Hi guys,
I tried to play my Season 6 placement match and the download gets stuck on Cloud Kingdom LE. Eventually I get a popup saying error downloading content, try again later. Everything I click from that point on seems quite laggy, including seeing friend's profile info, creating a multiplayer game, etc.
Here are the facts and what I've tried so far: - Windows XP, up to date, using plain Windows firewall and AVG antivirus - the map doesn't show up as a thumbnail in my downvote section - I logged out and back in - I closed Starcraft and restarted it - I have never had dl issues from blizzard before - I tried disabling firewall - I'm in Chicago trying to play on the NA server - when I patch I occasionally have to click "allow" for the download to work, but otherwise no issues - I was playing fine the day before yesterday in Season 5
I have Googled this issue and related ones and it seems common for people playing outside their country or in remote areas, maybe having something to do with an ISP cache, but this doesn't seem to apply to me.
The first time it got stuck on 1/8 Cloud Kingdom The second time it showed 22/26 (I didn't see 1-21 download though, it just jumped straight to 22/26) Every subsequent time it's stuck on 1/8
I have interrupted it by logging out. Maybe I need to reset something. Clear a cache somewhere...
Any ideas? I can't be the only one with this problem but I can't find a thread on TL. Forgive me if it's there...

Hmmm this sounds like the time back in beta when I couldn't download blistering sands (but everything else was fine) which prevented me from laddering. If I recall correctly, I found the map files in my SC2 folder and deleted any fragments of blistering and obtained a copy of the map from a friend. Although it was so long ago I don't remember where the maps are.. pretty sure they're in app data or something.
|
I'm also having this problem and bnet forum's tech support haven't a clue.
|
OK I'm going to assume this is something I can just wait a couple of days then and will get fixed. I found a bunch more threads on bnet forums that are people complaining about this.
For the record, I also can't dl the maps manually from the "Create Game" option, and despite having a thumbnail for Korhal Compound I cannot play that map either.

Although it was so long ago I don't remember where the maps are.. pretty sure they're in app data or something. For me they're here: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Blizzard Entertainment\StarCraft II\Maps\Cache But heck if I know which one is which. They have names like: a86947aa6c01adab7dc5433b747de25b0d9ffe634e789a6f19bf9b416192fd7e.s2ma and anyway, the most recent one was modified 1/19/2012 so that's not one of the current new ones... There also a bnet cache at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Blizzard Entertainment\Battle.net\Cache but removing all those files merely makes it impossible to log into the game. Fortunately I had them backed up.

If you're trying to do it right now Bnet is just really laggy and slow. I can't access ladder or custom games atm...

My friend is also having the same problem. Not sure if its on the same map or now, but he says the download is stuck when he tries to find a 1v1 match. Is the fix just to wait it out?
|
having the same issue.......
|
i can play 2v2, but not 1v1 or anything else..... im on a mac not a pc

A battle.net forum post seems to indicate that there may be an internet cable out somewhere in Michigan, causing requests routed through there to time out. I'm in Chicago. Are the other people who posted above also in the midwest?
|
Same issue here in Indiana. Mine paused around 1/8, and after relogging, all but the original attempt and a single odd 22/26 there was no progress update on the download.
|
midwest here, same problem. couldn't ladder when i tried this morning, hopefully its fixed later >.>

Same issue. Central Michigan University

I'm experiencing the same problem from Southern Ontario.

Eastern Canada and North of the US are experiencing this problem and it is not something on the user's end. It's something that blizzard will fix with time unfortunately. edit: NOT typo

I don't see how this is on the user's end if the issue is affecting a specific sub-region like this, (unless you are referring to the ISP) but I hope this is resolved soon.

Western Canada and a saaaaaaaaad panda.

