Thats the hole point. You ever noticed that there are only HIGH diamond? The system is designed so everyone thinks this. Thats the hole reason behind all this ladder/tiers/points. To give you the wrong feeling you get promoted soon,. Where getting promoted is another scam because its just a random offset that gives you an little shiny image ingame. Also that someone is in a league higher dont have to mean he is higher skilled! ( because you dont get instant demoted/promoted)

Many points means in most cases not more skill it just showes that this player plays more than others.

I understand why they do it but i think, that most gamers, just want to know how good they are.
I think the ladder system is even harder because it gives you an hope that it can not hold.
It let you think you are soon master and also let you think that the master offset (promotion ) is a basic goal to reach.
In real you are at point X and there is another point y(master), thats ahead. There is a point y for everyone. The idea behind the bnet skill system is to lie to make you feel better. I think it lie and let you feel worse.

I would delete all the promotion lines because i think the number is more important than the icon. But im realistic enough to know that most people want to see this promotions line first.

Yes, it is a little different in masters league because you don't have the tiers.

In diamond you can be a 'high diamond' of a low tier, but when compared to the rest of diamond your mid / low overall once you take into account tiers. I.e. someone in the middle / bottom of a 'top' tier could be equal to you.

Masters works differently in the sense that there are no tiers, someone in one division is equally compared against someone in another. Therefore if you're in top 8 in masters you don't have the same situation where you may be equal to the 'middle' of another division. Saying that, it's correct to state that points (hence top 8) don't matter at all, but rather your hidden MMR which the tool tries to calculate that matters in terms of promotion. Therefore someone could theoretically be in the top 8 of a masters division and still be far away from promotion to GM.

Hi i downloaded the latest version 3.1.3 and now my MMR tool says DMMR and does not show division tiers enymore, is that suppose to be that way? eny way to get my division tters back?

To add to what others have said so far, it's important to know two fundamental things about the ladder.

1. Blizzard's goal is to keep everyone playing across all skill levels. For lower leagues (and in this I mean all leagues below Master) this can be challenging because players have to remain motivated. That is why DMMR and the bonus pool exist. DMMR allows players to earn points even if they are not going 50/50 in their league, and the bonus pool allows players to earn even more points even if they're not going 50/50. Blizzard's design structure for the ladder has always been locally focused on player divisions so that by playing enough and being good enough in your skill bracket, you can reach the top of your division.
2. Players say they want to determine their true skill which is why they want MMR shown, but this is short-lived because most players will plateau and stop improving at a point. If all the obfuscators were removed from the ladder and only your Elo rating were shown, I'm sure we would see increasing falloff the farther down the ladder we looked. The reason for this is that over time, each player will have an "Elo peak" which represents their highest skill level so far attained, and without dramatic fundamental improvements, that peak will not change.

I also somewhat disagree with Not_That's analysis of the usefulness of points. Points are a "good enough" factor to determine skill as long as:
- you are in a full division of 100 players (meaning nobody can be dropped into a division to throw off the rankings)
- you are spending your bonus pool
- you are facing more skilled opponents than your competition
Generally the top 8-10 players in a given division (fewer in Bronze and possibly Silver as well) will be constantly spending their bonus pool, or at least keeping it low enough that the only difference in points will be skill related. About half of those will also be playing people above the DMMR minimum. The top 2 or 3 may be regularly playing against opponents from a higher league, resulting in more points (the players who were not in the top 3 or so who have been playing against higher leagues will likely have been promoted long before they reach the top 3).

Still having problems for me. On the latest version, I get the blue "pre-trigger running" but it doesn't do anything after that. It says 0 games played. I get this within MMR log:

Hey, got a little question. So far the tool is working great for me, only failing when the bnet severs don't reply (over 10 trys needed) and when the player has an ǂ in his name. I encountered two players with that symbol in their name and for both of them it couldn't grab site 3.
Was this just randomly happening with both players or is this actually a problem with the symbol in the name?
Edit: I played around 40 games with the tool and it could grab almost all games, only failing when needing more then 10 trys.

Make sure sc2gears have "autosave replayes" enabled and check the path to replays in the settings and if he really save new replays

1) make sure you have "autosave replays" enabled
2) check the folder to the replays in the settings of sc2gear
3) test if he really save the replays

Just a quick question concerning the promotion lines. I've crossed the promotion line to masters briefly. Am I supposed to have been promoted (i.e. the plugin is not accurate enough and I haven't in fact crossed the line) or is this just a value that COULD get you promoted?

edit: Oh wow I just downloaded the new db and the promotion line from dia to master is now at an mmr of 2050 when it was 1650 yesterday. Is this a bug or am I, in fact, very far away from finally getting into masters again? :/
edit2: nvm the above. my mmr is now displayed as close to 2000 as well

2) check the folder to the replays in the settings of sc2gear

I played the game yesterday, now the log is cleared. Is there any way to get the log from yesterday? Else I will just play on and update this post when I find another opponent with that symbol.

I think his profile was something like:


At least something with some % and a number. Not sure if 82 was the correct number or the correct position of the % though.

