Well Fighter Forum is doing their "Yearly MVP" for 2005. Each day they're chosing their "Zerg MVP", "Protoss MVP", "Terran MVP" and "Player MVP".
So I thought why don't we have our own?
Poll: Best Zerg of 2005 (Vote): July (POS) (Vote): IPXZerg (G.O) (aka sAviOr[gm]) (Vote): GoRush (SKT1) (Vote): ChoJJa (KTF) (Vote): YellOw (KTF) (Vote): Jju (KHAN)
Poll: Best Protoss of 2005 (Vote): AnyTime (Plus) (Vote): Reach (KTF) (Vote): StOrk (KHAN) (Vote): Ra (KTF) (Vote): PuSan (POS) (Vote): Rainbow (SKT1)
Poll: Best Terran of 2005 (Vote): XellOs (G.O) (Vote): GooDFriend (KTF) (Vote): NaDa (P&C) (Vote): BoxeR (SKT1) (Vote): Midas (SKT1) (Vote): Oov (SKT1)
Since Best Gamer of 2005 has 9 nominees, and TLnet's poll only has 7 spots, I'll split it into two polls.
Poll: Best Gamer of 2005 (Part 1) (Vote): IPXZerg (Vote): July (Vote): Reach (Vote): GoRush (Vote): StOrk
Poll: Best Gamer of 2005 (Part 2) (Vote): AnyTime (Vote): NaDa (Vote): BoxeR (Vote): Oov
I'll update the poll when FiFo does theirs.
FiFo results:
Best Zerg of 2005: 1. July 2. IPXZerg 3. GoRush
Best Protoss of 2005: 1. AnyTime 2. Reach 3. StOrk
Best Terran of 2005: 1. BoxeR 2. NaDa 3. Oov
Best Gamer of 2005: 1. July 2. BoxeR 3. AnyTime
Incase you forgot, here's a list of their accomplishments to help you make a reasonable decision.
July: KT-KTF Winner, IOPS OSL 2nd Place, EVER2 OSL Winner, and outstanding 2v2 performance for SKY Proleague. (the Gillette win does not count since it was 2004) Snickers Round 1 Runner-up. IPXZerg: UZOO MSL Winner, CYON MSL Top 2 GoRush: YouAreTheGolfKing MSL Winner, KT-KTF Runner-Up, IOPS OSL 3rd Place, EVER2 OSL 4th Place YellOw: KT-KTF 4th Place, Snickers Grand Final Winner, Blizzcon Winner, 5th Place for SKY Proleague MVP. I want some discussion here!

K fine I'll start.
For Zerg I'd say either July or IPXZerg... They both got a Major league title, but I voted for July because his performance for the OSL title seemed far more greater than IPXZerg's performance for the MSL title. Plus July broke the OSL ZvT Finals curse! Hmm GoRush also did well in the 'You Are The Golf King" MSL, but I didn't get to watch that MSL from the beginning, so... T_T
For Protoss I'd say either Ra, Rainbow, or AnyTime. It was a tough choice, as AnyTime's starleague performance was great, but Ra's SKY Proleague performance could match no other, and his recent MSL performance was great as well. Same goes to Rainbow, who's did well in MSL and OSL. But I guess in the end an OSL title, Royal Road, and Fall Legend is more important.
For Terran I'd have to go with BoxeR in the end. Only because of how he's able to adapt and still stay on top, after long months of people saying how he's not good enough anymore. Gotta give him props.
I'd have to think awhile for the best Gamer one...

For zerg i think Gorush deserves. July i think deserves it for being the first zerg to get 2 osl titles and savior deserves it for winning msl but Gorush in his prime in 2005 deserves it the most. He had like a 12 winning streak or something on tv. He hasnt lost a zvp to any toss except nal_ra and anytime. No one could have touched him. He won a msl(you are a golf king) 3rd in iops than 4th in ever. He got 2nd at ktf. I also think gorush popularized the fast hive defiler we see most zergs do. His macro and rich zerg style was art. Any of the three zergs deserve it but i think gorush is the most suited.
For protoss either Reach or Anytime. Reach has been the only protoss hope for so long until the 3 new kings came. Reach was like the only toss qualifying for starleagues. Hes really the hero toss. He also is a monster when it comes to being consistent. Anytime deserves it cause its been a while a toss won a starleague and Anytime won his first try getting into one after getting 4th seed for dual.
For terran it should be BOXER. i dont even need to explain myself ^_^.
Best overall gamer is gonna be boxer i bet. I agree too Boxer's achievments in 2005 i think were getting 2nd in so1. He also had a perfect 5-0 winning streak until he entered the semifinals against Pusan. Boxers been in the pro scence for so long and yet hes still top 5 terran. He also is a God when it comes to new maps. Examples of this is the recent Boxer vs. July game. It reminded me of when Boxer bunker rushed yellow on a island map -_-. Boxer is like the oldest pro with yellow around 25. He deserves it the most imo.
If i wasn't a Boxer fan i would say Julyzerg. Currently he is number in the kespa ranking. He brought on a new type of agressive zerg. He achieved 2 osl titles 2 more than any zerg combined -_-. He also was the only zerg to pass the first round in so1. He deserves it after his epic bo5 with Goodfriend. No human could have won that except July himself. He also probably will be the only zerg to pass the first round for the current star league.

