I consider KnK one of the better novels written in any language. It has a nice combination of wonder, action, and deep, thought-provoking ponderings about the mind, body, and soul.

Like with LotR, though, the movies end up taking quite a few liberties, often because there's not enough material (movie 1) or because they don't want to have people blasting out speeches, no matter how profound or significant to the story they may be.

As a result, you'll end up with three bizarre movies (1, 6, and 7) that were borne out of, respectively, trying to make a movie out of a few pages, reducing a hugely significant "side" character to nothingness, and then finding that by removing these things they've diluted 7 from mediocre status (it was already less effective than 5/6 in the novels due to 5) to "really?" This finally results in the absence of the mind-blowing epilogue being un-noticeable, and it'll be interesting to see if any pure-film-watcher (as in, people who haven't read the novel) will even understand the point of it.

That said, if you're fan of the Nasu world (Tsukihime, Fate/Stay Night), you'll definitely find it worth the watch (considering many hail it as his best work), and if you like some serious, often-times gruesome, and sometimes thought-provoking storytelling then you'll find it worth your while. You also probably will need to watch (and/or read) it a few times to pick up on a lot of the little details that lead to theorizing, speculation, etc.

Also, the main character is one of the most charismatic ever :3

Have the books been translated into english and if they have what's the english title? Might go read them first.

The first movie was okayish, but not great.

Since I've only ever watched the movies, I'm not sure which side character you are talking about that got reduced to nothingness in Movie 6. Movie 6 was the one that was mainly about Proto-Akiha, right? Which character had a reduced role, and how did this effect movie 7? Feel free to spoiler me as much as you want, I've already watched all the movies.

From just my experience from watching the movies, I thought 6 and 7 were ok. Personally I liked them more than Movie 1.

Hahah, in the books ch1 + Show Spoiler +
was basically the speeches about human limitation (the rooftop speech). The ghosts are immobile so Shiki just walks up and kills her. Half the chapter was the conversation between Touko and Kirie, which takes more weight when you realize Kohaku/Hisui from Tsukihime are also from the same linage Also by this point Touko knows Araya is involved...

As for movie 6, Ecael and I touched on it at length before:
+ Show Spoiler +

I don't know. I'd very much like to see more of the witches/mages' side of the world. That's part of the reason why I'm looking forward to Witches. For instance, the dynamics of Touko/Aoko (thus far the only witch vs magus blood line), Touko/Cornelius/Souren (Cornelius simply got beaten on in the movie - in the novels it was made clear he was actually a very strong attack magus, but he ended up obsessing over puppeteering), Souren/Aragiri Satsuki/Church (Church wanting to store Satsuki for research, and Souren was gunning after Satsuki, evidently wanting him to re-wire Shiki's memory), were fascinating in Rakkyo, despite how little focus they actually got.

Those three in particular from Rakkyo are why I was interested in Souren. He's obviously a nearly-unstoppable heat-seeking missile toward his goals, but he remarked having "run into a wall" (ala Touko and herself), and it'd be interesting seeing what turned him from "the three friends" into "hi, die."

Edit:
Incidentally, I found KurogirI Satsuki incredibly fascinating; at least his story, and his evident place in the power struggle that was the Magicians' Church. It's a shame the movie had absolutely no way to reproduce his impact on the philosophy in the story - chapter 7 was more a tying of loose ends and an odd morality pondering over "murder," but chapter 6 - his and Azaka's chapter - seemed most like Rakkyo's conclusion.

Satsuki's presence in chapter 6 was most intriguing, just randomly showing up and being one of the most influential characters in the book is something. You are right though, the real conclusion of any kind occured in chapter 6, chapter 7 was pretty much just one to tie up the loose ends and give us one last replay on how all the events culminate in the Shiki now. Shame the movie really had no way of being like that even if they had followed the novel closer.

I'm at class though, if Ecael doesn't expound on it later I'll do it.

I cleared 2 routes in Yume Miru Kusuri.
I did the class rep route first, since the girl seemed most appealing >_>, was a nice story, I enjoyed it, but + Show Spoiler +
When she came back practically with a baby in hand (she gave birth like 2h after coming?) I cringed a little. Guess that teaches me to NEVER forget a condom lol!

After that I did the bullied girl route. It still makes me nauseous when I think about it. That kind of bullying... and everyone was a silent accomplice practically. Really depressing.

I'm not really interested in drugged cat-girls, but I might do the 3rd route just for the sake of completion ~.~

It's not fully translated, and I suspect it never will be. The VNs for Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night, on the other hand, are completely translated.

