Hi,
I'm new to the site, but not new to mafia. I might like to play in this game, but I have some questions first.
1) How many posts are typical for Day 1 here?
2) My brother has an account for this site and we share the same IP address. Will this be a problem if one of us gets banned from the site?

Thanks, I'll have to check the site I am signed up for for a game off site before I commit.

Oh, ok, just thought repeat offenders might get their IP address blocked from making an account. *shrug* Obviously I am not talking about myself getting banned, I have never been banned from any site, but my brother can be a bit BM.

I've technically played on 10 sites, but I really only count 8 or 9 cuz two of them I was a replacement and one I didn't do much. The only reason I can really count the other one I replaced into is because I wasn't lynched because I made a claim and people didn't want to lynch me after that. That game just ended actually.
But to answer your question, I think I have the most games played on either Personality Cafe or Mafia Scum and I think Personality Cafe I have played just a few more games. I also had my first few games on PerC.

Yeah, its a big range. 500 posts day one would be no problem, but I'm going to be playing in another game where there are roughly 600-800 posts, so if its like 1500 on top of that it might be a bit difficult.
But against my better judgement,
/In
I'm counting on me not having to play 2 day ones at the same time.

Thanks. DarthPunk tells me the competition is pretty steep here. So I guess the real question is if I play with a mentor or not.

How do I multiquote on this site?

OK so that's two things so far that I can't say I like about this site :/

OK so that's two things so far that I can't say I like about this site :/ We do have "filter" button though under every post which allows you to view said player's posts in the game in a threaded mode. That's way superior to any ISO-system on any other site i have ever seen. I think we don't have multiquotes since TL wasn't developed for playing mafia. I personally don't even like multiquotes since it makes posts harder to read and often people intentionally/unintentionally take the quotes out of context making them basically useless. Ofc that's just a preference thing in the end. I think another way is to copy the links for the posts and make a post where you give your analysis of said posts, then people can themselves follow the links and see if they agree with you or not. Imo it makes your post easier to read and follow and regardless if you have quoted the post you are referring to, people should anyways ALWAYS check the post in context. Everything can be scummy or not depending on the context.
MafiaScum has by far the best site for playing forum mafia on.. at least that I have seen. You can ISO up to 3 people at a time just like you can do for one person's posts here. They also have voter tags. They also have all your standard forums stuff. This forum is a bit odd, but workable I think. I think ISO is better on this site than a lot of sites, but there are some things this site lacks like something as basic as custom avatars. MafiaScum is the best site to play forum mafia on because that is its specific purpose.
I have to feel this site out a bit more before I decide how it compares to other sites with a fair outlook.
As an aside if I get to have a coach and I can pick who that is I would like to pick you as my coach.

It prolly has more "features" that TL does, not gonna argue about that. Well i actually looked at their filter system and i don't really understand what's superior to TL's in that.. I find it harder to use than having a filter button in every post. On the appearance I myself find this design best to my eyes, some places (including Mafiascum) hurt my eyes after reading for some time, idk if it's the contrast of bg/text or white text or what... But that is 100% a preference thing and most places allow changing the UI anyways. I also never have avatars showing on any site (or signatures, if they allow anything but text), they are distracting.
There is nothing wrong with having a preference. Even if MS has more features that does not guarantee that everyone is going to like that site better. And, yeah, you have a point.. being able to click a single button to ISO someone is a really nice thing to have for a game like mafia.

SC2Mafia has a very cool mechanic where the thread is automatically locked after a majority of votes. Pretty neat feature if you ask me.

IIRC, there is actually a mafia gui that is text based that is based on SC2.

I think plurality lynch works for some sites. I've played both. I prefer majority lynch, but its not like I'm not going to play a game because it has plurality lynch. Its actually the way I learned to play first.

That's true, but you can also leverage bandwagons better with majority.

As an aside if I get to have a coach and I can pick who that is I would like to pick you as my coach. FYI requests are cool and esp if you have a specific aim, but considering rayn is a listed town coach if you roll scum, you will get whoever the scum coach is. (That said, he is a good coach otherwise in spite of what he says about his English language ability xD.) Filter debates aside I've debated trying out mafiascum because of my work schedule (48h cycles are not sustainable for me anymore, if a random business trip pops up, I'm canned) - are all games an entire week for a dayphase or can they vary between 4-7 days? I know replacements are oftentimes because the game just goes quite long and if you have a 4-day game where town loses in m13 after 4 MLs, that equates to games taking a month long assuming 6-7 day long dayphases. I'd say the key things here are the 48h dayphases (and 24h nights), plurality lynch (most people here hate majority, I can handle deadline majority, all it means is that towns need to work together better - but IML is a joke because of timezones most of the time), forum layout and to some extent the mechanics. As for community, most people here are civil. Some aren't and thankfully they are dealt with accordingly/debated for punishment post-game. With respect to gameplay, I'd say MOST newbie games are slower paced, but non-newbies, depending on the signups can be spammy. Some players post way more than others and in certain threads, it has been mentioned that the 48h cycles have a lot to do with this attribute given the types of players this type of cycle would draw. Also TL in general is first and foremost a gaming community, so many people here will also game with each other outside of forum mafia, including members "retired" from TL mafia. I play a lot of Dota 2 and a few things else with others, but others here play overwatch, sc2, league, hearthstone and a host of other games on the TL discord channel.
Yeah, wasn't really sure how the coaching works here.
I think it is somewhat up to the discretion of the game maker what length the games are technically, but I've never actually seen a game with less than a week long day.
I think I prefer a 4 day long day/night cycle with majority, but I've never actually played a game like that. 3 day long day phase seems the right amount to me. Enough can get talked about to make an informed decision and I like the way majority works with Bandwagons better than plurality where everyone is pretty much just doing their own thing (as Town).
There are always a few bad apples no matter where you go. Some sites however, are just plain toxic. Glad this isn't one of those I guess, but I suppose that kind of thing is relative.
Yeah, I know what TL is about since my brother was a huge BW player, but he now plays Dota 2. He did play SC2 a bit and did the whole manager thing, had a good team, but I forget why he stopped doing that. I don't really play blizzard/valve games too much because there is just something toxic about the player base that completely turns me off to it. I'm more of an RPG guy myself.

I am psyched to play here.. Fing finally! (hopefully soon)