How can you even say this without including Reach. Rainbow accompished nothing even close to all the things reach did in 2005.
I can't see how Anytime is getting 70% of the vote. That's just beyond imaginable. Reach has accomplished so many high place finishes in OSL and MSL in 2005. He at one time was the only representative of the protoss race in the league. Anytime won a Starleague, sure, that was great. But that's it. Anytime's perfomance in Proleague sucks. Reach on the other hand pretty much carries KTF's 2v2 team. He's one of the major reasons why the KTF team is in line for the upcoming Proleague title. His 1v1 performance is also top notch. Anytime did nothing in MSL, didn't even qualify. Anytime immediately slumped in ShinHan Bank OSL following the starleague win by not getting past his groups. A number of people, including myself, also consider Anytime's starleague win to be somewhat a fluke, as in most of his games he outstrategized his opponents rather than outplaying them.
Finally, I want to just note that one of the reasons why Reach couldn't win any starleagues in 2005 was because he kept having to face top level zergs in BO series at the end. He annihilated everybody else, and hits a dead wall when he faces up against top level zergs in finals. Anytime NEVER had to face one single zerg in a bo series in his entire path to the starleague title. Even in all the dual league rounds before he qualified for OSL, he never faced any zergs. If Reach had a starleague like Anytime did, where he never had to face a zerg in bo series, I have no doubt in my mind he would have won a starleague or two.
Even with all of that in mind, I can still understand some people voting for Anytime as best protoss of 2005. But 70% is just beyond believable. There is a reason why Reach is the highest ranked protoss player in Kespa during the 2005 year, even after Anytime's Starleague win. People seem to forget too quickly about Reach's accomplishments he made the entire year as opposed to Anytime's "one time wonder".
Edit: Here's another case of people forgetting too early: In 2005, Gorush actually accomplished more than IPXZerg. But IPXZerg gets twice as many votes as Gorush just because IPXZerg's accomplishments are the most recent.

This year its hard for me to think about it... Although IPX looks amazing, he hasnt really done too much yet. He could easily just be a pro on a hot streak who fades away. It happens often. And im just drawing a blank when it comes to what GoRush and July did this year(GoRush won MSL?).
Anytime is good but Protoss of the year? I dont know, he won a starleague. Was Kingdom Protoss of the year when he won a starleague? Nah, Ra still was shining much brighter. Thats kinda how I feel about this. Reach isnt doing well at all though lately so its hard to vote for him too. I might even go as far as saying Pusan is my pick, just because he has put on some amazing games.

Gorush had an MSL win, a top 2 KT-KTF league, and top 3 OSL, [edit]and top 4 OSL.
IPXZerg had an MSL win
Again, people forget quickly. There's a reason why Gorush is placed #2 in Kespa, just behind July. I think the Kespa ranking, which totals accomplishments over the last year, is much more indicative of best MVPs than a public poll.
Reach placed top 5 in the current MSL and qualified for the next one (eliminated because of, once again, a bo series against zerg), so saying he isnt doing well at all lately is wrong.

anytime is the only toss to win an osl or am i wrong. winning an osl is big. but how come forU isn't on the list? yeah he only won wcg bla bla bla, but i still think he deserves to get a chance to be voted for.
july cause it's july
terran: hrmmmmmmm i would have to say either im yohwan or im yohwan jr (chae yunsung) i like how boxer is contradicting everyone but i do miss the days when he pulled lots of cutesy stuff. of course it's harder to outmicro other progamers these days but that shat was the bomb shizzle. so i will have to say oov just cause oov is always competing for first-third in like every tournament he competes in

the MVP poll was voted by half professionals, and half public I think. But yea, after reading tfeigns post I think I should reconsider my vote for best-toss.
And you can't see the Best Terran poll cuz it's not out yet. I'll add it when FiFo lists the nominated players for their poll, which will be tomarrow.

