You mean, the thread that started off with you sending me a big PM, me not getting a chance to respond to it within 24 hours, then you calling me lazy?
Which was ironic because the whole issue had to do with maturity levels.
But yeah, I remember that... I had sent a reply to the initial concern when I had a few moments. I know you had sent something back that was basically more of the same, and to be completely honest with you, I was just really busy with work and didn't have the chance to give you a proper reply. I had meant to reply when I had a chance, but after a week or so I just forgot. I remembered a little while later (maybe a couple weeks or so), but hadn't seen you reply again so I thought it was a dead issue (because again, it was just more of the same that I had already addressed). If you really want to re-hash any of it, let me know...

Was banned once for a week. The stupid thing about it was that I wanted to edit my post a few minutes after I posted it but Rage already ninjabanned me, he was faster than Usain Bolt. But it was deserved, so I can't complain.

You don't have to deal with that annoying wait and huge scroll bar while posts are loading. This makes it a lot easier and more convenient to go through someone's history since you usually only need to see the last 20/50 posts of a user to get an idea anyways.

Being perm banned on TL is like expelled from school ... I've been banned once for trolling a strategy thread with non sense, and I thought I was right too... Something like mutas are useless in ZvP BW... Looking back from posts a while ago... Just lol.

I think it was my first post in the strategy forum http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=56212¤tpage=2#29 Hopefully Chill wasn't a mod back then lol so i didn't even get a warning. That was quite funny ( Hawk yelling at me haha ). Nowadays i could have been be nuked or at least banned from the strategy forum :p I also like how Neo Sauron and FE builds have made all this discussion obsolete.
Otherwise i think i have only got two warnings ( for a "first" post and a one liner "play protoss" ) Got banned once for one week by Kennigit because i wrote "Fuck you Blizzard" in a Kespa vs Gretech/Blizzard. I think it was quite harsh but i guess i should bitch less.
I try to stay away from General because it is terrible and there are too many people bitching/trolling/posting non sense and since i'm not too fluent in English it is quite hard to make myself understood, or simply to make a good, long and argumented post. I think that arguing on General is dumb so i try to avoid threads related to religion / china / etc... because this is always the same thing. I try to post positive stuff even if it is mostly one liners ( been a bit bitching about terrans though )

It depends on the person I think - I was warned once (for posting /thread) and I learned my lesson. Though someone who doesn't care about his online personality probably would just not come back.
|
I was one-week banned for asking for a beta key in my blog when blogs were raining with beta key "contests". Spent my week playing SC2 Beta.
And got a warning for posting in a dumb thread, but I did share those opinions
Don't think the ban ou warning were unfair but I never regretted a post of mine or will not post because of the fear of being banned / warned (yes I did read the 10 commandments).
And good thread =)

Everyone in that thread replay was being an asshole I was just annoyed I got banned and no one else did. But upon rereading I was more aggressive then I remember being, but its all good.

The older (5k posts and higher) people in the forum have a larger leeway in getting back on the forum after a perma-ban; not because they'll shape up, but because they've contributed something to the community. Less posts and less constructive content overall mean you're less valued and if you do step out of line by acting stupidly, you're more liable to be whacked. So going back to my original query; more people are posting image macros and not getting warned. It's a disturbing trend, especially if it becomes the meme-generating type of pic, and people are getting away with it. more often
No no, no anti-authoritarian streak, although I do sometimes like to be an instigator, (in rl) but i restrain myself here. Its just fun to stir the pot sometimes.
And yes i do agree that some form of order is required, and yes i also concur that the mods are much needed and appreciated.
I was just pointing out the sometimes 'holier-than-thou' attitude that some of us have, and that blatant cronyism/minion-esque behaviour when a mod posts, and an obvious lickspittle posts ''lol'' after quoting the mod's comment.
Now this is perfectly understandable when it is funny, but when its not, i really dont see the need.
Thank you for explaining the source of the ressurections.

I agree, I've had my fair share of that "oh a modz~! praise be to it!" having worked as a mod for a company-run forum; and the other way around, when people are being unruly and ill-disciplined, how they grumble about you killing all their fun and excitement. It's tempting to wield the hammer in that case when they're being less-than-subtle jackasses behind your back, but you have to resist it if they're not being blatant about it; it's difficult drawing the line between sarcasm and full-blown anti-mod grumbling at times. It's difficult not having the manpower to go "Clean up the Augean Stables" in one fell swoop.
And yes, I do like to throw out my share of baiting at times. People are getting too thin-skinned dealing with others.

