Pay close attention to the shapes of different cables, and the fact that they only really fit in the place they're supposed to go. Between that video and this board, we've gotten a LOT of people through assembly on their first PC, along with troubleshooting anything that comes up due to inexperience. We're really not trying to be elitists saying build it, we're trying to get you a PC with better warranty, better components, and ideal performance, all for less money than a prebuilt. Another great video is the NewEgg one here; Its pretty detailed for the newer builders.

now i have another, simpler question: I found an old computer at work and it lives. it unfortunately has 4g of hard drive (2.75 of which is taken up by system stuff) and 128 mb of ram. If i were to try to use it for a simple car rental program (about 3 gigs itself) would it be easy and cheap to upgrade a few pieces of it, or am i better off just starting with parts made after 1995? thanks in advance for any help! Lawnie Uhm... it will probably cost more to upgrade with compatible shit, it's hard to find that stuff. Build a $300-400 SB Pentium machine for 50x the power.

Build a $300-400 SB Pentium machine for 50x the power. nah just need the Celeron G530, it's more than enough if the program indeed is relatively simple(should be if you're considering a 1995 PC). celeron 50$ mobo 50$ 2gb memory 12$, integrated graphics, 300W PSU 25-30$, a random case, maybe an optical drive for 17$ and the whole computer will total at less than 200$ without an OS. windows vista can be bought for like 30-50$ so that could be an option, as well as XP as I doubt you'd need the 100$ win7

But that's mostly personal preference. But yeah, $300-400 was including an OS and a decent speed HDD.

I still don't think the pentium is significantly enough better as the celeron has like 90% of its performance or close
