[IEM] Kiev Discussion - Page 88

At any point of IEM Kiev, if you think of an interesting byline, please drop a sentence in the Pro Scene thread. (e.g. "Day 2: M5 hype was everything people expected")

At the end of the month, I'll catalogue the results of Kiev but also any interesting facts or events that happen over the course of the tournament.

Thanks.

Cheers for this - nice and extensive analysis from Jatt, e.g.

"Some things I want to keep an eye on in the semi-finals is how completely desolate top lane was in the group stage. People weren't ganking top, people weren't dying top. Essentially the only purpose of the top laner was to show up in dragon fights. Why was nobody ganking top? I'm not sure. Could it be the new jungle offers so much reward for fast clearing (see Shyvanna) that ganking top is just not viable? I really want to see if top lane continues to see such extremely limited action during the semi-finals.

Games are also ending really, really fast. This is another trend that i'm trying to figure out. I think it's a combination of people being substantially better than they used to be, and the new masteries.

People who gain an advantage now are much better at pushing that advantage. We aren't seeing the poor tower dives or the forced barons, we are just seeing crisp play that results in quick decisive victories. The masteries could also be playing a small part in this. With the reworks to masteries people are gaining power more quickly, therefore a small gold advantage now means more in terms of strength than it used to pre-mastery rework."

Remarkably clear-headed breakdown of each lane for TSM vs Dignitas, too.

Stats time! Now that the groupstage is over I was interested in how good some of the top bans and picks really are.

Top 20 picks/bans so far:

Karthus 12 picks or bans (most banned champion)
Rammus 12
Cassiopeia 10
Graves 10 (most picked champion with Taric)
Morgana 9
Irelia 8
Lee Sin 7
Skarner 7
Vayne 7
Sona 7
Taric 7
Riven 6
Kassadin 6
Nunu 6
Kennen 6
Maokai 6
Sivir 6
Ryze 5
Shaco 5
Soraka 5

Most successfull champions by position (only if picked/banned five or more times):

Jungle: Rammus (4 Wins, 0 Losses) - Maokai (3 Wins, 1 Loss)
AD Carry: Sivir (4 Wins, 2 Losses)
AP Carry: Ryze - Kassadin (both 2 Wins, 0 Losses)
Support: Sona (5 Wins, 1 Loss) - Nunu (3 Wins, 1 Loss), Soraka (3 Wins, 0 Losses)
Solo Top: Irelia (4 Wins, 2 Losses)

Overrated champions (?):

Cassiopeia - banned in 8, picked in 2 games, 0 wins
Vayne - 1 win, 4 losses
Taric - picked 7 times, only won 1 game
Riven - 1 win, 3 losses
Shaco - banned in 3, picked in 2 games, 0 wins

Shaco very overrated. Can't believe the taric though, guess sustain is greater than stun

After watching all the matches from youtube, Moscow 5 feel like the most kiddo team ever (that troll interview with their solo top seriously...) but damn their play is impressive, especially bot lane where they really play agressiv.
They are really fast to focus someone, kill him, and Nunu...

Not surprised at all by Taric, but I think Cassiopeia is too small of a sample size - 0-2 in picks with 8 bans is definitely a threatening champion. Maybe after Riot's done with Kayle, they can do Taric next zz.

People will keep picking him, because he's ~a SuPpOrT~, but he and Sona are the only 'supports' that can't take a solo, and Taric is definitely not Sona.

e: Nunu support proves that it's not just about having sustain, Janna is fine as well if you don't do something stupid like Janna/Vayne. Taric's kit is just so bad without E / after 20 minutes.
tree.hugger: Coming off of [(T)fantasy v. (T)Really] into [(T)Barracks v. (T)MVP] is like coming out of Manhattan into New Jersey. You just have to speed up and ignore it.

This is boiling down to a TSM M5 finals.

These guys are so long overdue for their showdown.

Can I ask why the stream is showing aAa vs m5?

Sorry I didn't notice it hasn't been played, does this actually affect any outcomes for finals?

12 weeks comfirmed to be "soon" on esltv_event (aka the one which has had LoL all tourney) by Bitter. So guess the games will start after that.

Edit: which is...now. ~_~

Hearing ocalot on stream now talking about his 20,5 K/D ratio when its listen several posts above makes me wonder if he reads TL :p
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

Ocelote coaching Cass is really interesting. It's not as useful if you watch it just to learn the champion, but it's interesting to hear his thoughts about the game in general, certain champs and how IEM Kiev is going in general. Entertaining for sure.

Also: Bitter being the awesome bauss he is.
currently rooting for myself.

Also they probably did this with very little preparation time. In the studio with MrBitter with a few days of prep things should turn out even better
