Noooo I wrote another long post but it all got deleted when I accidentally closed my browser T_T basically started out saying that scrolling up I realized my posts are filled with typos, grammatical errors, me repeating myself, etc lol...but this stuff is all very interesting to me so it's fun just to post ^^

You can get stock ICS on any of these newer phones with minimal effort, the delay in getting Jelly Bean won't be more than maybe a month or two at most, most of the S3 tricks (I just took the liberty of comparing them in general even though I think you mean software tricks) it knows are somewhat inferior:

Thats not true, afaik all the roms on the optimus 2x and other tegra 2 phones have no hardware acceleration in video de- and encoding and some graphic glitches in ics apps like chrome - this is a huge deal if you want to capture or play video. The reason is simply because Nvidia wont release their drivers. The Snapdragons are better in that regard, but still far away from other competitors.

Ah yeah I've heard rumblings about this but disregarded them. Fair enough then D: fwiw, I think SGS3 specifically should get stock ICS running well and get jelly bean quickly barring some terrible incompatibility issues. Also very sad about NA potentially not getting the same level of support as the normal/international version but I had a verizon grandfathered unlimited data plan and decided to continue it, otherwise would have gotten an international version probably

@Fsk: ARM (the architecture on which essentially all mobile processors are built) have said themselves that quad-core is a marketing gimmick, I cannot stress this enough. There is almost no reason to need a quad core device because there's no way you're going to be using all four cores and most applications don't effectively utilize all of them anyway. If you somehow are using all four simultaneously at more or less full power, you're just going to kill your battery anyway.

@Moonsalt: it's not. But thank to that one compound which you can safely put all over a phone both internally and externally, we'll have phones that are essentially completely waterproof, really cool stuff.

@Mzh: the main differences are basically the themes and layouts. Touchwiz has proprietary applications and a custom skin/theme. Basically each of these custom versions (Motoblur for Motorola, Touchwiz, Sense for HTC) exist to help differentiate their devices and offer some exclusive apps/features. Generally speaking people detest these custom versions and prefer stock for reasons including: 1) they tend to have useless bloatware floating around, 2) sometimes are very ugly and unintuitive, 3) not that much customization, 4) can poorly impact your phone's performance, among others.

So did anyone get it yet?
I'd like to hear some first hand impressions.

How's the battery? Is the camera really that fast/good as seen in some reviews?

The Korean release is a bit slower, I pre-ordered the LTE version but it's gonna be another 1-2 weeks.

for those that have got the phone in the US, for whichever carrier, can you shed some light with some impressions on it?

i've been keeping an eye on this phone, and as my 2 year upgrade is coming up soon i've been heavily thinking about picking up the s3, kinda tired of my iphone4. not that i dislike my iphone, but not only does it feel like everyone and their mothers has one nowadays (literally every coworker has a goddamn iphone4/iphone4s), i've been meaning to make the switch into android for some time now.

only drawback i'm seeing for myself is that i'm on AT&T (iphone was only available on this garbage at the time), and i'm just curious about the speed differences/services differences between AT&T 4g/3g on the s3 versus the other carriers

tl;dr version: if anyone has the phone for at&t or any of the other carriers, thoughts so far?

at&t still hasn't announced the release date.

The only carrier that has S3 is Sprint.

i feel retarded, i just looked it up and its now set for july 6th lol

but yeah, if anyone has it for sprint so far, do tell

i'd concern myself between the difference of the quad-core int'l version vs the dual-core US version, but ultimately having to buy the phone full price for int'l version would be a bigger hit than i'm willing to take in terms of the difference provided between the 2 types.

I just got the blue one this morning. Didn't have much time to play with it yet, just downloaded/synched/logged in to all my apps and stuff. I will post later with my first impressions. So far so good, I'm impressed.

One question I could not find anywhere: On my previous Android devices, there was an option under the Development Settings to make the screen always stay awake when charging. Is this option gone from the S3? I could not find it anywhere in the Settings.

I got this smartphone two weeks ago and its the smoothest and sexiest smartphone I've seen and used.

The menus are so smooth and you won't see any lag when changing home screens. The Internet browsing smooth is excellent.

