The iCCup Mapmaking Team is proud to announce it's latest addition: Koagel!. After seeing some of the terrific work that Koagel has contributed not only to the community but to the mapmaking team, I had to extend an invitation to him.
Koagel has been blowing the community away for quite some time now with his absolutely stunning visual effects in Starcraft 2 maps. The iCCup Mapmaking Team will be using his skills to drastically improve aesthetics on our maps.
Introducing Oliver "Koagel" GamMy name is Oliver "Koagel" Gam, as of now I'm a 23 year old 4th year medical student from Vienna, Austria. I've drawn for pretty much all my life, and started texturing some years ago while being in some Doom3 mod team that, like most mods, died a slow death. Got luckier a bit later with "The Ball", originally a mod for UT3, that eventually went retail. Visit the site, http://www.theballthegame.com/, download the demo, buy the game if you like it . I did concept art, textures and the german translation for it. In SC2, I'm still rather one of the behind the scenes mapmaking guys than a player, and as such, better at (and more interested in) the aesthetics than at doing the layouts. I care most about my own development as an artist, and want to create the most beautiful/creative maps I can. In my opinion, if you stopped getting better, you started to suck.
If you are unfamiliar with Koagel's work, here's some examples. You can also find more by checking out his collaboration efforts in the Teamliquid.net SC2 Custom Map forum.

Awesome!
I really hope that all of the hard work of your team gets the credit you guys deserve.

Just wanted to post that this map is the first of any iccup map that I truly truly like. Very cool
|
Cool to see someone from my hometown involved with iCCup Hope you do well and show us some awesome stuff ^_^
|
Holy fffff that map is beautiful
|
Yeah, Vienna ftw. Should get a beer sometime.
EDIT: Btw, in case someone's wondering: I'm still free to do collaborations with people outside of iCCup when I have the time to do so.
|
That's great news. Aesthetics have been my biggest problem with the non-blizzard maps that have been made. A talented terrain artist should make for great improvements in this category though. Can't wait.

Everytime I see one of those awesome new maps, I die a little inside when jumping on the ladder the first time after that. :/

Why does Iccup have a SC2 map making squad when Blizzard has no intention of putting your maps into ladder rotation? Also, weren't most of iccup maps for Broodwar just ripped off from the Korean pro circuits and renamed Iccup Destination for example?

We are managed entirely by iCCup.TV

Is it bad that I thought City of the Sun was Marine Arena?
Great work and hope to see more by Koagel.
|
Grats Koagel! I am consistently amazed by your aesthetic touch.
|
Congrats Koagel!
Looking forward to some great stuf

That cottage/farm looks absolutely gorgeous, and I never use that word! It's hard to believe that thing was made using the sc2 editor. Looking at City of the Sun you can really tell this guy has got talent. Nice snag, iCCup!

I just had an in-game look at the new Starlight Breaker; the lighting had this really odd super high-contrast look. Is that intentional, or is that some artifact of my graphics settings (I play on Medium)?
|
Glad to have you Koagel! Great addition to the team.

This is how it looks for me: + Show Spoiler + I do usually put the contrast up a bit, but it's hard to judge if this qualifies as the super odd high contrast look you mean.
