Starcraft, although I've only been playing it since December of 2010, has had a great impact on my life. You see, I'm someone who thrives on competition. Gym class hero? I was one of those in high school. Not because I was a douche bag, just because I like to win. I wrestled in high school and there is nothing more thrilling than being 1 on 1 against another human being. If you lose, it's no one's fault but your own. Preparation is entirely the individual's responsibility. Starcraft helps recreate that experience for me. I go up against another human being in a test of mental aptitude, physical ability, and preparation. If I lose, it's not my teammates fault, a referees, or the games, it is solely mine. No other game has the ability to recreate that experience for me. It has to be Starcraft.
Also, it gives me a community to interact with. I was an avid World of Warcraft player since classic WoW but had to quit in November because of some things that it was keeping me from. I missed the community that WoW has, but when I got involved with the SC2 community, things changed for me. I feel like I know, yes know, djWHEAT, Day[9], JP, etc. Just watching those shows gives me insight into their lives, and I feel apart of that. And Teamliquid, OH MY GOD. What a great place to just talk to people about the same game that you love. Just simply amazing. I might not be the best player, but places like this are the formation grounds for the best. You simply don't find this anywhere else.
Another thing: this game is about fulfilling dreams. Remember when we were little and people told you that playing video games were a waste of time and would lead no where? Guess what, if your good at this, you can do it for a living now. That's so awesome. This community and game shows the average person that if you are good at what you do and work hard, you can make a living out of it. There is nothing better than doing your passion for a living. I had goals for my career, but nothing compared to what would happen if I could do something in E-SPORTS for a living. So my actual "goals" are more backups because of what Starcraft 2 has shown me.
This game is just simply amazing. It teaches work ethic. You want to get better? You better train like crazy, because there is someone out there who wants to do nothing but defeat you. You get beat pretty bad? Go study, reflect, and learn. It teaches amazing life lessons that are hard to learn. To get better, you must have dedication and work hard. And, just like life, getting behind and falling prone to laziness is easier than success.
People don't want to see you succeed, because if you improve, that makes their excuses worthless.
So in short, Starcraft is so amazing and has impacted me in so many ways. I just wanted to share with you all what you mean to me for being a part of a community that helps fulfill my dreams and pressures me to become better.
Thank you very much, and great blessing on you all <3<3<3<3<3<3
