I'm moving to another country but wanted to know what was the best way to package and transport monitors? It'll be insured for 2,000 euros but I just wanted to be sure I get the right boxes.

They are two 23-inch Asus monitors like these: http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/23Zoll--58-42cm--Asus-PB-Serie-PB238Q-schwarz-1920x1080-1xHDMI-1-3-1xVGA-_808073.html

I had two monitors facing each other (with a piece of cardboard between the screens) in a hard suitcase with some clothes insulating all sides when I moved from US to EU. If you don't have a hard suitcase I'd recommend getting a box that they would both fit in.

As long as you have something keeping pressure off the screens (this is where having two monitors facing each other is nice) and basic protection against being jostled around (some clothes and a semi hard/rigid encasing) you should be fine.

(besides my own move, I've spent the last 3 summers working for a moving company that only does international moves...)

I kept my monitor box; if you still have yours, that's the obvious option (and you should take note to keep them in the future!) but if not, i'm not sure exactly what to do with them to keep them safe

I also kept the box for my air540 - when i got it, it just shipped in that box with air540 written on the side etc and packaging in it - so i literally just have a box for my monitor, a box for GPU, a box for case etc all packaged well. Do you have nothing like that to use?

Kept the PC box, but didn't have the foresight to keep the monitor boxes.
For the PC, I'm just gonna repackage it in the box with all its filling/protection.

For the monitors, I wasn't sure if to put them in the same box or separate boxes. I have plenty of clothes to insulate them.
Roger, put the monitors facing towards each other (screen to screen).

But do put a solid plate (cardboard) between them (to ensure that all pressure is on the bezel).

For the PC, if you have an aftermarket cooler I recommend removing that as it's the only part that not's crewed into the case. Remove any other "lose" components too.

Ok, I am back!

I got one large box: 67.5 by 34 by 33.5 Centimeters: monitor is 58.42cm diagonal so fitting two should be fine + a shitload of clothes and I bought bubble wrap just in case.

They didn't have anything smaller, the other one was only 52 by x by x, so I don't think it would have fit

there's a small lever that you also need to press between the graphics card and the motherboard to remove the motherboard as well

Got it!

If the box I got is big enough to hold both monitors, do I put them together or separate them and isolate them both with bubble wrap + clothes?

face to face with a solid piece of cardboard (or something similar) between them (so all pressure is on the bezel - nothing pressing the screen)

if you don't have anything to protect the screens just put them face to face and use packing tape (nothing that stretches) to hold them in place.

How about face to face with bubble wrap wrapping them individually (bubbles touches the screen)

should be fine as long as the pressure is relatively even and the bezel still takes most of it.

Just remember that the weak point is the screen. The bezel and casing is a) relatively strong and b) aesthetic. As long as you keep the screen safe you'll have two working monitors.

Basically, it's a box full of clothes and then within that tight package are bubble-wrapped monitors facing towards each other.

Hello,

PC arrived and died.

Monitors especially didn't make it. One of them had their backside punched out and simply doesn't work (screen is flawless though T_T) and the other has a few scratches even though it is double-wrapped in fucking bubble.

As for the PC, they delievered it upside down and even though I used original packaging, screws got loose and jumbled around, destroying my GPU (it isn't detected so far).

Why was the GPU still in the case when Cyro told you to remove it?

I shipped mine over and left my GPU in like a retard, although it didnt come loose, it only broke the PCI slot it was in (after a solid few months use after shipping lol). When i shipped it back i stripped it apart completely and abandoned the old shitty case i had, I wrapped everything in clothes and put them in my suitcase and it was all fine again.

Not sure who built your pc but for shit to come loose and destroy it something had to be awry, either your PC was used as a frisbee by the people who handled it or the person who built it fucked up.

In my previous post, I wrote that I used that lever to remove it and it completed snapped instead, so there was no way for me to remove it (I even provided an image, no one read the post).

Built my co-workers and I was near them. The screws weren't loose ever before so I don't know how they broke off at all, but two of them came off.

My PC was delivered upside down and the monitors boxes looked like rats infested it. That UPS guy who took it looked like he could not give two shits about it.

I'll provide pictures in a sec.

Oh right, pictures!

I kept the box and packaging so they can see what I did. I should have taken better pictures of the box before opening because it is waaaaaaaaay worse than that.

RIP sorry to see that man

shipping is trash. Seemed ok over here for my stuff, but recently for fragile stuff (monitor) it's just been shipped in the monitor box, quite clearly, without additional packaging on top

I thought from Berlin to Copenhagen, it'd be an easy trip: 1 hour flight, no problem for a PC WITH ITS ORIGINAL PACKAGING, HOW DO THEY FUCK THAT UP??? (or how do I fuck it up? but for insurance purposes, it's all their fault).

We insured it for full (1300 or 2k, I can't recall) so hopefully they reimburse at least 1k QQQQQ

Insurance was for 2k, they claim we didn't. My company is arguing they did so we'll see how that goes (not sure how much stake/power the company has to really get their way, but it is apparently a big company in the Nordic countries [Aller Media] - so I'm really glad they're being so forward/following through on things).

tomorrow, the shipping company is coming to see the computer and packaging.
