StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm v2.0.9 BU (latest)
Format: 1v1
Game speed: Fastest

Players must bring their own computer to play on (BYOC). There will not be computers or peripherals provided at the event. Please have StarCraft II®: Heart of the Swarm™ installed and updated to the latest patch (currently 2.0.9 BU) before the event begins. Players are also requested to bring their own power strips and/or Ethernet cables.

General Rules
Players are expected to arrive on time. Players that arrive more than 15 minutes late for the start of their scheduled matches will be seen as having forfeited.

Players are expected to have manners, and any inappropriate behavior, as decided by the tournament master, can result in disqualification.

Any attempt to cheat will result in automatic disqualification. This includes but is not limited to: intentionally viewing the other player's screen, map hacking, intentional disconnection of the game, or unauthorized plug-ins/third party programs.

If there is no battle for a certain amount of time during the match and the winner cannot be decided clearly after a certain amount of time has passed, the winner will be determined by the highest overall score.

The Match Winner is determined by the following:
The player who destroys all the opponent’s buildings
The player whose opponent surrenders
The player with the highest overall score at the end of any time limit imposed by a tournament official

Players are not allowed to pause during the game unless it is due to technical difficulties or disturbances. Any other reason for pausing can result in a warning or loss. If the game is paused, it will only be started under the consensus of both players. If a player starts the game without the approval of the other player, a tournament official may decide on a warning or a loss.

LANHAMMER officials may join as an observer for tournament operations purposes.

By participating in the event, you are agreeing to all aspects of these rules.

Bugs/Exploits/Disconnections
Any other intentional practice that is determined as unfair and/or usage of a program bug, at the sole discretion of the tournament master, can result in a warning at the minimum or loss by default for the offending player.

Disconnections
A Disconnection includes (but is not limited to): disruption of the connection between match players due to System, Network, PC, and/or Power problems/issues.
Intentional Disconnection: Upon judgment by the tournament official, any offending player will be charged with a loss by forfeit.

When any Disconnection occurs:

1) If disconnection occurs within 2 minutes of start of match: Match Restart
2) If disconnection occurs after 2 minutes of start of match:
Match will be played from "resume from replay" function in StarCraft II game client.

Penalty for Unfair Play
Unfair Play includes (but is not limited to):
1) Use of any map hack program
2) Intentional disconnection
3) Use of any settings exceeding standard and permitted settings
4) Excessive and unnecessary/malicious chatting during the match.
5) If a tournament official decides that external conditions (Press, Player, Spectator, etc) gave an unfair advantage to a player, the player may be given a warning or loss by default at the tournament director’s sole discretion.

Upon discovery of any player committing any violations regarded as unfair play, that player will be automatically disqualified from the tournament.

During the course of any match, the tournament officials and/or tournament master may determine other actions to be unfair play at any time.

Tournament Details
Side choice determined by coin flip, and then by losing team in bo3 or bo5 matches.
Groups Pools with Single Elimination Top Cut
Eight groups of four teams will be created prior to the tournament start
Each team in each group will play three matches during group stage, one against each other team in their group. Each match will be bo1 while in group stage.
The top two scoring teams based on wins and loses will advance to the single elimination top cut
In the case of a tie, we will be comparing point differentials based on total team kills/deaths between teams that tied with the two highest teams advancing on.
The top 16 teams from group stage will be placed into a single elimination bracket for the remaining of the tournament. All sets in single elimination will be best of three.
A surrender is treated as a loss for the team who surrendered
Size: 32 teams
Summoner Requirements: Must have an account on NA server
All computers must run the game at the lowest possible graphical settings that you are comfortable with in order to ensure low power consumption (excluding “fast terrain” mode). The sheer amount of computers in the building comes extremely close to exceeding the power we can provide, and thus, any excessive amount of power usage will be grounds for removal from the tournament. Tournament Admins may ask players before or during the tournament to turn down their graphical settings. If players do not turn down their settings on request, they will be liable to disqualification.
UPDATE TO THE LATEST PATCH BEFORE YOU ARRIVE - To be safe, update the night before the tournament. Remember that holding up the tournament is grounds for removal from the tournament!
Accounts must be on the North American server.

Team Rules
Teams may consist of a maximum of 6 players.
5 players are permitted to play in the tournament. Once the tournament starts, no substitutions may make. Exceptions to this rule will be made on a case by case basis. Contact a tournament admin if this is needed.

Technical Difficulties:
Definitions:
Game Crashes/Unintentional Disconnection: Any connection loss of one or more players due to game client, system, network, PC, and/or power problems/issues.

Game Leaving/Intentional Disconnection: Any connection loss of one or more players due to a player’s actions. Upon judgment by the referee, the offending player or players may be charged with a default loss or play will be allowed to continue to the disconnecting player’s team’s disadvantage.

