- How do you feel getting to the round of 16 through a rather easy path?
I wanted to repay to July so it was a bit disappointing that I had to face him. But nevertheless, I did want to beat him. In my list of zergs that I wanted to beat, I have Fruitdealer, July, and Kyrix. I hope I get the chance to face Kyrix next time…(laugh).
- You only needed to win once to grab your spot so you must have been pretty relaxed.
I think it all worked out well without any pressure. And I had a strategy ready for whoever I had to face on crevasse so the first match didn’t matter to me. I thought about doing an 8 or 9 pool but then decided to drag out to the macro game to have some fun. .
- The builds you showed today were pretty fresh.
Sometimes ZvZ can make your head hurt. The build I used today was the safest build. I know overall I was behind July in terms of the build. But I had the confidence that I could win even from such a situation.
- Was this a build you have prepared for a while?
I had planned to use it against Cezzane in the Super Tournament round of 64 but I lost that game. But it was one that I had planned to use before.
- As you showed in your previous games, it seems like you use the spine crawler more often.
I don’t know if people are aware of this, but the spine crawler is pretty good. It is slow in the beginning of the game so that could be bad but it can be quite effective mid to late game. It is a way to get ahead when you feel like you produced more units (rather than drones) than your opponent.
- The start of the game felt like you were saving up something special. How do you feel about this season?
You never know because I am zerg. It is always uncomfortable when you are zerg… But since I am through for the next season, I will show some things that I prepared in my relaxed state.
- Let’s talk about your previous tournament for a second, you lost quite disappointingly. What was the reason?
I was panicked. I this might sound like an excuse, but in the house next door, there was a baby who kept crying all night, because of that I didn’t get a good sleep and stress built up. I was a mess going into the match. I don’t know how you can play a match in that state of mind.
- You must want to win again. Who do you think will be the toughest test?
I consider everyone a challenge, but I think terran players will be especially tough. I think MVP, sC, Marinking and TOP will especially tough, and of course, all the other players will not be taken lightly.
- You must want to have some revenge against TOP.
I wanted to pick TOP but he was a seeded player. If given the chance, I want to face him again.
- The race for the first 3rd championship must be fierce.
I want to do it first. When I see the round of 16 bracket, I will know whether or not if that is possible. I think maintaining my condition will be the most important.
- Any last comments?
I think my teammate Yoda likes a girl who works at the GOMTV stadium. I hope he can play hard for that person. (laugh). If he plays well, he will see her more often, and she may see him in a better light. I hope he can play well.

▼ 비교적 쉽게 16강에 오른 소감이?
- 박성준 선수에게 갚아줄 게 있었는데 아쉽다. 아쉬우면서도 꺾어보고 싶었다. 저그전을 해보고 싶었던 선수가 원기와 성준이와 한준 선수들이었다. 다음에 기회가 되면 한준 선수를.. (웃음)
▼ 1경기만에 결정될 수 있는 상황이라 부담 없었을 것 같다?
- 부담 없이 잘 된 것 같다. 크레바스에서 누가와도 쓸 전략이 있었기 때문에 상관없었다. 8, 9못하려다가 재미있는 경기 하려고 운영했다.
▼ 오늘 선보인 빌드도 신선했다?
- 저그 전이 머리가 아프긴 하다. 지금 내가 쓴 빌드가 가장 안정적인 빌드다. 빌드로는 성준이한테 밀렸다. 그걸 감안해서도 이길 수 있는 자신있었다.
▼ 사전에 준비해뒀던 빌드였나?
- 슈퍼토너먼트 64강 김정환 선수에게 쓰려다가 패했었다. 원래부터 쓰려고 했던 것이다.
▼ 지난 경기부터 보였지만, 이제 가시촉수를 잘 박는 것 같은데?
- 가시촉수가 사람들이 잘 모르는 것 같은데 정말 좋다. 초반에는 느려서 좋지 않은데, 중-후반 가면 굉장히 좋다. 상대보다 많이 쨋다 싶을 때 더 유리하게 갈 수 있는 방법이다.
▼ 뭔가를 아끼는 듯한 느낌으로 시작한 것 같다. 이번 시즌 예감이 좋을 것 같은지?
- 저그라서 잘 모르겠다. 저그는 항상 불안하니깐… 어차피 다음 시즌도 확정되어 있으니 마음 편하게 준비된 것 보여드리겠다.
▼ 지난 얘기를 잠깐 하면 슈퍼토너먼트에서 아쉽게 패했는데, 이유가 있었나?
- 패닉이었다. 핑계일수도 있지만 경기 전 날, 옆집에서 애기가 우는데도 문을 활짝 열어놓고 울리더라. 그 통에 잠도 못 자고, 스트레스도 쌓여서 엉망진창이었다. 무슨 정신으로 게임을 한 지 모르겠다.
▼ 우승을 하고 싶을텐데, 고비가 될만한 선수가 있다면?
- 모두 다 고비이긴 한데, 테란 선수들이 까다로울 것 같다. 종현이나 승철이, 정훈이등이 굉장히 까다로울 것 같고, 다른 선수들도 쉽진 않을 것 같다.
▼ 김정훈에게 복수하고 싶기도 할텐데..?
- 김정훈 선수를 찍으려 했는데 8강에 시드가 있더라. 기회가 되면 겨뤄보고 싶다.
▼ 3회 우승 쟁탈전이 치열할 것 같다?
- 내가 먼저 하고 싶다. 일단 16강 대진이 나오고 나면 할만할 것 같다. 컨디션 관리가 제일 중요할 것 같다.
▼ 끝으로?
- 우리 팀 최병현 선수가 곰TV 현장에 계신 여자분 중 누군가를 좋아하는 것 같다. 그 분을 위해서라도 열심히 했으면 좋겠다. (웃음) 병현이가 경기를 잘하면 그 분을 자주 볼 것이고, 그 분도 병현이를 좋게 볼 수도 있지 않을까? 힘냈으면 좋겠다.

