abandoned due to:- Unfair advantages for certain races.
- Too big total size
- Size of expo's too small
- Other flaws I'm not happy with
This map may will be re-made at a later time when I am more experienced.
City of the Sun
City of the Sun or CotS is a map based on the broodwar map Empire of the Sun. Although it is based on a broodwar map, the entire map was made from scratch. So I didn't utilize the Convert Legacy function.
I wanted to recreate this map for SC2 cause I'm still an avid viewer of BW scene in S.Korea and Empire of the Sun, which debuted in 2010-11 Shinhan Proleague, was one of those maps where every game was just as exciting as games could get. The reason I create maps for SC2 is because I hope one day, one of these maps will be used in a match between great SC2 players and I'll be able to watch how they duke it out on the map. I started creating maps for SC2 from the perspective of a player, a terran player some might say even. But I think I made a switch to creating maps from a spectators point of view and by having done this, I think my maps are much more exciting that the previous ones.
Major differences:- Higher mains
- Lower terrain at natural for harassing
- Implemented gold base
- One main attack path through the center instead of three
- Unbuildable center and inner ring

First of all, very appealing design. You've put a lot of time into all those doodads, decals and textures. Inspired by Blade Runner? Anyways, looks great!
What I can tell from the the pictures - all bases seem rather small. Especially the third expansion, you definitely need to have more space there. Not only for buildings, but also to move units around as well.

no closer wide angled overview picture (my favorite kind)?
|
The stairs are brilliant doodad work.
As far as the layout goes, my one issue is that the naturals are a bit cramped. Otherwise looks really cool
|
Uuuuuuw looks shiny
Very nice work

textures + stairs are pretty boss i must say.
did you just go bonkers on decal work to make the stairs?
looking closer i can answer that myself, nice work.

The stairs are a great idea. Looks like a bunch of Ground Props #1. Good use of doodads.
Unfortunately I feel like the aesthetic design outshines the layout. The main/natural/third all feel very small and stuffed into the corners, yet the center area is quite large. The use of space could be better balanced.

^This.
The stairs are a beautiful and genius design.
The bases are cramped. The natural and main are the most important bases that need a size increase, but the third isn't as important. It could still use a size increase.

Worked on a EotS Port during xmas myself and now i must see this one t_T Nice textures but i gonna stick to my version which seems to be closer to the original (don't get me wrong - this one is still quite awesome).
//edit Please add some Analyzer pictures for the distance (main 2 main (cross / close / far position)).

The moment I saw the name I knew that it was going to be a remake of EoTS and I was right.
The map looks great.....looks like it could promote some really good positional play which means that a meching terran is going to have a good advantage
|
This looks beautiful! Blizzard should really start promoting the usage of these kinds of maps!

in my humble opinion, I think your map would be improved if you removed the gold the way the original was. When bases are so close they become almost like one larger base and it removes tension between the two sides. by doing so you could also give your 3rd a little more room
|
Map is really nice but not Blade runner level, you guys need to go and rewatch it now!

so the first map is like shakuras plateau + Empire of the Sun this because that would be cool for terran promoting some positional mech play. I just realized that I made this comment on another thread where you just gave us a preview through analyzer pics.
but your third seems like a a pocket rather than a base....its very compact.

This is the coolest map I've ever seen! I wouldn't change a thing.
|
I might've put XNWTs instead of gold expansion in the side-centers, but otherwise, I can't imagine a nicer adaptation of the map.
|
I like it! However, it seems almost too open. Perhaps if the center was stairs leading to water?
|
Wow such a nice map, couldnt wait after them teaserscreenshots you posted a while ago
Very very very nice, easily one of the best maps (graphical) ive ever seen.
The 3rd expo seems like theres not alot of room for... well basicly anything apart from a CC it looks like. Can you maybe whack a screenshot of that area with a nexus or something there, to see how much space there is left?
edit: wow i just cant stop looking at it )

Awesome. We get a lot maps that seem like they are structured well for a competitive game, but they often just do not have the aesthetic level necessary to look professional. Great job fulfilling both!
I think it is one of the first maps that blizzard could realistically add to the map pool.