I'm also in Chicago and having this problem... So not only you. MY internet is working totally fine but can't download maps for placements.
|
West suburb of Chicago here, first tried playing around lunch time. T_T
Got 8 percent of Cloud Kingdom then it stopped.
|
What might work is if you go to C:\ProgramData\Blizzard Entertainment\Battle.net\Cache and clear the whole folder. Note this will delete ALL downloaded maps but it's definitely something to try.
|
I'm in central Illinois with same problem. Download gets stuck at 8% on Cloud. I will try the fixes in this thread once I get home and edit if anything works. Thanks for all your suggestions everyone, maybe is problem with blizzard servers in midwest?
Edit: I did this fix (http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/4062847720?page=5). I was worried about the file messing things up but it seems to have worked, I was able to download the maps and play a game on ladder. So far no problems hopefully its fixed for good.
|
My issue is that I don't even get to see the map downloading graphic--I click on "Multi Player" and then the circle just goes around forever. The only buttons that work are the Co-op and the custom game buttons. Is this related?
|
South Eastern Minnesota reporting in. Well if the cable out story is true then hopefully I can get a ladder game in before I sleep tonight.

southwestern ontario... no dice...

west philadelphia born and raised... on the playground where i spent most of my days.

Same issue, Minneapolis, MN :/ so sad

I had to restart my computer after the season switch to download the maps.

central ohio, had that problem. solved by the guy who posted his chache on the blizzard forum. however, my friend 15 minutes away didn't have any problems. He is running Mac and I am running windows 7 but i don't think this matters. we have different service providers but from the blizzard forums it appears that that has no bearing on the problem.
|
having the same problem not being able to download the map...what to do?
-Windows 7 doubt this has relevance

OK here is how I solved this problem, I reckon that the issue is here in MidWest, I am in Chicago and could not download the stuf, my friend if Florida was just fine. So I used my phone's hot spot to connect the pc to internet and was able to download it just fine, then I disconnected and reentered from my regular internet connection and it works.
My cell phone uses wireless internet and that is not affected by the outage that is happening now.
good luck and long live the swarm!

lucky you. I can't even play 2v2.

I ended up downloading this dude's cache and it worked. http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/4062847720?page=5
Still that's pretty ridiculous, that Blizzard tech support was completely ineffectual and the three solutions involve 1. downloading some random guys cache 2. installing third party software like hotspot shield or 3. connecting through your CELL PHONE
Sigh.
|
This is some srs shit.. wtf. I go to ladder and I'm stalk on Cloud Kingdom... can't even create a custom/join a custom version of Cloud Kingdom LE to download it. /sigh blizzard
|
Having the same issue in Western NY. I tried being sneaky and downvoting the new maps but it still makes you download them...so I can't even ladder at all. I'm hearing that some bnet things are down/laggy so hopefully Blizzard gets this fixed soon!
|
Same issue southern Ontario. The system is SHOT!

On the Blizz forums, they just posted a set of links to check. Of that list, 3 hang with a gateway timeout. This is probably the cause of the inability to download problem. I'm curious for an explanation of those cache files, although I don't expect we'll ever get one.
|
I'm also from Western Michigan area, and experiencing this same issue! It gets hung up on 1/8 downloading. Just sits, and sits and sits.. Doesn't do anything and Elapsed time just increases. Still unable to play at this time

I had the same problem all day yesterday. After much time spent browsing the battle.net forums I found a solution. Go to hospotshield.com and download the free program. Run it, then run SC2. Everything should download and work fine afterwards, and you can just remove the program afterwards, (I did). Alternatively you could have a friend that ISN'T having this problem back up their SC2 multiplayer cache and send it to you, or download a player named zeroworm's cache that he posted on mediafire to help everyone out, (the link is below).
Here's a link to the posts of the battle.net forums that I found the information in. =D
http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/4062878005?page=1#7 (zeroworm's tremendously helpful post)

+1, I've been having this problem and decided to try fixing it with the MediaFire link of that guy's cache. Maps downloaded, got to play, but I've been going 100% winrate against players a league up and after my last game, where the promotion message would normally pop up, I got two consecutive error messages: "Error downloading content" and then "CLIENT SIDE CACHE READ ERROR" or something to that effect. Closed the messages, score screen loads as normal. What gives? >.>?
Edit: just use a VPN, log on and download the maps, uninstall the vpn, problems fixed.
