LOL, fashion is a build? Where are the supply depots?

You have to have your own mind in this as well. Though a lot of these suggestions aren't half-bad, but they aren't a hard truth either. Scanning through this thread I can already say I would never wear 50% of this stuff—a lot of it is really really average. If you want some truly insane style ideas get on Lookbook.nu (or follow some good Tumblr's). Then, figure out what YOU like.

Examples I'm into:
http://lookbook.nu/qmike
http://lookbook.nu/user/69091-Edward-H
http://lookbook.nu/mikakailes

It's just that up until recently I haven't really given a rats ass about what I wear. Usually I buy extremely crazy shit or just for comfort. I never ever gave shoes any thought. I think the only remotely fashionable things I bought were a cardigan and collar shirt from H&M but again those were for going on dates and fooling women.

A few problems for me is I live in Shanghai where it is crrrrrazy hot and humid for almost half the year where long pants are just impossible. Even wearing shorts and a tshirt going outside you'll start sweating within 15 min. What should I do? Khaki shorts? Short sleeve shirts?
I have another problem which is I do weightlifting and my quads & thighs have gotten thick. Wearing any slim fit jeans is a big issue. I have a pair of straight cut Levis and they're ok-ish. Are there any "cuts" I should be looking for that is like a funnel shape for the legs?

Also, I have flat foot, which means if I wear any "hard sole" shoes I get pain in my feet if I walk around in them too long. I have this problem whenever I wear my formal dress shoes. Are Allen Edmond etc those high end shoes do they have good "support" or are they also rather hard and flat? It seems that to look good (flat as fuck and pointy shoes) you have to give up comfort.
Yea that looks just like Kang Min... amazing game sense... and uses mind games well, but has the micro of a washed up progamer.

Totally dig'n this thread.

I've made a resolution to only wear suits to work this year, but I've only got one decent suit.

A few questions:

How many suits should a man own, and how often can I work one into the rotation?

What should I expect to spend on a good looking suit? Do I have to drop $500+?

How often should I wash a suit, and are there any special rules for suit care?

Thanks dudes!

I don't think I'm particularly fashionable, but for what it's worth I never liked white sneakers with jeans tbh. Too Jerry Seinfeld for me.

Well, they're not all white converse, just the flat bottom and the laces (I do have black laces also thoug)

1. Depends a bit on expectations, which I believe are not that high at your workplace. I would go by the 1 for every workday rule of thumb though.

2. Yes. More, rather. Really below $500 suits are trash and a waste of money.

3. Nothing not covered by common sense really. Leave washing to professionals.

(1) you can wear the same suit every day, if it's navy or (less versatile, but still viable) grey. ofc, there's no limits to how many suits you can own, but I think a good collection for a young guy is one dark navy, one grey (both mid-weight wool for year-round wear), one lighter navy/windowpane/other more casual fabric in a summer fabric (for the hottest days), and one charcoal in a heavier fabric (for the coldest days). navy and grey suits are most important, though, because you can wear them with anything and on almost any occasion.

(2) probably, yeah. consensus lately is that http://www.suitsupply.com/ in New York is the best place to buy a budget suit, and its cheapest models are $470 base price. if you are not going as cheap as possible for a "just for now" suit, then I think you should be looking at spending $2000-$5000 on a made-to-measure or bespoke suit. the more money you spend (1) the nicer your fabric and construction, which means fewer washes and a longer lifetime; (2) the better the fit (though it is possible, with much care, to get a good fit on a cheap suit); and (3) the nicer the details (buttons, pockets, shoulder roll, etc.).

my short-term strategy is to buy 1 or 2 (navy/grey) cheap suits to tide me over until I have saved the $ for my first serious suit, which will no doubt be navy. I agree with zatic inasmuch as, in the grand scheme, suits under $500 are trash, but I think it's not an option for me to snub my nose at them because I think it is possible to look passable for around $500 and I really need something to tide me over until I can afford a real suit.

m2m and bespoke suiting is a complicated world and I've only just got my foot in the door. you can see things I've read (or bookmarked for later reading) here: http://pinboard.in/u:josephw.dunn/t:suiting/

(3) google around for this, but the answer is probably "much less often than you think you should". a good suit almost never needs dry cleaning, and wrinkles will steam right out of it. also google "suit care" and see what you turn up (...that's what I'd do). you won't find many special rules. I think: (1) if you are traveling with a suit, wear your suit; (2) don't hang a suit on a narrow-shouldered hanger; and (3) don't wear the suit's pants without the jacket, or vice versa (okay, it may be alright to occasionally wear pants without the jacket, but as a matter of style never wear a suit jacket without its pants).

