Info:
OS: Windows 7 SP1 x64
MOBO: ASUS P9X79
Device Full Name (as reported by Device Manager): ASUS DRW-24B1ST c SCSI CdRom Device
Driver: Microsoft Generic CD Driver 6.1.7600.16385 (win7_rtm.090713-1255)
Error Details:
1: Insertion of a file system DVD which I know contains files (I can read them on two other PCs) turns up as blank in windows explorer.
2: Attempting to write files to the drive (CD or DVD) results is a disk with a partially written section (eg. in one test I burnt 3.9GB to a 4.7GB DVD and when holding the disk up to the light only about 1/8th of the radius of the disk had been burnt) and windows explorer still thinks it is a blank disk when re-inserted.
My Attempted Fixes:
1: The "Update Driver..." automatic driver update from the Device Manager reports the latest drivers are installed no matter which options you select (including from a folder).
2: I downloaded the ASUS DRW-24B1ST Firmware 1.03 from ASUS's website and ran it to get the following error message:
No matched drive detected !
This utility is only for ASUS DRW-24B1ST drive.
Detected drives:

I assume that is because there is a version incompatibility. But I can't find a Firmware download for 1.05.
I assume this is a driver or firmware issue. But to be honest I have no idea. Just in case it is the disks (why?) I used Memorex CD's and Philips 4.7GB DVD's.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