Trickster‘I want to play well in every match.’

- How does it feel to make it to the round of 16?
This is a time when I have to work especially hard. I actually thought I would lose today because I wasn’t well prepared. But I think I prepared well for the last match so that I could win today.
- You are not associated with any team now. Was practicing harder for you?
I practiced at a PC bang. I practiced with some players that I am friends with.
- Are you looking for a new team?
I guess you can say that. I am in talks with some teams, but I think I will need to talk more with my previous coach.
- With only 1 matchup, practice must have been pretty straight forward?
I just needed to win once to get to the round of 16 so I was relaxed.
- You were chosen by Virus (he picked for July) in the group nominations.
I asked him to pick me and he really did.
- What is your mindset like for this season?
Since it is just me now, I need to get even better results. I need good results if I want to make it to another team…
- Your overall goal this season.
I have talked the talk but haven’t walked the walk so I really want to play good games in every match.
- Anything you want to say to the fans?
I hope they don’t worry too much. I will eventually find a team, and I may end up joining a team very soon. It may be as soon as the end of this week.
- Is Fruitdealer also looking at the same teams?
We are living together, but we are not looking at the same teams. Fruitdealer has had better results so he may get to go wherever he likes.
- Any last comments?
I want to thank everyone who helped me practice. I hope that I can get some good results so that I can buy something tasty for July.

▼ 16강에 진출한 소감은?
- 지금은 열심히 해야 될 때다. 오늘은 연습을 잘 못해서 떨어질 줄 알았다. 마지막 경기를 준비해서 이길 수 있었던 것 같다.
▼ 무소속이 됐다. 경기를 준비하는데 어려움이 있었나?
- PC방에서 연습을 했다. 친분있는 선수들과 연습했다.
▼ 새로운 팀을 찾고 있는 것인가?
- 그렇게 볼 수도 있다. 대화중인 팀도 있긴 한데, 아직 전 감독님과 이야기를 더 해봐야 할 것 같다.
▼ 부전승이 있어 편하게 준비할 수 있었을 것 같은데?
- 한 번만 이겨도 16강에 올라갈 수 있어서 조금 편하게 했다.
▼ 조 지명식에서 박준용이 선택해줬는데?
- 준용이한테 계속 뽑아달라고 했더니 정말 뽑아줬다.
▼ 이번 시즌에 임하는 마음가짐은?
- 혼자기 때문에 성적을 더 잘 내야겠다. 다른 팀에 가려면 성적이 중요하기 때문에….
▼ 이번 시즌 구체적인 목표는?
- 항상 말만 하고 떨어져서 매 경기마다 잘 했으면 좋겠다.
▼ 팬들에게 하고 싶은 말이 있다면?
- 크게 걱정은 안하셔도 된다. 어쩌다보니 팀을 나오게 됐는데, 조만간에 다른 팀에 갈 수도 있을 것 같다. 이번 주 내로 결정될 것 같다.
▼ 김원기도 같은 팀을 알아보고 있나?
- 생활은 같이 하고 있지만, 같은 팀을 알아보는 것은 아니다. 원기의 성적이 더 좋아 원하는 팀이 더 많을 것 같다.
▼ 마지막으로 하고 싶은 말은?
- 연습을 도와준 분들 모두 고맙다. 성적 잘 내서 성준이에게 맛있는 것 사줘야겠다.

