This thread is for discussing recent bans. Don't discuss other topics here. Take it to website feedback if you disagree with a ban or want to raise an issue. Keep it civil.NOTE: For those of you who want to find the actual ABL thread where the bans are posted. Please look in here: https://tl.net/forum/closed-threads/ |

edit: feel free to PM if you don't want to start the discussion here. I'm just making an effort to understand the Mod side of TL so I can be more helpful as a member here. idrA is sort of a special case. His trolly posting is part of what makes idrA who he is, and it's in some strange way sort of become part of the TL community. The idea that at any time idrA will go into a random thread and QQ and troll is amusing and part of what makes this community awesome. But don't think for a minute that the mods won't draw the line for him. Go back in the ban list to May and you will see one such incident. idrA made some stupid posts in the Cruncher fan club thread and Chill 2-dayed him. idrA then went onto twitter and told his fans to start harassing Chill. Resulted in a lot of throw away accounts getting permed and the staff ended up banning idrA for 90 days. Of course idrA never said he was sorry or anything publicly, but after the smoke cleared I think idrA got the message about just how far he was allowed to go on TL. I understand Idra's history and his special case. But when he uses certain words on a website I consider pg13 outside of [NSFW] threads is where I thought that line would be drawn. I know other people like Incontrol has dropped f-bombs on tl lots of times, but even the context of those statements are far different then Idra's last one. The thread was closed so it's not like it matters anymore, but I honestly think comments like that hurt TL more then gain.

IdrA already has some odd 21 bans, including two perms (albeit one of them by request). IdrA is given a lot of leniency, for obvious reasons.
I don't think that anything would be achieved by temp'ing him for that comment. In fact, it would cause an unnecessary stir, and a bunch of IdrA fans would sweep over TL like a tsunami of rage. You remember what happened last time IdrA got banned. I think it's a headache that the mods don't need or want.

Yeah, this is the point I wanted to hear. Basically, it causes chaos for TL having to deal with Idra publicly like banning him. I just hope that he has enough respect for the mods that if they PM him and are like, "Idra man, you stepped out of line..." that he'd at least apologize to them (not publicly). It's hard dealing with celebrities of your favorite sport because you have to keep the community happy with how you deal with things. Just kinda grinds my gears if there was no level of respect for them. Thank god he posts very little and keeps most of his personality to his streams where it makes it exciting to watch Idra.

This is the reason for IdrA's high level immunity:- + Show Spoiler +6. THOU SHALL RESPECT FORUM VETERANS
All other things being equal, we will give preferential treatment to site members who have been with us longer (as reflected in their post count + length of time with us as a registered member). It's a simple recognition of the quality of these people. Longevity and contribution are prized commodities around here. In a similar vein, "known" pro/semi-pro players will also be treated with deference (yes, quite a few hang out here). Don't complain - these guys have earned it.
Remember: we ban little kids all the time because they sign on thinking they can say and do whatever they want to whomever they want right from the get-go - just like they're used to doing at other sites. That attitude won't work here. That's a promise. As far as new users are concerned (i.e. anyone with less than 1000 or so quality posts to their name), this site is Holy Ground. The veterans are the users who've consistently shown respect to the site and to others and that's why they're still here. Show them some respect.
In practice, this policy means a user who has thousands of posts may be able to get away with a few minor transgressions in etiquette with just a warning. If you're at 50 posts and you try the same kind of stunt, then we may just ban you. Harsh? Yes. Unfair? Most definitely. But that's the way life is. Learn to live with it.
This also means you should think twice before calling that guy with 5000+ posts a jackass. If the guy's been with us that long, chances are YOU'RE the one being an idiot. Some battles are just not worth fighting - just move on.

Have you found any entirely savoury postss? Both of those words could hypothetically be used in a non-pejorative context, even in the same post! I for example am talking about a farmer who owns both a donkey and a cat... his pussy keeps the farm clear of rats and other vermin, and his ass hauls a plough to help him till his fields.

It's possible your bans aren't noteworthy? We usually just talk about the most egregious haters, particularly bad threads, PBUs, and of course hilarious mod notes on bans (such as "A Ban for All Seasons"). If you get banned for something uninteresting, it's unlikely you'll get discussed.
EDIT: Alright, I'll grand your wish.
Ok so this is your most recent ban right:

It's pretty normal-- pretty run of the mill. You bm about a pro, and then say protoss can just 1-a, and get a week of temp ban. It's not like the more interesting guys like TI**, the treasure trove of ancient CharlieMurphy bans, or the final perms of particularly virulent general discussion trolls. If you want to be discussed you have to either be a thread (rather than a poster) that generates many bans, or be amusing.
Or ask why you're not discussed, I guess :D
