MRB Map Pool MRB aka "Marble" = More Resources per Base Presented by Barrin
INTRODUCTION I've been playing around with the idea of "Fewer Resources per Base" or FRB for a while now, and I'm just not satisfied with the way it works out. It's just boring.
I think going in the opposite direction with More Resources per Base is the future of SC2. Let's take a moment to consider what this change could mean in terms of gameplay.
DATA/THEORY It should go without saying that when you have more resources in your bases, it's a lot easier and faster to make a big army. Now I don't know about the rest of you, but I love me some big armies. BIG armies; very big armies to reflect the size of my genitalia. BOOM SMASH POW! TERRIBLE TERRIBLE DAMAGE!!!
Okay seriously.. that should be enough. Who doesn't love that stuff, I mean c'mon man. But wait.. there's more!
When you have so many resources in your base (say 12m3g), then you don't have to worry about expanding very much (which is just such a chore, as we all know). This lets you spend more time focusing on your army to make sure it's at the right spot on the map and stuff.
The best part about all this is that even Johnny Bronze can give Grandmaster Mike a run for his money, because even a monkey can spam marines (not that we're monkeys, we just like explosions and lots of death). This gives more people more hope of winning.
PROOF OF CONCEPT Well, anyone can spout some BS and say their mapping idea is the future of ESPORTS. But I'm going to bring it a step further and put my money where my mouth is, so to speak.
I have made a set of maps that I feel best represent this "More Resources per Base" idea and utilize it to it's fullest.

CONCLUSION For those who never got a chance to play BW and missed the life changing experience of moving from BW to SC2, I feel these maps will let you experience some of the the difference and direct upgrade in gameplay that SC2 brought to the RTS genre. (These are all but one of the SC2 beta maps, btw). MRB mimics a major difference of going from BW to SC2 by nudging it even further along the breadth of gameplay spectrum. This can only be a good thing, so I hope you guys try it out.
+ Show Spoiler [spoiler] +In all seriousness, these maps will actually probably be very fun for a little bit lol.
Thank you, - Barrin

Read the title and instantly thought april fools. I will have to try one of these though haha.

I challenge you on steppes zvt anyday. Come at me with your silly 1base all-ins

As much as i hate the FRB concept, this made me giggle like a little school girl. Well played Barrin!

its the 111 that never ends, It goes on and on my friend. Marines started building and they never ever stopped cause it's the 111 that never ends, it goes on and on my friend. Tanks started building and they never ever stopped cause it's the 111 that never ends, it does on and on my friend. Mules started dropping and they never ever stopped.

I also like how you altered quite possibly the worst maps ever to see the ladder.

Lots of april fools maps! I think 12m3g is actually something Plexa was pushing for a while back?

It's the first for us
@barrin: I know you have been planning it... and I do find it funny. I just think the amount of april fools maps is ridiculous.
|
Ah, I see you got around to making some protoss favored maps! These look very promising ; )
|
Still 10 more hours of april fools where I live
I had a deadline of sorts for my latest map "6m Braxis Delta" (100% of it's pretty decent aesthetics done yesterday, also hours of testing) and I was too busy and then too tired to work on this yesterday Better late than never :D
|
How could you not include Delta Quadrant? That map would work perfectly for this new and very promising MRB idea.
|
Well (1) All these other maps were in beta, delta quadrant introduced on release. This isn't really an argument but y'know, OCD and stuff. (2) I finally had to start removing old maps to make room for new ones, and I wasn't sure I would be able to fit it. Actually I can, so perhaps I'll go ahead and add it. (3) In terms of when it was released and taken away, Jungle Basin and Slag Pits are right next to it. Both of which fit quite well in this pool, though lack the relative uniqueness of most of these other maps including DQ. Should I just add all three? lol.
---
BTW I was serious about this part :D "In all seriousness, these maps will actually probably be very fun for a little bit lol." I'll be on to play later :D

Too imbalanced. You make too many workers to saturate every base, and now you don't have enough TERRIBLE DAMAGE for your army. Duh.

O man I hadn't thought of that! hmmm D:

Finally a concept that incorporates references to my genitalia. I felt discouraged from trying the Fewer Resources Maps because I couldn't read the thread because that Barrin guy made the text so friggin small.
Now with this I can agree because it talks about how BIG my penis is. I know a lot of people might say this isn't important in improving StarCraft II but I feel like it's an essential part of increasing the reach and stamina of StarCraft as an eSpoRt because of the following reasons:
- I can connect much more with a game that allows me to make more BOOM BANG POW with less skill.
- I feel like I am better than the "Pro's" or whatever anyways. So the 12m3g concept will really put their "skill" on the test. If they are so "Pro" or whatever, they shouldn't be scared of more competition.
- Sex sells - Making this change with a clear reference to the size of my/your/everyones genitalia clearly makes you/me/everyone feel better! Not that I would need to feel better in any way. If we were to make this change according to my genitalia we would go for a map that's minerals and gas only. (A lot of gas in the evening or after a good meal at my favorite Indian take-away).
- Terrible Terrible Damage - I am glad that Barrin dude finally got over himself and his idea that Terrible Terrible Damage is bad or whatever. Dude seriously, you into peace and making bracelets from flowers? We are playing a game about resource depletion and war! That hippie-doodlydang about smaller armies and better economy management sounds like the EU to me. I can play "Sun flower-seed eating hitchhiker trying to decrease his carbon footprint by farting in a bag" or something. I am here to play StarCraft! It's all SPACE and DRUGS and FUCKIN' WAR! More resources? More War! Fuck yeah!!!
- Including maps like Steppes of War - Finally a step that works against this mentality of making maps that are bigger and bigger and thus promoting cowardly play like taking lots of expansions and hiding them. This isn't hide and seek. Why waste valuable time on walking an army around when you can have an army unit engage your opponent's mineral line right after it spawns. That's the kinda game that encourages fierce fighting and constant pressure and battle. Less resources means more boredom and filler-actions. People complain about others APM spamming but hell, that's what you got to do when your army has to walk half an hour to the opponents base. You need to keep your hands busy and warmed up. Not with this concept! 12m3g on small maps is exactly the kinda change we need.
Seriously, have some balls guys and go monkey! 12m3g has my full support!
PS.: Please mods remove that horrible thread about "Fewer Resources" and stuff. I think we can all see that Barrin realized that that was very short-sighted and not very well thought through. Thanks!!

Two base in reality becomes five base. No need to spend resources on other bases now. Add some rocks and the maps are perfect.
