According to sc2ranks.com Terran is the least featured race in all leagues except silver and bronze and that worldwide.
And I'm really wondering why? They have some awesome race mechanics and great role models, why are there less and less Terran players?
A while ago when they were the least represented race in M and D some people have been saying that Terran has been balanced for Korean GM level play, and thus is too weak against "good" macro without outatanding control but now they are even dissapearing in the lower leagues.
What makes them stop playing or switch?
I'm really curious about this.
What's your opinion on this, especially if you're a (former) Terran?

Terran is pretty boring. I switched to Z, way more fun.

Part of it is the nerfs. Terran receives a nerf just about every patch. Many of these nerfs are necessary, but it is disheartening when every patch the other guys get better and your race gets worse. It's a psychological thing I think.

Well a lot of my friends have changed to ZERG from Terran, simply because they believe zerg can, if played right, simply outplay terran, and that they weren't getting better at terran, and that they were sick of seeing terrans getting defeated left and right by toss and zerg. I'm still sticking with terran

What's your opinion on this, especially if you're a Terran? This happens in stages all the time as a result due to perceived balance issues, interesting matchups etc. For a long term Zerg had this representation and more recently there was a period of time when Protoss was wildily underplayed, a significant portion of Starcrafts playerbase swaps races at whim which is influenced by current perceptions on the game (which can be misleading or false).

My mate doesn't enjoy terran anymore cause he feels they can be abusive and OP. He doesn't feel like his wins are because of his skill but because of his race.
He's switching to Zerg season 5.

Tons of nerfs, it takes more work at upper levels (as you pointed out Diamond and Masters) and most importantly it's the amount of shit people give to Terran players because they think the race is OP no matter what tournament results say.

Playing Terran feels like playing any other RTS, and people like to feel unique/special so I think that is part of why Terrans are selected less often. Visually, Protoss and Zerg units are very unique from the things you would see in a game like Command and Conquer, and their building mechanics (larva and warp ins) are somewhat unique to the starcraft universe.
That is my best argument I can come up with, besides the overused "Terran is so hard!" argument.

Blizzard 'balances' for the very top of GSL -> game becomes less balanced at lower leagues inc. GM -> people stop playing terran since its underpowered -> terrans disappear from ladder. Seems pretty simple to me!

Umm.. wtf are you talking about. Blizzard has said in the BlizzCons and other interviews hardest thing about balance is balancing for all leagues. Biggest example is the Reaper.
Everyone agreed there needed to be a nerf but the severe Factory requirement was for the lower leagues and team gamers, cause having speed was overpowered. Whilst the pros had control and builds to deal with it.

I've played terran since I started and have considered switching. Other races seem "more fun," possibly just because I haven't really tried them. Anyone else feel this way?
|
I play Terran as masters, THIS IS MY OPINION AND NOTHING MORE! Remember that. I feel like Terran is the hardest race to play, ALTHOUGH I have never really played the other races myself, it is incredibly easy to get rolled over by protoss and completely out macro'd in the mid to later stages of the game by a zerg.
My two cents on the table, I think people get frusterated with Terran when they game goes past 20 minutes because Terran is less forgiving than say protoss. So they switch to a new race. Again that is my opinion.

I stopped playing- Because currently TvP is unplayable for masters. At that level toss has a huge advantage. May be MVP can still win with current nerfs to terran and buffs to toss, but most Terrans in highest 2 leagues outside of Korea are having big problems.

Terran was too hard for my limited time of play, I switched to Z. Oh and I happen to like all match ups as Z, while I hated TvT from my guts.
|
I switched from Terran to random. The main reason is the TvP matchup. I just don't enjoy it and never have. I find the matchup much more enjoyable from the Protoss perspective now that I'm random. I think it's mainly because Terran is pigeonholed into going mmm, 1-basing, or dying. It just gets boring doing the same thing over and over whereas Protoss has so many more viable options available. That's why I love TvZ as Terran, but it's really the only matchup as Terran that I like.

Terran is very abusive at gold and below. Terran really rewards staying on one base for longer than the other two races and this can mean players get a lot of wins without ever expanding. I saw a lot of players getting away with stim timing attacks and stupid builds like 2 port banshee for easy, 1 base wins. I think a lot of these players hit a wall when those no longer work, but they haven't learned any other skills beyond abusing those builds. The terrans that do make it to diamond and beyond do so through more "solid" play that has a longer life. It is sort of like a protoss player who only 4 gates in every game. You hit a wall and likely give up at that point. Zerg and protoss have "fewer" builds that don't require you to expand and slowly learn that more bases is better.

Yeah i can notice that as well, tons of zergs and protoss on ladder and only few terrans. The game design is just bad atm. It is balanced for GSL lvl and utterly bad at lower levels. Terran is as good as your micro is, while toss is relatively easy to play on high lvl with low skill. Tvp right now is a nightmare. I have friends on the same level and toss just wins 90% of the time with few clicks. This has been said 100 times already (look at Cloud posts) but protoss players will tell you there is not a problem at all

I played 30~ ladder games over the last few days and got 20+ Zs, 2 or 3 Ts. Pretty weird.