Yeah. you cleared those things up for me. Though from my perspective I think I only watched VODs of reach this year where he got absolutely demolished and it just made me sad.

Protoss is a clear stand out Anytime
While Zerg is either July or sAviOr, but maybe July because of the osl

Gorush also had a 4th place in OSL as well, which I totally forgot. That brings his total accomplishments an MSL win, a top 2 KT-KTF league, top 3 OSL, and top 4 OSL.

july's 2 titles in 2005, plus a 2nd place finish in OSL make him a strong contender for best zerg. gorush, as someone mentioned above, finished 3rd and 4th in the OSL, 2nd in kt-ktf, and won an MSL. another point to add is that he was the ONLY player capable of competing with nada when nada was in perfect shape earlier this year. during nada's IOPS tear, he passed through the groups easily, beat yellow 2-0, came back from near defeat to beat gorush 3-2, then beat july 3-0. it was during this same period of time that gorush beat nada 4-2 in the MSL final. (on an unrelated point, i think there would've been a great rivalry between the two had they not started slumping). while july is very very consistent, i'd have to say that gorush is more impressive than july when he is in good form. between the two, i would pick gorush, although i can see why people would pick july. i can't understand how people would vote for ipxzerg though.
i can't see a candidate other than reach for best protoss. although anytimes OSL win is the most recent protoss accomplishment, which i think skews the votes quite a bit, for most of 2005, reach was the only protoss to have good finishes. sometimes he was the only protoss to even qualify for the major leagues. his spectacular 3-0 of oov and series against chojja seems to have been quickly forgotten after he faltered in the final against savior. while anytimes victory was spectacular itself, he hasn't had the chance yet to prove that hes here to stay. reach has proved that over and over again.
i think boxer deserves best terran for proving that he is still capable of competing with the best. he also nearly won his 3rd OSL title. however, in terms of accomplishments, nada would be a strong contender as well. his recent slump might have made people forget about the perfect form he returned to early in the year. he made an amazing comeback in the IOPS semifinals against gorush, and no one else seemed to be a match for him in that league. he also finished 2nd in the MSL.
i just noticed how much zerg dominated 2005. zergs combined for a total 4 titles on the year; kt-ktf (july), YAGK (gorush), ever 2 (july), and cyon? (savior). also a zerg is going to win the current MSL.

Chraej MVP, gimme that bling

I totally agree with tfeign about people voting with an end-of-season bias, though I somewhat disagree about Anytime vs Reach. Reach came out very strong at the start of '05, but Anytime just shot through everyone so fast and violently that he shocked the world. And there is no substitute for an OSL title. Consistnecy might indicate better play, but it does not necessarily stand as a substitute accomplishment.
Who will you remember as a 400m runner? The consistent Michael Blackwood or the 04 Olympics gold medalist Jeremy Wariner?
Had Reach put up a top 4 performance in an OSL to add to his MSL runner-up, then *maybe*.
But there's also the fact that Anytime opened a huge new door for Protoss. Originally, through the Boxer era, there stood the notion that P > T. When NaDa came to power, we saw a generation of unstoppable macro monster Terrans who none of the tosses could compete with except on a very good day. In the macro game, it became evident that Protoss did not have the advantage it was once thought to have. Taking risks to establish that advantage would leave windows through which a well-timed Terran could strike, and not forcing any such macro risks would leave the Protoss to be out-macro'd. Anytime showed us that the true power of Protoss is not in the macro, but in the fact that Protoss has greater diversity in its tech tree, thus they have an aspect of unpredictability that cannot be easily compensated for.
Let's be real for a second: never before have the very best players been so scared of someone that they cowered behind safe builds with unconfident play.

i really don't want to vote anytime but i also don't know any great things the other tosses have achieved
gogo boxer for his great comeback

Really tough choices, especially between gorush and july. In the end I went gorush cause he played rather innovatively and whatching july tear apart so many people with 2 hidden lurkers everytime got lame. That and gorush had like a 15 or 16 tv game winning streak... pretty nuts.
For the toss category it's reach vs anytime, and as much as I love reach (been my fav toss player since forever, and not just cause he's dead sexy) anytime won another big title for toss players everywhere - that's quite a feat even if he didn't have to face any zergs along the way. Taking down oov and boxer one after the other in a series is damn impressive. Still it's tough, the vod I saw between oov and reach on luna this year where they went toe to toe macro a macro (think mano a mano) was hAwTness!