Server Crashes: A permanent connection loss of one or multiple players due to an issue with a server

Rules:
If game crash occurs within 5 minutes from the start of the match & before first blood –OR– a player’s client crashes or fails to load after champion selection, then the match must be restarted. Otherwise if the game crash occurs after first blood or the 3 minute mark, the game will continue as normal. The crashed player may reconnect into the game as soon as they are able.
If, for whatever reason, a player is unable to willfully select his/her champion, the match will be restarted with each player playing the champion they selected initially.
If, for whatever reason, a player enters into a game with a banned champion or champion selected other than the one he stated, he will be issued a warning and the match will be restarted with each player playing the champion they selected initially. If the same player again willfully selects a banned champion in the restarted match, his team will forfeit the match and he will be disqualified from the tournament. His team may be disqualified from the tournament at the discretion of the board of referees/tournament organizer.
If a player intentionally leaves a game, then the game will continue as normal.
If a server crash occurs, then the chief referee will decide either between (a) restarting the game or (b) awarding the game to one of the teams. The chief referee will only award a game victory in a situation where one team was on the verge of certain defeat.
If a restart occurs, for whatever reason, the match will be remade in tournament draft. Both teams must maintain the same bans, the same picks, and the same runes and masteries that were chosen for the match that had to be restarted.

Pause Usage
Teams may use the Pause feature at anytime in the game if they are having technical difficulties. After using a pause, the team must call a tournament admin to their table to confirm the technical issue.
If, for whatever reason, the team does not have a technical issue after a pause has been made, the team will be issued a warning.
If, for whatever reason, the team does not have a technical issue again after a pause has been made and they already have a warning, the team will forfeit the match and/or, at the sole discretion of tournament officials, they will be disqualified from the tournament.

Unfair play
The following actions will be considered unfair play:
The use of any cheat program and/or map hack program.
An intentional disconnection
The use of any settings exceeding the standard and permitted settings
Clearly allowing an opponent to win a match.
Unsportsmanlike behavior or, in general, disruptive (e.g., shouting), inappropriate and/or unprofessional actions directed towards another player (even inside the game).
The use of a program bug that is determined by the board of referees as being unfair.

Upon discovery of any player committing any violations regarded as unfair play, the offending player, at the sole discretion of the board of referees, may receive a warning, a forfeit loss or, in extreme cases, be disqualified from the tournament.

During the course of the event, the board of referees may determine other actions to embody unfair play.

At an offline tournament, If a referee decides that external conditions (Press, Team Leader, Player, Spectator, etc) are giving or have given an unfair advantage to a player, the player may be given a warning or lose by default at the referee's sole discretion.

Final provisions:
The above-mentioned rules may be amended in the following cases:
(1) Should the tournament referees, at their sole discretion, decide to adopt the latest patch/version release of each official game;
(2) Should the tournament referees, at their sole discretion, decide to modify in-game settings and options required by the use of most recent patch version/release
(3) Should the tournament referees, at their sole discretion, decide to use a newly released Cheat Protection Program and/or cheat protection functions
(4) Should the tournament referees, at their sole discretion, decide to change game settings and/or operations guidelines due to differences between online and offline tournaments.
(5) Should the tournament referees, at their sole discretion, find it appropriate to modify the rules during the course of the tournament in order to ensure fairness amongst competitors and the smooth operation of the tournament.

If a player or team is willfully disrupting or preventing the running or management of the tournament, any referee may take action including, but not limited to issuing a warning or disqualification of said player or team, depending on the severity of the player’s or team’s actions.
Keep games civil. Offensive language, excessive taunting, and the continued disruption or annoying of players via verbal or textual means are grounds for removal from the tournament at the discretion of the board of referees.

Doesn't this belong in tournaments?

This sounds pretty big though. There is more than 10k in prizes, so it does qualify for tier 1 WCS points. Is your tournament registered with Blizzard?

edit - Oh is that $10,000 prize in cash?

We messaged Blizzard and they said our tournament is large enough where we didn't need a tournament license.

We have not organized any arrangement for WCS points to be given out.

This is cash, yes.

I can post in tournaments or a mod can move to tournaments. I put it in community because it has both Dota 2 and SC2 and I didn't want to spam both forums.

If we can get casters here for our event, we'll do it through them - if not we'll fire up our own stream and stream the event.

This looks awesome! The only thing I'd suggest is maybe updating the map pool as some of those maps are quite dated.

Looks super cool. You could probably get some local US casters in for some hype. Get Husky etc in, advertise on YouTube, more viewers, more stream revenue, more popularity.

I will be there.

Also, I feel like these rules are slightly outdated:

Bugs/Exploits/Disconnections
Any other intentional practice that is determined as unfair and/or usage of a program bug, at the sole discretion of the tournament master, can result in a warning at the minimum or loss by default for the offending player.

Disconnections
A Disconnection includes (but is not limited to): disruption of the connection between match players due to System, Network, PC, and/or Power problems/issues.
Intentional Disconnection: Upon judgment by the tournament official, any offending player will be charged with a loss by forfeit.

When any Disconnection occurs:

1) If disconnection occurs within 3 minutes of start of match: Match Restart
2) If disconnection occurs after 3 minutes of start of match:
If both players agree to a match restart, the match will be restarted. If the players cannot reach an agreement, the winner will be determined by a tournament official after analysis of the match replay file or by the final score at the moment of disconnection.

I think disconnects should be resolved by resuming the match from replay. The only reason not to do so would be time constraints, but since the rules allow for a full match restart (which would take even longer), it would make most sense to just resume from replay.
I <3 StarCraft.

I agree the rules are a little dated - my apologies. We'll edit this part as well as removing the age restriction (18+)

Also, I feel like these rules are slightly outdated:

Bugs/Exploits/Disconnections
Any other intentional practice that is determined as unfair and/or usage of a program bug, at the sole discretion of the tournament master, can result in a warning at the minimum or loss by default for the offending player.

It pays to be a very active follower of the SC2 and Dota 2 scene also planning 5 winter game fests helps as well.
