MLG passes for today sold out in less than a minute. That is five times as fast as it was for Raleigh. Chances are you are one of those unlucky motherfuckers who was not fast enough to get a player pass like me QQ, but atleast you can do something much more fun than playing in a +$10K Starcraft 2 tournament. Alright so I guess I'm opening this thread because I plan on going but I would like to know who else will be going. It think it would also be good for others as well so we can help each other out if you are willing for example provide housing or share a hotel room and split the cost. We could also do one of those meetups everyone always talk about and make fun of a couple of halo kids (j/k btw. Halo > SC). If you live around the area or know it well, you could be the official TL community tour guide.

Your best bet of getting there if you do not have a car and are traveling by plane or taking the metro is to stop at DCA (Reagan) and taking a shuttle to Gaylord.
The Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center is NOT the only place to stay around that area. There is the Hampton Inn, Residence Inn and aloft Washington National Harbor that are within walking distance of the convention center. About the rates though, you'll have to find out yourself but from the looks of it they seem a bit cheaper than Gaylord atleast according to tripadvisor

I've stayed down there for another convention at the hotel across the street. Its a little bit cheaper not much but it has a full kitchen and it is a nice room. Parking is like 11$/night which is really good. Also the hotel is literally across the street from the Gaylord.
For dinner, stop by elevation burger. You can make a 10 patty burger. Their fries are awesome and I heard their shakes are from what I heard okay. I've heard that they are building a CVS down there so I'm not sure if its there.

I got a ticket, and I live on the southern side of the bridges in Arlington. I spoke with the wife (big gamer her self) and im pretty sure I can have a few people stay the weekend to avoid the hotel costs. The closest metro stop for me is Pentagon or Pentagon City (both the same distance from my place)

btw if you're flying in and have a choise between DCA, IAD, and BWI, DCA (ronald reagan washington national airport) is pretty much directly across from the river from the venue, if that matters to you. IAD is about 45 minutes away or an hour in traffic, and BWI is about an hour away + 15-30 if you have traffic. DCA to national harbor shouldn't be more than like 15 minutes (plan for 30 to be safe, obviously) from the door to the airport to the door of the venue.

Um I'm not sure the locals have discussed where might be best for dinner. Typically we go to a korean buffet called Il Mee in Annandale, VA but that might not be the most convenient location seeing as we already have to negotiate to make sure that everyone is getting a ride. Long story short, we should probably look closer to the convention center for something.

Prepare for there to be a lot of people watching.. its pretty intimidating at first. Also practice with different clothing etc.. MLG Raleigh was freezing.. so if you usually play in a white tee and boxers.. maybe try preping with a hoodie?
Also you might be wearing shoes... so think about that.
Besides from what you're wearing.. think about you're hardware.. test it make sure it is flawless and will perform fine. You need to also remember you're in game settings. I know select started a game with the wrong hotkeys.. luckily he still wound up winning.

I've played in a lot of LANs in the last 4-5 years, and I think the biggest thing is just to keep your cool and play your game. I have seen so many people attempt all ins, etc, when they really have not practiced all ins before the tourney. I would try to play games with a lot of observers to practice. The added pressure of having people watch them play can get to some people.

From what I've heard about MLG Raleigh, if you use a PS2 keyboard it can fry the computer, I don't know why, I don't know if thats true, but its MLG's rules to go by so just deal with it.
And the event is from October 15-17, SC2 will be played just the first two days (15/16)

If you want to host a tournament that allows PS2, go for it, but if they have rules set out like this then, by signing up to play, you should probably get used to the fact that you'll abide by them. That or I'm sure you can try to have an orderly discussion about it with the MLG Admins maybe through PM's on TL, emailing them, talking to them through their website, or MAYBE if you're lucky, talking to them at the event, but if you talk like THAT then I doubt they'd want to listen.

IIRC, JP and/or MLG Lee went into some detail about this issue in the Raleigh rules thread. Apparently this is a rule carrying over from WoW competitions where before, they lost a number of computers due to PS2-related issues. I'm going. Right now I've got plans to stay with an old college buddy but he lives in Odenton, Maryland which would be pretty much a gigantic hassle to get to the venue and back each day. I'd be willing to split a room on Friday night just so I don't have to go back to Odenton late Friday and wake up early on Saturday. Ryan, I'm lookin' at you.

If you find someone who's also going to the event with a car, take the metro to king street or maybe reagan airport, or you can try going to reagan airport and taking a shuttle from there to teh venue if you don't find another way.

