I had this idea for quite a bit and finally got motivated to request it by the Hot_Bid IdrA interview. Imagine a map where you have full vision over your opponent (for both sides), his tech, his army, his buildings, his production, etc. Imagine you see worker by worker how far you are getting ahead/falling behind, when a certain timing hits while you are in the game, etc..

I would like to have a custom map for every ladder/tournament map that has that "full vision" setting, like a map-inbuilt wallhack. I dont know how hard this is to pull-off (increase main-base vision range to infinite? ^^) or if this even is possible or allowed via blizzard's map editor restrictions, but I think this would be a good idea and I definitely would test it if someone is able to do that.

Sounds simple enough, just edit the vision of every unit to an absurdly high value and give everything detection.

Even simpler then that, you can actually just add a trigger on map load with "Set Allliance" that sets the 2 players as "Enemies with Shared Vision"

Then it's basically NR-20 and terrans would probably get owned (the only way to increase SCV production is to build more ccs while zerg has larva and protoss has CB). So we would see Z>P>T as it basically comes down to micro after having appropriate macro.

However you would also be able to have perfect positioning and never be caught unsieged, never be caught in the middle of the map, etc, swinging it back into balance.
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

The incremental benefits of seeing what your opponent is doing will simply ensure you will never get up to siege tanks with a decent econ since any sort of Terran pressure would just be an "all-in" with full map vision.

I'm pretty sure the idea of this is less to make a balanced competition, and more to understand timings. For example, ZvZ is a very volatile matchup, but if you played against a practice partner and agreed to play it as if it was blind, you could get a much greater understanding of the matchup, by being able to look at his drone/army count whenever you wanted. Similarly, if you wanted to learn to beat All-In X, if you played vs. a practice partner on this map, you could see exactly what to look for and when: Very helpful for scouting in a real game.

What this reminds me of is a player who used to maphack, but eventually felt guilty and stopped, and he said that maphacking had really helped him understand exactly what his opponent could and could not do at certain points, because he had so much information that he could apply to his other games. This would be a way to use that without cheating.
<@Wikt> so you are one of those nega-fans <@Wikt> that hates the company that makes a game and everything they stand for <@Wikt> but still plays the game <@Wikt> (like roughly 30% of blizzard's player base, maybe much more...)

It's really hard to play optimally even with full map vision. The vast majority of us can only beat other shitty players with maphack -- nestea, mvp, and mc will always beat you even if you have maphack and they don't. If you have a training partner actually worth practicing against, you might a well just play games and watch the replays...

I also think that a version that gave only one player full map vision would be a good idea. It would allow a player to try a strat that does not rely on 'getting lucky'

I think it would be also interesting to simply play games where both players had maphacks on. My friends and I were surmising what that would do the game because in that case, it would have a very "chess-like" feel.

Glgl!
