Unable to download game data from Blizzard

TuElite Canada2123 Posts September 09 2012 19:50 GMT #1 I re-installed Windows and got on Starcraft 2 no problem, I updated some stuff and did regular maintenance work on my computer and now I get this error message when trying to play Starcraft 2. I tried installing Starcraft 2 again and it doesn't work, I think it already sees it installed and gives me the same error message when I run the installer. I tried uninstalling my Starcraft 2 folder but it's not working and the game is not showing up in my control panel. Help would be appreciated. Thank you for your time!

EdenPLusDucky 571 Posts September 09 2012 20:00 GMT #2 Do you have any blizzard/sc2 processes running in task manager? Do the folders called blizzard entertainment and battle.net exist in the programdata folder?

TuElite Canada2123 Posts September 09 2012 20:04 GMT #3 No Blizzard/SC2 process running... And I have a Starcraft II folder where the game is supposedly "installed" that i cannot delete"... I don't even know where to go for programdata anymore, the person who re-installed Windows and worked on my PC re-installed it in French, I'm lost...

EdenPLusDucky 571 Posts September 09 2012 20:10 GMT #4 What error does it give you when you try to delete the starcraft II folder in programfiles? Are you using an administrator account? programdata is a hidden folder that you can navigate to by typing C:\ProgramData into windows explorer

TuElite Canada2123 Posts September 09 2012 20:13 GMT #5 Ok yeah, I do have both Battle.Net and Blizzard entertainment folders. It says I need permission to delete it, yet I have entered the admin password. I'll go and try from my admin account.

YouthSC United Kingdom355 Posts September 10 2012 17:55 GMT #7 Reinstall Windows 7. I understand that if you don't use it in French it is practically impossible for you to fix anything. Unless you don't mind it being in French, that is! If not, reboot in safe mode and uninstall all blizzard applications from the computer, then try again. Let us know how you get along.

I had the same error: I logged in two times on september 14th on my new computer and at night this same error appeared. Since I made no changes to my system that day, I first did not have a clue why I had this problem. Searched Google each day for the solution. Did tracert's to the SC2 and Battlenet IP's. It showed that the connection stopped at Blizzard. I have bought a legitimate copy of SC2 when it was released. But I never properly installed SC2 on my new computer. I had not played SC2 for months and I wanted to play SC2 coop with a friend, but I remembered that every time I logged in, SC2 had to update with 434 new patches. A friend told me Blizzard makes it's games portable. So we copied his game folder to my computer, I logged in with my own account and we started playing. It worked a few days until the error appeared. My "solution" was to rename every SC2 folder (in program files, program data and my documents) and then reinstall SC2. It downloaded patch 1.5.2 and updated the game in one stroke. And then I could log in again. I hope this helps others with this problem or at least gives an indication for the right solution. It seems there are not many with this problem. It was frustrating not to be able to play when I wanted.
