This thread is for discussing recent bans. Don't discuss other topics here. Take it to website feedback if you disagree with a ban or want to raise an issue. Keep it civil.NOTE: For those of you who want to find the actual ABL thread where the bans are posted. Please look in here: https://tl.net/forum/closed-threads/ |

Reason: Unacceptable post in the Greece topic. I agree with your general sentiment and totally understand as an EU citizen but that is not to way to express yourself. For example you should stick to speaking for yourself and you can leave the final line of your post at the door. I'm laying down money that the Greece thread is the next big ban trap of the General Forum. Already had one anti-greece rant and one accusation of illuminati conspiracy and it's only been a few hours. Add in that half of the posters clearly don't understand the finer points of macro-economics and monetary exchange and the topic is nationalist fueled--yup I don't see how this could possibly end badly..... I just kind of feel like the general forum makes people post stupid things... Well if you manage to look past the racism, stupidity, sexism, flaming, bashing, conspiracy theories, trolling, flame bating, talking about things you have no idea about and stupidity there are some quality posts :-P
Awww but the conspiracy theories are the best part!
Anyway I like that US Healthcare thread too, I'll actually give odds to that one over the Greece thread for the most bans.
I wonder how everyone posting those big huge long replies know that everyone else posting in the thread either isn't going to read it at all, read one sentence of it and quote that one sentence in a reply, or read through it and simply not care?
-edit: I think both threads are at one ban each right now. Greece thread has about a 6 hour lead on the US heathcare thread, but I think we've got a ways to go yet. Place yer bets!

I read a lot of the general forum even if I rarely post there (compared to other forums).
It's grim stuff.

Same as above poster. Posting there is problematic :/

I try to live like P-dawg and the indescribable one do.
Sometimes, though... I just see a post and I disagree so much. I feel a respose post form in my head. Usually at this point I shake my head and press on. Sometimes, though, I can't. I press the quote button. There it is-- the reply field all opened up with his ridiculous statement, begging for me to respond.
About half the time, I realize what I'm doing and turn away. Onwards towards fairer shores, I decide.
The other half of the time, though. I am not so noble. I write a snark-filled, snarling post. I insult his intelligence. I call him out on logical fallacies. I tear him down and build up a shining argument of righteous anger. "HOW DARE you have somewhat different political opinions than I do!?" I screech. "I will prove that your opinion is literally wrong!"
I press preview to review my post. The ultimate shame would be to have some typos going on in this angry diatribe.
I read what I wrote. And here, before I post, I always stop. Even having come this far, I realize that I can't go on. Something in me holds me back, stopping me from taking that final plunge, that less gasping step into an abyss from which there is no return.
I will not post in this controversial thread. I will move on, and try to be a better man.

Against all odds, the Healthcare thread turned out to be one of the better General threads.

It's not over yet......
Plus, if you count Gieva, that's two bans in just over 12 hours. Not great, but I think we can do better. There were also some smart cookies that edited out their posts, depriving us of some juicy bans....

This is so true, I do this often because sometimes I need to mentally reply and form my opinion in text. Rarely do I then post and only after major editing of anything rude or insulting. I like how you described it, its pretty much the roller-coaster of thought and emotion I go through at times.
General threads are the only ones I skim 90% of the replies, often I just scan and note certain posters names and read them. Being here for awhile I have a decent spider sense about whose paragraphs are worth my time to read and whose aren't.

I tend to stay out of those threads because I really don't know a whole lot about international economics compared to some people here :S

It's being countered by the Palestine-UNESCO thread... Way too political to get anything meaningful...

I even post regularly in the general forum and never been banned. I've gotten a couple warnings, but ironically those came from a thread in the strat forum that got purged before that became standard, and the other was from poorly expressing my disappointment in the NASL scheduling in the LR thread. Arguing in the general forum really isn't that hard. You just attack the post, and not the person, and you're fine 99.9% of the time.

Not everyone is mindful when they post. They post more to ensure their point is made or they get over-excited, overly frustrated and lash out.
They don't do things to break the rules but because they're impulsive, which is normal.

People don't learn because they believe, wrongly, that they have some sort of ridiculous right to "free speech" on Team Liquid(just saying, the words "First Amendment" are often used in said cases, no offense intended), and it has to be explained to them, painstakingly, that that is incorrect and that they should contribute or shut up. Team Liquid isn't a city street, and quality has to be maintained.
Another cause is that people who can't commit themselves to Team Liquid just end up trolling, being banned, reregistering, and repeating this cycle because they find it amusing.

The account was made in 2010, though. Does TI have that much patience, haha?

Upon looking at his posting history, he just looks like a fan. I really really doubt he has anything at all to do with TI - his 48 posts are spread out over at least a year.

I've been out of power for a few days or so and have only just seen page 1000. I think my parents might have heard me laughing.