Anyways, as you’re probably aware, KnK as a whole has an underlying tale about the relationship between mind, body, and soul.
From a chapter chronology perspective, this is how the work jerks you around:
+ Show Spoiler +
1) Bodies and mind/soul can be split (Fujou bloodline) and relation between the body and mind (rooftop speech) is explored by Touko.
2) The nature of Shiki (pre-accident) is revealed: she appears to be dual-personality and has a crushing desire to kill. Again, the disconnect between mind/soul and body is emphasized as two mind/souls reside in one body and she talks about how the Shikis feel like polar opposites.
3) Via Fujino the purpose of the body is explored quite heavily. If you remember Touko’s line, “not having a body means not having anything; without it, you never feel pain, and without feeling pain, you never feel elation; and without feeling elation, you never feel the pleasure of accomplishment.” Also interesting is that in the book this chapter explores the difference between magus and superpowers. Superpowers are described as channels, and I can expound on this later if you want because I LOVE this explanation.
4) Four symbolizes a huge “revelation” of sorts as you realize that Shiki was never dual personality. But via the reference “to the hole inside her” you’re left with an unanswered question of what’s going on. The relationship between mind, body and soul is really central to this chapter as Shiki picks up on the speech mannerisms of the deceased Shiki while several forces fight over her body.
5) Via Araya Souren there’s huge emphasis on the soul; this chapter does a LOT. Touko reveals that she’d already created complete clones of herself (body and mind/soul) that always resulted in the same thing; via the Kigen the soul and ancestry/evolution/generations of souls are explained, and then there’s that very, very subtle hint. That oh so very subtle hint when Shiki “wakes up” out of being comatose. Araya believes this is the Ryougi thing about self-hypnosis. There’s an obvious implication of the body simply being a vessel; Shiki’s murderous intent is born from her Kigen of the null, and there’s a lot of hypothesizing about the relation between her null Kigen and the Acasic Record.
6) And then there is Kurogiri Satsuki. Aside from his interesting position in between all parties, he’s actually the symbol for the mind. Satsuki in the novel is actually a guy who lost his past because “of the mischief of fairies;” he’s not actually a magus (as he was described in the movie) because he has little to no magical powers, he’s more an ESPer (ala the ch 3) who happens to be able to speak to and understand everything; as a result of his loss of memory due to the fairies he actually trained really hard under the supervision of the magus church to try to retrieve memories. In fact, via his Goddot Word superpower he’s possibly the only character in the Nasuverse who has direct access to the Acasic Record and doesn’t give a fuck. However, he realized that his memories are absolutely lost because they’re not in the Acasic Records – this is puzzling, but yeah. For reasons not fully explained, he takes off from the supervision (aka captive life) under the Church and becomes hunted, because he’s a wanted man for his direct connection to the Acasic Record. Araya manipulates a very willing to comply Satsuki toward Ryougi, in order to awaken her memories. As a result of Satsuki’s apathetic (and even sadistic) compliance, as a result of this chapter all the memories and thoughts of the deceased Shiki return to her, making her “whole” again, but exacerbating the pain of having lost part of her. This obviously displays the difference between mind and soul, and makes you realize MPD = multiple minds, Ryougi = multiple souls, and the mind is distinctly separate from the soul as Satsuki extracted the remaining mind and reconnected it in her.
7) This is why we said 7 was lame by comparison. This was just a tying of loose ends of the story of Ryougi Shiki. Nothing was revealed here that we didn’t know already. But that leaves…
8) The Epilogue. Mind-blowing. One night, Ryougi Shiki wakes up. This is neither of the Shiki we have come to know, but rather the original; this is the Shiki Kokutou fell in love with (the Shiki that was taking a walk in the snow), this could be the Shiki that woke up on her own accord during the events of chapter 5. To this point we’d been lead on to think of the body as a necessary vessel, and it comes to pass that the body has its own sentience. She reveals that "Shiki"'s murderous intent comes from HER, and seems to imply that she swims around in the Acasic Record as she pleases. But her body shouldn't be anything special, hmm? Because all the Ryougi family does is make it so multiple souls can inhabit the body, etc. Now go through the book again. A lot of little subtleties start to make sense…

Enjoy.

Star Driver is decent. The only thing that stands out in Star Driver is the animation during the Mecha battles in each episode. Other than that, meh.

Hm, it's kind've a tough call. If you're looking for something to watch and you like mecha than you'd probably enjoy it. It's fairly borderline/slightly above average all around, with I suppose the music and fight scenes shining the most. I'm optimistic for the rest of the series after episodes 8/9, but be wary there's a couple of meh episodes in the middle there, if you're going to start watching :x.

Well it's made by Bones right?

I've watched Xam'd and am currently watching Eureka (Seven), both of which are by them.

I gotta say, they did produce some good mechs so it might be good to watch. Though I have to say that Xam'd's romance ended up pissing me off and the MC from Eureka is also getting annoying.

Other than that though, now that it's Bones, I'll take a look after I finish Eureka and all the other recommendations that are popping up.

Can anyone recommend me a seinen manga with characters 18+ that has no real anime adaption and is already complete? No Shin Angyo Onshi, Sanctuary, Heat, Island (and Zipang) please. No one shots(Hotel, Present etc) either. Really need to read something interesting :/

depends on what you wanna play. When you want a depressing game Swan Song is the way to go.
If you want a bigger focuss on the h-scenes there is one that would probably get me banned when I write the gamename here ^^.

I just finished Hitomi - My Stepsister - and had a wtf face most of the time.

When you want to try an eroge with a RTS flavor you should give Sengoku Rance a try.

Otherwise I would recommend Kira Kira that one was really good too.

All around great drama plus lovestory would be Clannad but it has no h-scenes but when you dont mind that I would recommend that you play Clannad before Kira Kira

It mostly takes place when the characters are in their 30s. But the childhood parts aren't that much. They're very important to the story though.
