DC lan's are epic and awesome, Ipp will be casting the entire event from location with tv monitors setup for observing. Anyone of any skill level can participate in the tournament, we encourage everyone to play or at least come out and spectate and hang out with other TL members and sc2 players! Maybe I just came at a very bad time, but this is misleading. I signed up to play, obviously not expecting to win but just for fun and to give me something to do besides JUST spectate. I mainly came to meet some other Starcraft players that are skilled, and converse a bit while watching games. However this environment is very poor for anything but playing against the assigned players. The room is small, crammed, and completely dark. There little communication going on between players, and there is not a real location for players to just converse and meet one another. Perhaps I just expected too much out of this, I don't know. If I had to give any advice from my experience, I would say do not come unless your local, or high masters or grandmasters league. This is not at all supportive of lower league players. I left for 15mins to grab some food, return to find I'm locked out of the computer I was at, the commentator had left, and the place was completely dead. Also, I was still logged into my account while being locked out of the computer. I had to do some very fast alt+tab spamming to close out of Starcraft. To the guys that were responsible for arranging and carrying out this event, I am sorry for this negative reply, but it seems to be way too inviting for such little return. I do however think it has potential to be way better, so I wish you luck. ![]()

It's hard to find a LAN center that isn't a smoker infested shithole, but Cybergrounds is FAR FAR better than the place where we used to hold these LANs before. The couch and the TV is the area where you can converse tho ![]() I left for 15mins to grab some food, return to find I'm locked out of the computer I was at, the commentator had left, and the place was completely dead. Locking people out of computers is their new retarded policy which we shouldn't stand for. The fact that the commentator left isn't a fault of any organizers that were present. We are usually featured on TL as an event and much better covered. This is not at all supportive of lower league players. Yeah, that's probably true, what did you expect in particular though? It's a competition first and foremost. We also usually go to dinner after the LAN, so that's another social place where you could chill ![]()

I played vs a grandmaster first, then two masters. I sort of assumed lower level players could continue to practice after being eliminated as well but I wasn't getting much of a response from the channel. Oh well, I'm starting to sound way to QQish XD. In summary, its just not what I expected.

Not to sound like a shrink but did you make an effort to meet people? Lans are generally small crammed and dark and I guess that's just the way it is for some reason ![]() The couch area (later on when the tournament is deeper) is definitely the place to meet people and observe some cool games. The field is definitely pretty solid as a whole. Maybe you could bring some friends on your level to come and help diversify the field. I encourage my friends of all levels to come. Like you, I come just for the fun of it. I'm totally with you about getting booted off the computers. I mean I'd be fine with getting up if the tournament was so big we needed to rotate computers, as long as I'd be allowed to sit at another computer when it opens up. I was under the impression that our buy-ins partly pay for a day/some number of hours of use on one computer at the cyber cafe. Yet today I was booted off my PC only to sit and wait out my friends' games while there are at least three empty computers right next to me. Not having a PC all/most of the day definitely takes away from "going for a day of video game fun" aspect. If we had the PC for the day it would be much easier to meet people, practice games, etc. I'm considering not attending anymore lans for this reason alone. If I'm going out there I want to be able to play some games for fun, browse the web, follow the tournament etc. I don't have time to play enough to consider going just with the intention of competing. So I agree that if they don't change this, it wont be an "all-levels" friendly event at all. Anyway, you had some good points and I hope to see you at the next lan--

Also that guy is kind of a jerk and creepy, but who am I to judge. It really is still infinitely better than the other place.

Thanks for making that known, Sadistx. I agree. The organizers always have things... well ...organized. lol. And when I'm watching the stream, there's people sitting on that couch, eating, laughing, talking, having fun. Sorry, you had such a bad time of it, Salvex, but don't give up.

Oh well, I'm starting to sound way to QQish XD. In summary, its just not what I expected. I think it's kind of because most of us know each other already. I meet at least 3-4 new people every LAN. Just get up and bother people during the LAN, haha. Despite everyone looking like they're in the zone, I have yet to meet someone who is like "yo dude gtfo" when you ask em about this or that in between matches. I'm sorry the event wasn't up to your expectations, however as Sadistx said, the couch + casting area is the place to meet new people afterh the tournament. However we had some scheduling issues in this particular tournament which resulted in the casters leaving and that kind of lowered that. Thanks Redmage for setting up back there. I personally had to leave as I am leaving for a 6 hour drive in 30 minutes to get there by 7am. Sorry! :p To address some other things, yes the LAN center is getting a little more strict on their PC policies. I hate having to bug people to get off their PCs when the LAN is over, because I disagree that we should have to pay "extra" when they already take half hte buy in. 20 dollars is a LOT to pay for a LAN. If we could do a 10 dollar or a 5 dollar buy in, I think a lot of lower league and further away players would come to play in the LANs. I think our 20 dollar buy in is why most of the turn out is people who have a legit chance at making it to 1-4th place. However the LAN center is a business and we can't justify a no-pay situation (like they'd let us anyways) and if we lower the prize pool we're cutting the pool in half. Plus if they are only going to let us play for only tournament time, we'd have to get like...a 15 dollar buy in or something, which is even more dumb haha. I disagree that we should have to pay extra but it's on the LAN center to decide that, and if you've been to the last 3 to 4 LANs you can tell they are tightening the grip on us more and more. Sorry to be dramatic but it's what's happening. Rob and I might have a plan to remedy this. (DC Homestory sup) Also after the LANs, and every Saturday night, we do a Korean BBQ dinner, 10 bucks for an endless amount of meat. THAT is the place to meet people, because as stated...the LAN is more of our competition half of social gatherings, and we have fun and chat about whatever at the dinners every weekend. Get yourself to the DC Weekly dinner thread and meet with us! There's about 8-10 "regulars" and the occasional new guy that comes to hang out with us but I think once you come to a dinner or two you'll start to see beyond the fact that it's not a good event for lower level players, and more that it's just to play with your friends in a tournament atmosphere. Anyways, I saw Rob lost 9000 games to Avilo, that must have taken forever. Thanks again to everyone who came out, and thanks to all the players that put up with me being the "are you done on the PC" nazi that I hate being. <3

It was because we weren't an event, and the stream wasn't attracting anything as it was. Also I am the manager of Tits Gaming, Arkansassy, we'll take care of Avilo until he finds a new team. He did tell you he joined, right? Anyways, our usual event listers couldn't be reached for legit RL reasons, and Zlasher couldn't/wouldn't do it, so we didn't get tagged on the Calendar. I kind of disagree with Sadistx, Rob and I should have been less relaxed about getting it up there...we figured we could wait a bit until the groups started to steady out and Ipp would have enough games to cast. By the time we got to asking other mods outside our usual ones, we had already lost the cast, haha. Anyways, it's not a huge deal. Yeah having no stream/cast in the back sucks, but it was still a great and fun event either way. ![]()
