This is a video showing you PC assembly. You can decide for yourself if it really looks all that complicated. Pay close attention to the shapes of different cables, and the fact that they only really fit in the place they're supposed to go.

Between that video and this board, we've gotten a LOT of people through assembly on their first PC, along with troubleshooting anything that comes up due to inexperience.

We're really not trying to be elitists saying build it, we're trying to get you a PC with better warranty, better components, and ideal performance, all for less money than a prebuilt.

What is the difference between this processor and an i3 2100? Just the clock speed?

EDIT: Also, how would I use two screens on this computer build? Would I need to get a dedicated graphics card?

Here you can build up a computer

You will need an i5-2400
cheapest H61 motherboard (all is compatible, so just go with the cheapest of the list)
cheapest 8gb ram
probably the MSI gtx560ti
after the case is to your likings
PSU get a corsair or antec unit
Samsung spintpoint F3 1tb for the HDD
and probably a little crucial m4 SSD

Celeron G530 compared to Core i3-2100:
  • Lower clock speed
  • No hyperthreading (a bigger deal on a dual core than a quad core IMHO)
  • 1MB less L3 cache
  • no AVX support
  • no Intel Quick Sync Video, InTru 3D, Clear Video HD, Wireless Display, or 3D Video
  • 100 mHz lower max integrated graphics clock speed

Thanks for replying. Obviously someone that ask advices here has no experience in building a computer. Anyway which one would you recommend from this website? And yeah is it safe to ship one from UK to Belgium?

Well honestly I'd just order from hardwareversand.de. Like, let me set up a 600€ computer up for you. Also you probably aren't up to task for overclocking but if you feel like you want to, say so and I'll redo the build.

http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/7135/examplebuild2.png

Doesn't include windows etc but those can be altered if necessary. Also afaik rechner zusammenbau means computer assembly but if that's wrong please tell me <.<

Clock speed, hyper threading, cache, integrated graphics and price and slow video decoding and whatever else were the numerous features they disabled

Ya I overlooked the fact that VS only has one video output. You can get a Biostar: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138313 or the Asrock H61M U3S3: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157236

Yeah actually, what model Dell Optiplex is it? What does it really look like?

Many small cases will only fit half-height video cards, but few will only take a single slot video card, unless the computer already has other expansion cards already in the way. I'm not that familiar with Dell Optiplex models, but I suspect that few or none are mini-ITX, with only one expansion slot? MicroATX is the most common for desktop computers.

Just checking.

It's an Optiplex 745. It's a full tower, but the heatsink and fan and ducting is one giant piece which prohibits me to fit anything serious in there. I was originally planning to use it for myself and put a GTX 460 in it, BUT no room length wise or height wise to fit a card that beefy in there. I went budget and used the CPU from the Dell and RAM, just found a used mobo and bought a new case and PSU. I will prob upgrade to a Q6600 for OC and get some new RAM.

If she shows some real interest, I will build something a bit more gaming oriented for her. If not, oh well... I got an upgrade out of it.

XFX 450W Core Edition Single Rail ATX 12V 34A PSU

Planning to order this psu which costs 35 after rebates, but just wondering: are there any better alternatives? Planning to do a bit of overclocking. My resolution is 1600x900.

So far i have:
GTX 460 1GB
Core i5 2500k
Seagate 7200rpm 1TB
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB 1600 Mhz

Also, can someone recommend me a decent case and a motherboard? I'm leaning towards the ASRock P67 PRO3 right now. Thanks in advance!

There is no better power supply than the XFX Core Edition Pro 450 in its price range.

You should not be getting a GTX 460 for $100 when the Radeon HD6850, HD6870, and GTX 560 all outperform it and are less expensive.

The Asrock P67 Pro3 is a good choice.

I've been told by people under NDA that Bulldozer (or AMD's CPU division more like) is dead. Obviously no particular details but looking at Chinese leaks (which isn't actually a half bad source for leaks, they were 100% on the money when it came to Sandy Bridge reaching 4.7Ghz and desktop Llano performance), Bulldozer gets fucked over by the high end Phenom II 975 BE.

Downright tragic if those benchmarks are true. The fact AMD is getting close to missing the deadline by 6 months and have cut prices by like $100 on all of their SKUs should rather telling of actual performance.

Hasn't this already been a speculation since the whole bapco fiasco?

And I mean more so, than from previous speculations.