You can either buy a spectator pass at mlg's website for 25 dollars or I believe they sell them at the door for also 25 dollars.
Boy I can't wait for this event, just bought myself a flipcam for it to take venue reviews, player interviews etc. As we get closer, I'll probably start up a thread somewhere on TL for the community to ask questions to players and if I get an interview with them I will try to ask a couple of the questions that I like :D

Edit: Oh wait, is it because this is a Halo Combine/Circuit event instead of just a circuit event like Raleigh was? I know that when they have Combine-only events, those are free to spectate, so uh....yeah...maybe

This might seem like I'm just being lazy, but I'm on exchange studies in Vermont (from Sweden), so I have no idea how to get around. I will go if:
1. Someone can help me get to the place, either by public transport or picking me up.
2. I can stay with someone or share a hotel cost. If someone lets me stay with them, I'd pay for a dinner or cook you food or something. I would also obviously pay for the gas if we're driving anywhere. If there's any other cost, don't hesitate to tell me. : )
3. There will be people I can hang out with.
I'd be in Washington 6:28 pm on Thursday and I'd be leaving Sunday 9 pm. If someone would like to check out the city with me, that'd be great.
EDIT: I am 21 and wouldn't mind going out for some drinks one or two of the days!

1) Don't EVER try to go for a "short sale". The name is very fucking misleading.
2) Get EVERYTHING inspected beforehand. If something isn't on/working at the time of inspection, fuck it and move on.

Nah, eaiser way, get to a metro stop, get to Reagan National Airport, go in there and find the "Super Shuttle" booth where you canget a ride pretty much to anywhere for like 12 bucks I think it is. One way should be anywhere from 15-18 bucks I guess it is.

the official page says that 1-way super shuttle is $18. it would be easier than bus -> rail -> bus, but definitely more expensive as well.

last MLG this is what was scheduled for saturday:
10:00 AM - Losers Round 4
11:00 AM - Winners Round 4 / Losers Round 5
12:00 PM - Losers Round 6
1:00 PM - Winners Round 5 / Losers Round 7
2:00 PM - Losers Round 8
3:00 PM - Winners Finals / Losers Round 9
4:00 PM - Losers Finals
5:30 PM - Finals
it's probably a safe assumtion to say it'll be the same for DC, since it ran really well on time (especially compared to other MLG events)

Friday is just like straight 5-10 or 5-12 playing the opening rounds up, probably will be some exciting games, a lot of meeting and introducing each other and getting autographs and what have you. Saturday is when the final matches go on for starcraft and exit interviews, podiums, winners interviews, etc. will go on.
On the other side of the venue will be a ton of ridiculously loud XBL kids though, theirs goes throughout the 3 days because WoW needs a day for their matches, which'll be Sunday.

Eisenhower Ave is the closest, on the yellow line. it's probably 5-6 miles from venue, off the top of my head. (and yeah it's in VA)

loll dude I took a cab, I thought it was 20 mins, cost me 85 bucks
even worse, when I got to the airport this morning I realized I had made a dumb mistake and booked my flight for october 13th.... they changed my reservation with extra fees of $643,45 easily the most expensive flight I've ever been in and it's only 2 hours lol

There's also a burger place about two blocks away from the hotel. They allow you to put up to 10 patties in a burger.

hm yeah maybe i will try to get there between 12 and 1 in case there's any sort of entry stuff for spectators, and just to hang around. if they have open computers though i dunno if i'll play... maybe if jp promises they won't lump randoms playing in with the replay pack =X

Edit: Also, for those who are already there and just spectating, is it COMPLETELY open, as in, you just walk in and sit down? I'd like to know if I need to be there early tomorrow morning to wait in line for a spectator pass or something. I know it's free, but I'm so paranoid I'm going to drive really far and then it be too crowded to even get in.

Hey guys, today was a lot of fun. I'm totally beat. A few things:
1) I found parking at the corner of Fleet and Potomac for $11 for the day. It's about 4 or 5 blocks from the center. I think someone had mentioned before, but I wanted to confirm it.
2) It seemed like that little amphitheater with the obnoxiously bright and poorly aimed lights is where the big things happen, but it also seems like there is extremely limited seating, with lots of folks hanging around outside. Will it be tough to get a seat for the finals?
3) Holy jeez Blizzard, do we need lan. Especially during the DT rush of the last match, I thought the lag would actually make someone lose.

yeah i parked there too, found a primo spot that was actually right by the exit so it was pretty nice. also the finals are at the normal place, not ove rat the amphitheater - that's only for halo
nice to meet everyone i met today (storrzerg, rubpar, nokarot, all the pros, etc), to everyone else, please come up and introduce yourself tomorrow! I'll once again be wearing a redskins hat and sweatshirt with a big "W&M" on it

This event is insane man
I can't feel my knees and ankles and soles of my feet but it is worth every second, it is absoultely incredible meeting some of these pros and seeing how humble they are and how friendly they are.
So far my starcraft 2 poster has a ton of signatures from people like Ret and Idra, Select, LZ, djWHEAT, etc. Going to finish it off tomorrow, I'm super super excited to see everyone again.
Honestly I couldn't hvae imagined this event to be so great even as bad as the seating issue is and as tired as I am I owuld do it again 100x over. I relaly hope MLG considers coming back to DC because the SC2 section was ROCKING THE HOUSE. It was amazing how many spectators we had and the quality of some of these matchups.

I will be in a black shirt with white stripes and behind one of the cameras. I will come by and say hello to the spectators during breaks. If you guys want better seating at the next event (we all do) then bring it up at mlgpro.com. More voices =more attention and more solutions.
