It has its redeeming qualities, but TL's forum format is much better for sustained discussions, and the aggressive moderation on TL keeps out trolls and flamers. Sometimes democratic up/down-voting is the best, but when their enemies were at the gates, the Romans would suspend democracy and appoint one man to protect the city. It wasn't considered an honor, it was considered a public service.

In terms of /r/Starcraft:
- They do a lot of volunteer and charity work. They raise tons of money and provide tons of exposure for "the little guy"
- They have a lot of funny pictures
- There is a high turnaround so you get a lot of content over the day without old stuff sticking around for too long
- It's completely uncensored, which I don't care about but apparently a lot of people do
- It's easy to see when a famous person posts something

It's not completely uncensored though, if people don't like what you have to say they just downvote it into oblivion. In some ways, that's more censorship than TL. It causes people to try to write things that will be popular and get upvoted rather than actually be able to engage and have a discussion.
The only reason why the "turnaround" appears to be higher is because the main page can only show 25 threads at a time. And if people don't like the thread or the subject, they again just downvote it into oblivion. On top of that, half the "content" is just like a single picture or something stupid.
The only thing I actually like on reddit better than TL is site's design/graphics + Show Spoiler +
