As I often get sidetracked by random Internet things, I made a program called Liquid Notify that warns me before events start:
It seems to work fine for me, so I'm posting it here in the hopes that it is useful to someone else as well. It requires the .NET Framework 2.0, available on Windows Update or here
All times displayed in the program are converted to your local time. If you think you've found a bug or something, please post full details in this thread and I'll see what I can do. Keep in mind this hasn't had much testing so consider this a beta-quality release .
Thanks to pop for making the calendar feed available in XML format and to fanta for helping to test early versions.

Very nice indeed, but sadly i'll probably be asleep when most of the important events start so i'll miss them anyway.

Oh, snap. How is Frances?
Edit - Thanks for this tool btw! Very cool stuff.

If you minimize it, it shows a Starcraft wraith on the taskbar :o! neat-o

Can you release the sourcecode?
|
The source is almost too embarrassing to release . I might tidy it up sometime and release after most of the bugs have been found and fixed. If you're interested in how any of it works, Reflector from http://www.aisto.com/roeder/dotnet/ is a great tool for poking around .NET applications.

Well, it seems that everybody knows you...
But you really should release the source code; it's just too easy to hook input in these VB/.NET apps.
No offense; I'm sure you understand.

No offense; I'm sure you understand. It's also too easy to disassemble .NET into readable code . Grab Reflector from http://www.aisto.com/roeder/dotnet/ if you want to take a look and ensure there's nothing nasty in there.
Has anyone tried it yet? I see lots of "looks great" but no feedback... .

Great work. This will come in handy when I'm playing loads of Diablo 2 and forget the time!

Ironic that if I use this to keep up with my schedule, I'd have to have my comp on all the time...gonna be hard to stay on task.
Nice program though.

this is gonna be my savior
I ALWAYS miss matches. I'll probably watch about 300% more SC cause of this thing. all current things I see are solely cause of the calendar already anyways.
- can't you just have the option "notify me of any event"? - also it would be nice if we could select multiple events by dragging the mouse then having to click notify me just once - also a cancel button in settings would be ok

I'm not sure what you mean here, do you mean on the calendar or the event drop down list?

I just uploaded a new version, http://r-1.ch/LiquidNotify.zip with a few fixes:
- Hopefully fixed negative time showing in tray tool tip after an event passed. - Events removed from the TL calendar are removed from the program too (there were some with incorrect times that got removed) - Primitive UBB code parser for bold, italic and basic colors in event description. - Better accessibility keys and tab order. - URLs in the description box are now clickable.

System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Text length must be less than 64 characters. Parameter name: Text Actual value was 3am until OGN Starchallenge (Challenge League) 2007 Season 1 Group C. at System.Windows.Forms.NotifyIcon.set_Text(String value) at LiquidNotify.Form1.backgroundWorker2_DoWork(Object sender, DoWorkEventArgs ev)
That's a long string.

Yeah like let's say you want to be notified by event 13 14 18 21 and 25, how would that work right now (maybe it already works and I didn't see it)? The way I thought it works is that you haveto manually select them and notify each individual one. It would be kinda nice if you could select them all by pressing shift and clicking each, then clicking notifying once.
|
|
also anyway to make it auto-launch at computer startup? :D
|
put a shortcut to it in startup? :D

The idea was that the events you want to be notified about are put in the auto notify in the settings, there shouldn't be much need to manually tick / untick the event notify box. I'll see if it's possible to do multiple selections with the calendar control and allow this, but it might be too much work.

Create shortcut of the exe, open Start -> All Programs -> Startup, put shortcut in there.

|
On June 13 2007 11:58 Chosi wrote: Where are the times taken from? If they are incorrect, it's due to the data here being incorrect too. The calendar is updated every 6 hours or on program start, so any changes should get picked up.

Nope. Thanks fusionsdf. Dling it.
|
i'd like a way for it to be completely invisible, even from my task bar. basically because once i've put my settings in, i'll rarely want to touch it again and if i did, i'd be happy to just open the execute to change the settings. of course a launch on startup feature would be neat too, as already mentioned.
there is one gui problem i noticed. im running xp prof sp1. the calendar doesnt fit properly in the date box. the right side of the calendar is cut off a bit.
it looks the goods though as long as it does what it says i'll be very pleased!

Bump for updated version! I tried to get the team names / player names / etc to link to the TLPD but the RTF textbox provided by .NET simply wasn't having any of it - it only accepts links beginning http://, so I unfortunately had to just use the race info to make colors. At least the info is readable once more . Also fixed is the events carrying forward to every future year when you browse through the calendar.

I have a request for this, could you change it so that it either runs as a background process/service, or at least so that I can't alt-tab to it when it is in the system tray. Otherwise it doesn't really make a difference whether it goes to the system tray or the task bar. I'd prefer if it was a background process though, but I'm not sure if that would take extra effort.
The program is fantastic though! Thanks a bunch.
|
thankyou !! i will try it out later today

I managed to fix it so that it doesn't show on the Alt+Tab list at least. Here's an updated version, it also includes shortcuts to the TLPD when you right click on the event description box, as well as a few other misc improvements.

A new version has been released to handle events formatted with TSLD tags, and hopefully a bug fix for when the program appears on the taskbar but not on the screen. There is also a "purge cache" button on the settings screen to reset the event list if something seems to be broken with it.

good job
you could add a button to like "view now" like chaos plugin has for tv ants, just using the gom/daum/etc links
|
Finally figured out what was messing up the event view, if two events had the same title they would randomly overwrite each other. I updated the calendar XML to include the event ID so I had a better key for each event .
Fixed version: http://r-1.ch/LiquidNotify.zip
|
I'm not seeing any events anymore with the new version.
|
Try using the "purge cache" button in the settings.
|
Yet another version: http://r-1.ch/LiquidNotify.zip
Fixes calendar events not updating properly if the calendar on TL was updated. Also reduced refresh delay to 2 hours.
|
Missed this first time round, thanks alot R1CH !! Your awesome
|
Is there anything R1CH can't do???
|
Yeah, this prettymuch just made my day. Thanks.
|
Go R1CH i seem to be using his stuff more and more, including d2 loader extras.
|
And another update! http://r-1.ch/LiquidNotify.zip
Now sorts the events by time in the list box, and fixes a bug where the event description would sometimes come up empty.
|
Thank you R1CH =D. Very useful.
|
Ahh...just noticed the new posts, glad to see LiquidNotify seeing some recent updates. Could it be R1CH noticed this over his shoulder http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?topic_id=73225 ? Or could this just be an utterly shameless act of self promotion? I'm leaning towards the latter (shame on me!) Once again, thanks for the inspiration R1CH, you rock.

This application has been released as open source (GPLv3) if anyone is interested in improving it. I've already had one person express interest in making updates, so it may be better to coordinate a new version rather than forking it into multiple projects.