- Your thoughts about the win?
I feel like I am flying. I have never lost in the round of 32. Not even 1 loss. It is surprising even to me. To be honest, I thought I would lose today, but I was lucky. I never understood before when people said when others were “lucky” but I can attest to that today.
- You were pretty aggressive overall today?
I have been playing out my games in that style recently. I think I was too defensive before and I didn’t want the games to drag out for so long so I practiced in that fashion. I don’t know if that will be good for my win percentage in the long run, but I saw it work effectively today so I will continue to do so. It is definitely not a complete product.
- The round of 32 format has changed.
It has changed but it also feels the same. You still have to prepare for 4 maps. I lost some confidence recently so I ended up practicing more. I didn’t practice at all for the TvT match in Terminus but I think it went well today. I was lucky.
- Your next round of 16 opponent is Trickster. What are your chances at making the round of 8?
I think Trickster knows me too well. He may be in my head. He is someone I have been playing with since the beginning so it may end up being somewhat uncomfortable but I am looking for some luck.
- With some main members leaving, is the pressure on you bigger now?
I am the oldest now. During practice I am the worst. However, I believe I just need to play my best.
- Are you looking forward to playing in the GSTL and showing off your skills?
I want to go, but among our terrans I think I am the worst.
- As Fruitdealer and Trickster left has the GSTL become harder for you?
No. I think after practice our team has grown so much in skill.
- Your usual image has been a very mannered and modest player so people say that you are lacking in ambition to win.
I think amongst the 32 playing vying for the championship I want it the most. What I seem like at the group nomination isn’t the whole me. I practice my heart out. I will show that in the round of 16.
- Do you consider yourself the player who most players like to practice with?
I have helped many players practice. I just like helping people. That way, when I need help, I can get help in return.
- Any last comments?
I have never lost on a day I ate Samgyeopsal. Today, Killer cooked some for me. It was really good and I ate until I was full. Both him and Heart helped me a lot. They gave me a lot of advice and so I am really thankful. I don’t know what it looks from the outside looking in, but we are 7 players who are tightly wound and work well together. Do not worry. You will see that for yourself when you see us in the GSTL. I also want to thank GuineaPig, Sage and HwangSin for helping me practice.

▼ 승리한 소감은?
- 날아갈 것 같다. 32강에선 진 적이 없다. 1패도 안했다. 나도 신기하다. 솔직히 오늘은 질 것 같았는데, 운이 좋았다. 그동안 사람들이 '운이 좋다' 그러면 이해가 안갔는데, 나는 정말 운이 좋은 것 같다.
▼ 오늘 상당히 공격적인 자세를 보였는데?
- 최근에 그런식으로 게임을 하고 있다. 그동안 너무 수비적이고 질질 끄는 맛이 없지 않아 있어서 연습을 그렇게 했다. 승률은 좋지 않아도 언젠간 효과를 보리라 생각하고 공격적으로 하고 있다. 아직 완성 단계는 아니다.
▼ 32강 대진 방식이 바뀌었는데?
- 바뀌어도 똑같은 것 같다. 맵을 4개를 준비해야했다. 자신감이 좀 떨어져서 졌을 경우의 연습을 더 많이 했다. 종착역 테테전 준비는 한 판도 안했는데, 운이 좋았던 것 같다.
▼ 16강 상대가 서기수다. 8강 진출 가능성은?
- 기수형이 나를 너무 잘아는 것 같다. 내 머리 속에 있는 것 같다. 초창기부터 같이하던 형이라 불안하긴 하지만 운도 노려봐야 할 것 같다.
▼ 주력 멤버들이 나가면서 어깨가 무거워졌을 것 같은데?
- 맏형이긴 하다. 연습을 하면 내가 제일 못한다. 그래서 ‘나만 잘하면 된다’라는 생각이다.
▼ GSTL에 출전해서 실력을 보이고 싶기도 할텐데?
- 나가고 싶은데 테란 중에 제일 못한다.
▼ 김원기, 서기수가 나가면서 GSTL에 지장은 없는지?
- 지장은 없다. 연습을 해보니 팀원들 실력이 너무 많이 늘었다.
▼ 평소 선하고 겸손한 이미지라 독기가 부족한 것 아니냐란 말이 있는데?
- 아마 32명 중에 우승하고픈 마음이 제일 클 것이다. 조지명식에서 보여진 모습이 전부가 아니다. 악착같이 연습하고 있다. 16강에서 보여주겠다.
▼ 제일 많이 등장하는 연습상대가 한규종 본인이다?
- 연습을 도와달라는 선수가 많다. 그냥 도와주는 편이다. 그래야 내가 필요할 때도 도움을 받을 수 있기 때문이라 생각한다.
▼ 끝으로?
- 삽겹살 먹은 날 진 적이 없다. 오늘 상호가 삽겹살을 구워줬다. 너무 맛있었고 배불리 먹었다. 상호 민혁이도 도움을 많이 줬다. 조언을 해줬다. 너무 고맙다. 밖에서 보기엔 어떨 지 모르겠지만 7명이서 똘똘 뭉쳐있고 걱정하지 않으셔도 될 것 같다. GSTL 때 경기를 보시면 확인하실 수 있을 것이다. 연습을 도와준 김현태 선수, 우경철 선수, 황승혁 선수에게 감사 드린다.