Edit: found his bnet profile via SC2Gears (http://eu.battle.net/sc2/en/profile/746935/1/KSǂArgus/) but that wasn't the name shown in the log, he didn't had the symbol but the number with %% instead.

All should be working, I look at my replays after nearly every game in SC2Gears, so I know it saves it etc

All should be working, I look at my replays after nearly every game in SC2Gears, so I know it saves it etc

After the game it should say "Posttrigger running"
if not the posttrigger is not activated and thats the job of sc2gears ( only after a laddergame!)
Whatever mistake could happen, the posttrigger should atleast start.
Please check the "help" "system information" if a part of tool crashed. This is the only reason i can think of that my prog would not run the posttrigger after activated.


FOund a new way to analyse the data.
Will make a long post for the guys who love math, a version update for the rest ^^

New algorithm that will come with next version


Analyse Tiers



The following text describe how i analyse the opponent tier in my program MMR-Stats

Needed Knowledge:
To understand this text you need basic knowledge over the ladder system and mmr calculation

Known:
-Dmmr of all players +- known deviation
-League of all player
-Tiercount for all leagues
-Offset of all tiers +- UNKOWN deviation


Assumptions
-In avg. Player MMR = Opponent MMR
-In avg. Player win 16 mmr , loose 16 mmr
-Win/loose deviation is 0-40


Keep in mind, that PlayerA_mmr = playerA_DMMR + PlayerB_tieroffset
To calculate your mmr we need your dmmr (known ) and the opponent offset (unkown)
Because we kind of know the offsets we need to know the tier number:


To Find:
Opponent tier


Algorithm A
We use the Assumption that your MMR = Opponnent MMR

In real:
your_mmr +- mmr_deviation + opponent_tier = opponent_mmr +- mmr_deviation + your_tier +-skill diffrence


With the knowledge that mmr_deviation and skill difference are independent mistakes we can ignore them on higher gamecount.
To use the mmr diffrence of the player we calculate every possible tier combination.
If we calculate this over many games and take the tier that produce the lowest error margin we found the tier of the player.
However the tier of the opponent is only judge on one single game and have a big error margin.

Algorithm B
As your tier we use the one from algorithm A.
We also use the prediction that average mmr change is + - 16.
First we search for game-ROWS. That are games in a row without missing games between.
For each row :
We take game number 1 and calculate all possible tier-offests and make for each an prediction for the next game.
For all the next games we try to get as close to this prediction as our possible offsets allow us.
Than we take the offset of game nr.1 with the lowest error margin.


We could calculate not only the possibility's of game nr1. we could calculate the error of all combinations.
This is obvious exponential calculation time and therefore not possible in practise.

Algorithm C
As in B we search for ROWs first.
But this time we don't take the game nr1.
We search in the row for the game with the lowest margin (max possible mmr - min possible mmr)
by taking possible tier offsets dmmr and deviation of dmmr into account
Than we move on like B only that we now have to go to left and right and not from game 1 to end.


Algorithm D
C and B dont give us any information about single games.
Because A is not very good for them we use C to judge ROWS but also make an assumption for the next ROW we find.
If this row is big enough to be stable we ignore this assumption. If this row is small (1-2) games we take the prediction from last row into account.

Like you can see on this picture, D could have done an mistake at the marked spot. (he did not)


Keep in mind, that this data is from a platin/diamnd player. This means even our bestgame have min 3 different tiers.
If we however know one single tier in this area, this would help judge the hole area (row and satellites) new.

D+ use a database with known tiers.
If we enter only a single division of the of the games in the row in there D will use this information to correct the full area.

DMMR CAP

Because some people are DMMR caped we still have wrong data.
We can not know how much lower than the cap the opponent or we are.
in most cases this is not a problem because the caped player is very near to the cap. If he moves way under the cap he will get demoted soon and automatic gets an dmmr above the cap.
you can see on the pictures that this data is wrong. The player is caped in diamond = he is under 88 dia dmmr.

This point affects our hole area bad.
The only way to avoid this, is to filter low dmmr points out. Because most people are caped and we can only use data where both players are valid this will filter most of our data. However nothat found a new way to judge the cap better and improved the count of valid games by this.

Low dmmr filter together with D+ increase our accuracy near to perfection:

3.0 worked really fine

since 3.1.3 I don't get promotionlines and no win/loss dots :-(

the promotion line is only visible if analyser is on.
The winloose dot only if dots are shown.
Check if you have any error in sc2gears info "show systeminformation".

win/loss doesn't work for me either, but not since this version.

I have a question regarding my errors. I get many "Can't catch site 3/2" Errors. Are those Blizzard related problems? Because of their very buggy website? Or is it because I only have 2k DSL?

why did you guys not report this earlier?
cant catch sites is most of the time the webserver. If you see it together with messages that say he needed more than 1 try for other sites it is for sure. 2k should be enough to watch only the text of a website

Well to be honest it didn'T really bother me that it doesn't work as I will get the same MMR results with the points.
