when sc1 and sc:bw first came out, they allowed you to use more characters, including "." and "!" for your account name. for some reason, they decided to ban those characters later on, but old accounts were grandfathered in (i.e., they were allowed to use the same name despite the ban). so, people who had the old accounts with illegal characters became popular and people wanted to purchase their accounts to get the illegal characters. its all kind of stupid and childish. btw, this has nothing to do with sc2, which bans everything, including my favorite sc:bw channel ("bong").