- Your thoughts about making the round of 16?
I got here by beating a friend, I want to play even harder in the future for their sake.
- You didn’t go down in the last up and down, but your overall play has been lacking as of late, what do you think?
I really prepared a lot for the super tournament. But the games went so poorly that I was depressed.
- Then did the games today make you feel better?
It may be because I was facing off against my friends but I think the games went very well.
- You had to beat viOlet twice to advance.
I felt sorry. Even after the game I had to say sorry to him in the chat.
- In watching the first game, it felt like you came back to your senses when showing off some of your control.
Rather than playing games, I have been working out more. It may not help in the game, but I think keeping up with your outer body is also helpful.
- Your next round of 16 opponent is Nestea?
I think Nestea may be more afraid than me. He lost to TOP recently and I have a lot of builds in my hand so he may overthink it. I am confident.
- Your teammates have been having good results, do you feel motivated?
Yes, I feel like I have to play even harder. I have to think that way so that I don’t become satisfied and continuously practice hard.
- Your goal for this season?
I have not picked one yet but I may already have achieved it. Yesterday I thought to myself “what should I do” because my condition was so bad.
- Any last comments?

- 친한 선수들 꺾고 올라왔는데, 앞으로도 더 열심히 하고 분발해야 될 것 같다.
▼ 지난 승강전에서 탈락하진 않았지만 최근 경기력이 떨어져있었는데 본인 생각은?
- 슈퍼토너먼트 때 준비는 정말 많이 했었다. 경기가 너무 풀리지 않아 우울했었다.
▼ 그럼 오늘 경기는 어느정도 해소된 것인가?
- 오늘은 경기할 때 친한 선수들과 대화해서인지 잘 됐던 것 같다.
▼ 공교롭게도 김동환만 두 번 잡고 올라왔는데?
- 미안하더라. 경기 후에도 채팅창으로 미안하다고 했다.
▼ 첫 경기에서 보인 컨트롤을 보이 감이 살아난 것 같다?
- 게임보단 운동을 열심히 하고 있다. 본의 아니게 탈이 났지만 외적인 부분도 보완하는 것이 도움이 되는 것 같다.
▼ 16강 상대가 임재덕인데?
- 아마 재덕 형님이 더 두려워 하실꺼라 생각한다. 최근 정훈이에게도 패하셨고 내가 많은 전략을 가지고 있어서 머리가 아프실 것 같다. 자신 있다.
▼ 팀원들의 성적이 좋은데 자극 받게 되는지?
- 자극보단 앞으로 열심히 하겠단 생각을 한다. 그렇다고 생각만 하는 것으로 만족하지 않고 열심히 연습해야 할 것 같다.
▼ 이번 시즌 목표는?
- 딱히 정하진 않았는데 초과 달성한 것 같다. 어제 컨디션이 너무 안 좋아서 ‘어떡하지?’ 란 생각을 했었다.
▼ 끝으로?