I don't remember exactly. But I got banned a couple of times for one post where I used too many foul words or for QQing too much. What upset me most about that was that I was basically banned when I had one big post where I QQed a lot, but most of my other posts are usually pretty large and I try to contribute a lot and actually bring arguments tot he table instead of just baseless QQing, whereas others just have no idea how discussion works and just hammer you down with their silly points and logical fallacies and endless QQing, yet none of them get banned.
my first ban I got was for "ruining a good thread". I was banned by kennigit, and I remember being really really upset about it. Like genuinely sad / angry that I was banned for my post. I don't exactly remember the post in question, but it was a thread about something and I posted something in a calm and mannered fashion which was actually on topic as far as I remember, but Ken disagreed with me and banned me for two weeks. Yes, not one, but two weeks. And that was my first ban I ever got. I was like really close to never ever visiting this forum again. That really upset me a lot. Not in a "omg these forum moderators are idiots" way, but more in a way that made me supersad and disappointed.
in short, sometimes I feel like being honest and not idiotic/hypocritical like a lot of people here can really bite you in the ass. you can get banned for simply stating your honest opinion, even if you don't flame others etc. in the progress and try to argue reasonably.
I also got banned for literally calling someone a "fucking idiot" or something like that, and I totally understand that since I asked for the ban in the post (but that guy deserved it, and I think I never did it again after that). But then sometimes I really don't understand why I was banned instead of warned. Or when I was banned not for one or two days, no, like a week or two. That just really hurts. Like, it doesn't make you angry or something, it's just like a mod is trying to tell me: "Please get the fuck out of our forums, we don't like you, we don't want you here". Especially when you get banned for a post which intended no harm.
edit: oops I forgot a part of my post.
So in terms of "getting set straight". Well, I think more active about my choice of words right now and also I have some occasions where I write some lengthy post, like at least 1000 words+, then read through it and I'm like "better not post that, some moderator might read something into my post which I didn't intend" and just delete the post and leave it at that. That's not exaggerating or something, but sometimes I really get worried that I'm going to be banned again lol. I looked through your mod notes and I honestly don't think you have much to complain about.. This post got you your first ban. It was neither calm, mannered nor on topic. Also, it was 2 days instead of 2 weeks. Not sure how that made you so upset.. maybe you thought you got banned for another post? We didn't have the red text messages back then that make it clear which post got you banned. Your 3 other bans were completely justified as well. A 2 day ban for calling someone a fucking idiot and stating yourself that it'd get you banned, a 1 week ban for calling Americans "really fucking retarded sometimes" while you had gotten 2 warnings just the day before and another 1 week ban for posting an ASCII facepalm pic (that would normally get you a 2 day ban, but you already had 2 bans and 4 warnings). Also, you tried dodging that last ban by creating a new account and we were apparently nice enough not to extend the ban on your main account! All in all, I'd say we treated you very fairly.. yes you're right. my memory was totally off on that first one. I'm probably thinking about some other ban on an older account which I stopped using when I changed my nick to heishe everywhere. still that ban was weird. even reading it now the post clearly sounds comical (since I capslocked barbar and nobody ever uses that as an insult), it must've been when I first started posting and didn't realize that it was not a smart idea to post that kind of jokey post. I guess my ban on heishe wasn't extended after I created a new account because of what I posted. Some guy was asking if it would be possible to implement a mass-observer tool or something with which one could observer tournament games etc, and I was itching to tell him that something like that already exists (waaaghtv in WC3). by the way what also made me sad when manifesto told me that I seem to be taking a monthly dump on the forums I put a lot of effort into my posts usually. maybe it wasn't justified to say it the way I did, but some people really are .... you know what I mean sometimes. people there were clearly saying: jokes about nazis and hitler and jews are hilarious and totally OK, but jokes about 9/11 are clearly not ok and absolutely not funny, the excuse being that one has happened in younger memory than the other, which makes no sense at all. when I see that kind of ignorance I just go mad for 1 minute and it results in posts like that (also with calling the guy a fucking idiot after he said that b-teamers etc. had no right to complain about their working conditions since they play videogames as a job) . But anyways, that's long over. but you're right, those bans were more or less deserved.
I do understand where you were coming from in most of the posts that got you banned, and I don't fully like the way your first 2 day ban was handled (your post was off topic but as far as I can tell, nobody else got warned/banned while there were several other people doing it on the same page).
If it means anything to you, I think you're a decent poster who definitely means well, despite your ugly mod notes.
Also, when Manifesto said that you seem to be taking a monthly dump on the forums, I think what he meant to say was that looking at your post history, you seem like a good poster who somehow randomly spazzes out and does something bannable about once a month.

I've been reading that 'i' as a slash instead and it makes much more sense with the monthly dumpings....
I couldn't find my thread. I thought I created it, but apparently not. It was something about the viability of hydras on that one three player space map with the open nat and I think I told your_killer, inc and a few other vets they're all cunts or something after I was totally wrong, ahha. It was under my old ))(())(( name. If any mod cares to search to show what a jackass I was, that would be funny!
