Gaming with a laptop

I recently got the urge to play WOW but the only computer i have at the moment is my laptop
my specs are
GeForce GT 740m
intel(R) core(TM) i5-3337U CPU @ 1.80GHZ
6GB of ram
i was wondering if this was okay to run without any internal problems happening to my laptop after time.

It won't damage your hardware unless the laptop design is defective but it probably wouldn't run well

That's more than enough to run WoW and many other games as well.

I think I only once ran wow on a computer with better specs...
sorry, misread the question. Unless there's something wrong with your computer already gaming won't damage it.

I just heard awhile back that it could overheat some of the components to the point they won't work anymore.

Only if you leave the game open 24/7 for like a year straight + bad airflow, then maybe

Even then, your laptop would shot off automatically due to a sensor detecting high temperatures. My brother had a laptop that had the worst airflow, and would just shut off like once every 30 minutes when playing any video games.

Yeah that's plenty. With an i5 she'll probably get as hot as a top model chick tho. I have similar specs on my Asus 15.5' lappy & my problem was not running the games themselves, but hardware overheating. Basically my hardware resisted 'any' heat transfer, sort of like in a DifEq equation where eigenvalues are complex when .4ohm < R < 2 ohms. That meant my HDD would constantly be nearly or totally fried. To solve this, I had to make ventilation. A number of ways work to make that happen: buy a fan from Best Buy for $20, or, make a standoff with rubber fixtures (or a traditional laptop stand from Microcenter, i hate that way but to each his own, it does work). I kept my laptop ventilated with a standoff and a lot of air movement, and I checked HDD temps constantly. It's not necessary to be that vigilant but that does help. for a real 'hardcore hardware' guy like me, i just love having cool hardware so it's like a game for me, you know?

You could probably run games like WoW, SC2, CS:GO, CS 1.6, ET, AoK, & FarCry with those specs though, at moderate gfx settings. Probably would only be able to max out games like AoK & ET though, just sayin. I have never maxed out FarCry 2 on any machine. I have maxed out SC2 but it was sketchy/choppy (low framerates like 30fps, not worth it imo). Just get so your framerates on any game are about 60fps & u're good to go.
