This is well said. I'm no liberal rights activist (probably quite far from it) but LGBT identified young people, especially high school aged people of which there are many here on TL, have to put up with so much shit in real life from name calling to physical harassment. And you're right, online gaming interactions can be just as bad if not worse. There's one refuge on the internet where they can be both be nerdy gamers and openly gay and this guy has to come in and fuck with them. I find this kind of crap completely disgusting, and based on the context of the infraction--IMO this is perm territory.

While I find that the mods have been pretty good about it, I sort of feel that sometimes the mods aren't as hard on gay-bashing as they are on other forms of identity based harassment such as racism. I admittedly don't have any empirical evidence for this, but this is just how I perceive it.

In some ways though, I feel TL has really made a contribution to the gaming community as a whole. How many other communities on the internet can actually have a gay-gamers thread without it instantly being flamed all to hell? For that I give +100 to the TL community, but I think there still are some attitudes that need to be changed regarding this.
