low? Or does the rest go to the streaming services? for two reasons. First TV companies deal directly with the advertisers, while internet broadcasters deal with intermediaries like justin.tv. And secondly tv commercials are put there based on the advertiser's requests, who study target demographics of the show and compare it to the target demographics of the product, hence making the advertising more valuable.

this topic has been discussed a lot long story short version is if you can hold 2k+ viewers it'll generate money you can live off of if not then it's dimes and nickles.

As per page 1, 2000 viewers is $7/h, which is 7*160h/month=$1120/month (at 40 hours pr. week - I've kept it comparable with ordinary work). Can you live off that in the US? I can't in Denmark, I would need 3x that. Amount of commercials also play a role here though.
RIAA has long been "hunting" music playing streamers. JustinTV have warned several streamers and asked them to stop or make agreements with music companies.
Edit: From the Justin.tv wiki: "Justin.tv now uses an advanced filtering system from Vobile to detect and filter out any copyrighted content, and remove the channel from the website."

A number I keep hearing from LoL streamers is:
own3d = 3-4$ / 1000 viewers / hour justin.tv = 6$ / 1000 viewers / hour, but ONLY for viewers from the US
I'm not 100% sure on the exact amount but it was pretty close to the above, so I'm not entirely sure why the numbers thrown around here seem so much lower.