Im interested in this too, I've bought one jeans during vacation in vietnam which is not super skinny jeans style but I'd say it fits my legs and now it feels really awkward to wear jeans that arent close to my thighs and calves.
Which subbrands or cuts from perferably Boss and Levi's Jeans am I looking for as someone with thick thighs but still wants to wear "skinny" jeans or at least fitted

I'm a fairly skinny, tanner asian male. I'm 5'9" and 135 lbs. (176 cm, 61.2 KG).
I'm obviously not muscular. I've been reading through the most recent posts on this thread and they seems to focus on suits; I'm definitely in the market since literally all of mine are too big since Iost a bunch of weight, but more pressingly, i'm trying to figure out a sense of style that's in between "I don't give a fuck about what I look like" and "Lol, sup I'm in a suit." Right now, I dress like the typical nerd: Not terribly, but extremely unobtrusively. Few people would notice me specifically for being terribly dressed but few people would notice I look good either. I'm trying to figure out where I should start when constructing a new look. I ain't made of cash, so I'm not looking to drop huge sums of money. But I should be getting a paid internship this summer and I'll likely be spending a good portion of it on clothes (and yu-gi-oh cards).

I'd say that if you can grow a full beard - it's up to you whether or not to grow it. If you can't grow a full beard, shave it - or at least trim it close. Hair is an ENTIRELY different story, as it all depends on the shape of your face, if your hair is curly, straight, wavy, the color, etc. It's impossible to tell unless pictures are given, which you implied with your question

For ME personally, I cannot grow a full beard and it is ridiculously patchy when I try, as you can see here (it doesn't help that I have really light hair as well..):

Remember that even if you want the same look, you also need similar hair! I need a lot stronger of hair product to get the same result as a lot of my friends. Also remember that a lot of styles might not make you look as good as it makes him; you could look better in something totally different. I know this is basic, and you probably already know this, but I've known a lot of people who have forgotten both of the above.

What do you guys think of these shoes? I'm going to be wearing them with a black suit.

EDIT: When I was browsing the site, I just saw these shoes:
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_06762227000P?mv=rr
I have tried on the first link shoes, but not these ones. They look to be more shiny than the original link I posted, and almost the same style. Hopefully the store I go to tomorrow has these in stock so I can try them to see if I like them better. What do you guys think of these shoes?

I think those are going to last you 3-6 months before they fall apart. If you are on a strict budget, go ahead. But a pair of Allen Edmonds (I suggest Park Avenue or Strand) will last you 5-10+ years and cost around 300-350 bucks.

Way out of my budget. I won't be wearing these shoes every day, only on special occasions. They should last me long enough. Also, what makes you say that they will only last 3-6 months? I have some cheap sneakers that I got for way cheaper that have lasted me more than a year with me wearing them almost every day.

3-6 months is a little bit of a hyperbole, but as you said since you'd only really wear them on special occasions it's not that big of a deal. However, there's a great big deal that goes into the construction of a shoe - and investing in a pair of $3-400 shoes (like, as he suggested, some Allen Edmonds) is a.) more practical and b.) a better investment. The biggest thing that you'll find between a shoe that you can pick up at Macy's (say an Alfani) and an Allen Edmond is the sole. With higher end shoes, you'll find that the soles of the shoes are actually sewn on, whereas lower end will be fused by an adhesive like glue. This is a pretty big deal, in that you can actually replace the soles which is incredibly cheaper than buying another pair of shoes. Also, with the materials and the way the shoe is constructed, with proper care you can have shoes last a good 10+ years. Here's a great video (and a regular post here) from the putthison blog that goes really in depth into shoemaking and can/will answer your questions better than me.

Since we are talking about shoes, I posted on facebook recently about how much I want these Cole Haan's plain oxford's. Such a simple shoe, but so hnggggg:

His cuffing could be better, but that's not the focus.

I really love these shoes! I think they are this model: http://www.endless.com/Cole-Haan-Mens-Colton-Oxford/dp/B00394DYO8/

I think a good starting place would be to pick up some collared shirts. Get a few that you like and then start rotating them into your wardrobe. Pick up some slacks or chinos to go with them.

(I'm assuming you mean everyday wear clothing, right?)

Don't buy this. The brand is well known for being really poor quality and it will look nothing like that picture.

try looking at http://www.yesstyle.com for the very asian style that you posted. Most of the brands have sleeve, bust, length measurements, but not all.

I have never bought from them, but they are pretty legitimate from what I know. (They sponsor Wong Fu Productions)

Hope this helps!

I have another problem which is I do weightlifting and my quads & thighs have gotten thick. Wearing any slim fit jeans is a big issue. I have a pair of straight cut Levis and they're ok-ish. Are there any "cuts" I should be looking for that is like a funnel shape for the legs?

Im interested in this too, I've bought one jeans during vacation in vietnam which is not super skinny jeans style but I'd say it fits my legs and now it feels really awkward to wear jeans that arent close to my thighs and calves.
Which subbrands or cuts from perferably Boss and Levi's Jeans am I looking for as someone with thick thighs but still wants to wear "skinny" jeans or at least fitted

you need to bro up to http://thighsbiggerthanyourhead.blogspot.com/ aka http://suitsandboots.tumblr.com/

he recommends STF 501s; read the guide here: http://thighsbiggerthanyourhead.blogspot.com/2010/12/how-to-shrink-to-fit-stf-your-levis.html

my big-thighed buddy followed his advice and was very pleased. he's like, 5'9'' 200something super athletic build (wrestler) and looks great in the STF 501s.

my other advice is to simply buy pants that fit you in the leg/ass and take them to a tailor to have them tapered slightly (this is cheap and easy). keep in mind, though, that you will have to settle for a slightly wider leg opening to look good ("funnel shape" sounds much too extreme).
