This thread is for discussing recent bans. Don't discuss other topics here.

Take it to website feedback if you disagree with a ban or want to raise an issue.

Keep it civil.

Actually, I didn't even see the Moonbear comment until AFTER I banned him. Just made me even more certain I'd made the right call.

to be fair, until I looked more closely I also thought it was for questioning the moonbear ban (I think it was perfectly good).

Yeah, intelligent posts are completely wasted if they sound like they're being written by a jerkwad who's already decided he's right. Then you're not really sparking any sort of discussion or sharing ideas in a constructive manner, you're just flamebaiting. The fact that sam didn't bother to tone down his posts after so many warnings speaks rather ill of him (i.e. he just wanted to hear himself talk and chastise people rather than actually enlighten people or whatever he was on about half the time).

You do realize his "usual posts" were the problem, right?

I didn't see the problem. Enlighten me, if you wish

Lol, IgnE. This is entertaining.

Did nunez really "request" the ban or is that reason just tongue-in-cheek?

He wrote in the "had been banned for this post" redtext himself. So another mod treated it like a request and actually DID temp ban him.

Failed attempt to martyr, I guess.

Saw TheKefka's post in that wedding thread, figured it was just satire or w/e, not that it wasn't a bit odd but moved on. Who would've known that was the final straw lol. Can't say much for sam since I haven't had to interact with him but he has quite the reputation around ABL in terms of bans so I guess that's not surprising. Either way, best of luck to them!

Holy crap guys. I really liked having samizdat around but he's basically been asking to get banned since he came back off his 90 day. I think he's a really cool guy who raises interesting points, but he tends to do so in a way that is pretty rage-inducing, especially if you aren't already a friend of his. While I think he will be missed, I don't really think the ban was out of line, or a surprise.

Yes. I am suggesting some introspection for the posters here. Step back and consider what you accuse every religion on the planet of doing. Now, look at what you're typing now, in this thread. Maybe your superiority over the blind faith masses isn't quite as stark as it would seem.

edit: you can't use this "in the past, people would have been surprised at how things have changed, so now things are also going to keep changing."

what's going to REALLY surprise US is when things STOP changing. that would be the analogy here. "in the past, people used to think that they lived in a state of perpetual change. then it turned out that some things never change. surprise!"

edit: also, while I'm thinking about it, I want to address something from a couple of weeks ago. after some idiot banned me, most of the responses to me were based on mocking me for beliefs I do not hold (the main way that people respond to me here). I just want to put forth that I believe 100 percent in private property and that I think one of the main problems with our society today is that there is very little private property. a joint stock corporation is not private property, it is a form of absentee landlordism, which is the antithesis of private property. late capitalism is NOT a system based on private property, there is basically no private property in the capitalist system today. equities are not private property. your mortgaged house is not private property. securities are not private property. anyone who doesn't understand this is an idiot and needs to go read their adam smith

I don't think our agricultural production is fucked. I think it's amazing! We have more choice that at any time in history, and at lower prices than ever. There are just a lot of silly privileged people who have problems with it for various touchy-feely reasons which I personally don't care about.

Also, your talk about how there is very little private property these days is transparent nonsense.

it's not touchy feely reasons, it's deeply unsustainable and is operating on borrowed time.

i am not a touchy feely person, remember, I am a stalinist

as far as your last line, let me repeat: you are an idiot and need to go read your adam smith

These are merely the action'd posts that I could find in mod reports. He had a lot of other posts that were action'd before even being reported. It was his way to mingle insults and a foul superiority complex in all his posts. Intelligence does not excuse belligerence.

"in the past, people used to think that they lived in a state of perpetual change. then it turned out that some things never change. surprise!"

Financial crisis is prevalent in every social form so far tried and likely in every probable social theory so far proposed.

how about before they invented financial instruments? lots of financial crises in those societies I bet

Trade has always happened... and even if there were no trade in those societies, you think we can go back to that? That's a laughable suggestion.

gmos are only one facet of a deeply problematic regime of industrial agriculture, the problem here is just that the public discourse about it is myopic

is our agricultural production deeply fucked? yes. is it deeply fucked entirely and unequivocally because of gmo? no

edit: also, while I'm thinking about it, I want to address something from a couple of weeks ago. after some idiot banned me, most of the responses to me were based on mocking me for beliefs I do not hold (the main way that people respond to me here).