I highly recommend the SGS3 even if you have a 2011 smartphone.

i got the htc one x on att and was thinking about switching to the s3 because i was within 30 days. i work for tmobile and had a chance to play with it a bit before making my decision. cant say im too impressed. the build feels crappy, the back is ugly (u can change the back cover though and it wil look nice), the screen was really nice but not as bright as the HOX, and one thing i didnt like was the fact that everytime i used it and started downloading apps or running multiple things, the phone became really warm really fast. in my experience devices that tend to get rlly warm tend to have some issues. so i decided to stick to the hox, since theyre pretty much identical anyways. eitherway, its a good phone, better than anything else out there right now thats for sure (xcept the one x

battery life is like any other smartphones; doesnt last long.. quad core is pretty overkill, so i chose to root it and underclock the performance to save battery life..

overall, it's pretty good..

I didn't get the HTC One X because it has 3G/4G LTE and WiFi signal transmission issues which means Internet doesn't work half the time. Apparently HTC smartphones are known for their poor antenna quality.

There are a number of articles and threads on this:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1717495

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1730507

http://www.androidauthority.com/htc-one-x-weak-wi-fi-problem-acknowledged-95932/

It took months before HTC admitted that some batches of the HTC One X suffer from poor antenna quality.

Antenna quality is a deal breaker for me. I use the Internet regularly on my smartphones, use Skype pretty often and always have to have signal for important phone calls. That's why I picked the Samsung Galaxy S III.

I also prefer the Super AMOLED HD screen compared to the HTC One X's LCD screen. I don't really care about pixel density since both are over 300ppi anyway and I just can't see a difference really. The colors are much more vibrant on the Samsung Galaxy S III thanks to the higher contrast of the Super AMOLED HD screen.

The build quality is really subjective. While I thought the HTC One X's build quality was really nice, I didn't feel particularly that it was any better than the SGS III. I prefer to have a neutral, glossy back cover at the end of the day, because matte finishes like on the HTC One X get old and boring after a while.

Having a One X and a SGS3 at the moment... I prefer the One X >.> The S3 sure is nice but I'm not a fan of their customization and I prefer the design and feel of the One X.

The S3 is awesome but it just looks and feels too cheap. I don't understand why most Android phones have to be so ugly. And especially that logo on the FRONT. It's Galaxy Nexus all the way for me, it may have slightly inferior specs but it's the only Android phone that actually looks good (with a back cover on ) while being very capable at the same time.

The One X with antenna quality problem is the one with Tegra 3. You won't get that problem with any version that uses Qualcomm S4 SoCs, which I imagine will used by every phone offered by AT&T and Verizon.

The One X is killed by HTC Sense and the multitasking "bug". You can root it but everything should work fine out of the box, out of principle.

Seeing how the majority of the HTC One Xs sold worldwide are the Tegra 3 versions, I think this is a huge problem.

In this situation, it wouldn't trouble him. He's on AT&T.

Edit:
Its like going nuts because the Verizon Galaxy Nexus has trash reception. If you get the GSM version, then you don't suffer from any of the reception problems.

But yes, I agree ditch the One X for the SG3. Sense gimps Android 4.0 bad so...

I wasn't referring to him, it was just a general statement to all consumers.

Don't want to bump this but this may be relevant news to some of you guys.

Recently the Verizon variant of this device was declared to have a locked (signed) bootloader. There was also the big deal over Samsung releasing a so-called "developer edition" (not locked, 32 GB, $600) which you would have to buy from Samsung directly.

There have, however, been rumors that there is a software fix in the works which I hope very much is the case. Because most of my tech news I get from following sites on twitter+twitter is blocked in China+I'm lazy, I didn't follow a lot of tech news initially and missed a lot of the shitstorm that apparently went down around this. For now I'm just popping onto sites occasionally to check, and did come across this bit of news a few days ago and thought it would be interesting.

Hope the bootloader is unlocked because Jelly Bean seems fantastic and I think CM10 is going to be very nice.

EDIT:
Just kidding, it's not gonna happen. Source.

Decrypting the bootloader is essentially impossible because it's 128-bit encryption or higher, I think. Also, there are unique keys for every phone to boot, I think (pun actually unintended).

However, the devs are making significant progress, hoping they're able to do something about it!

Anyone have an idea of what is a good case? I don't wanna add bulk and I want something that provides a better grip.
